With respect to the brain. surrogate parameters may be very helpful. n.n.in.asive pharmaco-EEG has been.proven.to provide valid in.ormation.on.drug effects in.gen.ral. Fast dyn.mic EEG recordin. with epoch len.th of 364 ms has n.w been.achieved in.combin.tion.with Eye-Trackin. in.order to elucidate sin.le scen.s durin. cogn.tive an. emotion.l challen.es (En.ephaloVision.. The presen. in.estigation.deals with the psychophysiological characterization.of the effect of a plan.-derived preparation.marketed in.German. un.er the n.me of PASCOFLAIR® con.ain.n. 425 mg of passion.lower extract in.subjects sufferin. from examin.tion.an.iety. Forty healthy volun.eer subjects (17 men.an. 23 woman., with ages varyin. between.18 an. 40 years (26 ± 6.726 for men.an. 25 ± 5.397 for women. were in.luded in.o the study when.havin. a score higher than.60 in.the PAF (PrÜfun.san.stfragebogen.. Spectral power an.lysis of pre-drug data with respect to beta waves revealed a sign.fican. correlation.to the score of the PAF. In.reases of delta, theta an. beta waves as in.uced by 4 cogn.tive an. 4 emotion.l challen.es were atten.ated in.the presen.e of 2 tablets of PASCOFLAIR® already 45 min.tes after in.ake in.a statistically sign.fican. man.er in.comparison.to placebo. Subjects sufferin. from an.iety durin. examin.tion. often.take drugs with con.iderable side effects. As altern.tive, homeopathic preparation. virtually lack side effects in.gen.ral. However, clin.cal efficacy has to be demon.trated. This experimen.al series was in.tiated to provide eviden.e, that Calmvalera Hevert tablets, marketed for treatmen. of n.rvous restlessn.ss an. better copin. with stress, have an.in.luen.e on.brain.electric activity. In.order to test this, a n.w clin.cal design.was used: “En.ephaloVision.. It con.ists of the combin.tion.of quan.itative EEG recordin. with time epochs of 364 ms (n.urocode-Trackin.) with con.en.ion.l Eye-Trackin.. Seven.een.chan.els of EEG an. on. chan.el EOG were recorded. After frequen.y an.lysis (FFT) curren. source den.ity was calculated. Recordin. was performed in.the presen.e of a video clip, which con.ain.d several differen. cogn.tive an. emotion.l challen.es in.series. Twen.y-four male an. female subjects havin. a score >60 in.an.an.iety question.aire (Prüfun.san.stfragebogen.PAF-S) were recruited to participate. A correlation.between.the Hamilton.an.iety score an. spectral alpha1 power durin. the recordin. con.ition.“eyes open. before drug in.ake was detected. Spectral power was averaged in.ludin. Cz, F3 an. Mild cogn.tive impairmen. (MCI) can.be regarded as a n.n.demen.ed tran.ition.l stage durin. the developmen. of Alzheimer’s disease. Early recogn.tion.of this stage might in.rease the chan.e of preven.ion.by early treatmen.. Within.a pilot study, two plan.-derived preparation. an. mixtures thereof were tested successfully in.subjects sufferin. from MCI. A combin.tion.of Sideritis scardica an. Bacopa mon.ieri extract (memoLoges®) was chosen.n.w for a repetitive dosin. durin. 4 weeks. Thirty-two subjects aged 50 to 80 years an. sufferin. from MCI (havin. a DemTect question.aire score between.8 an. 13) were recruited for in.ake of 2 capsules of the preparation.per day. The plan. has been.used as a tea an. as a masticatory for millen.ia by in.igen.us San.hun.er-gatherers an. n.ma pastoralists for en.uran.e an. well-bein.. It has been.reported that the plan. “gives stren.th to their limbs, an. takes away pain. an. makes their memory stron.”. The curren. in.estigation.aimed at the psychophysiological characterization.of 25.0 an. 50.0 mg of a special extract marketed as Zembrin.sup>® in.comparison.to placebo usin. a n.w methodology called “En.ephaloVision.. This combin.tion.of EEG n.urocode-Trackin. an. Eye-Trackin. allows for con.omitan. an.lysis of time epochs of on.y 364 ms duration. Zembrin. is a botan.cal fun.tion.l food an. dietary supplemen. in.redien. sold in.the USA, an. Can.da for en.an.in. mood, decreasin. an.iety an. stress an. improvin. cogn.tive fun.tion.un.er stress. It is a proprietary extract of a cultivated selection.of Sceletium tortuosum. The presen. in.estigation.aimed at the measuremen. of the effect of 25 or 50 mg of Zembrin. in.comparison.to placebo after daily repetitive in.ake for 6 weeks. Sixty healthy male (n.= 32) an. female (n.= 28) right-han.ed subjects between.50 an. 80 years old (59.7 ± 5.43 an. 56.7 ± 5.88 years, respectively) were recruited. The EEG was recorded bipolarly from 17 surface electrodes (CATEEM?) before an. 1 h after in.ake. Six cogn.tive tests were performed: d2-test, memory test, calculation.performan.e test, reaction.time test, n.mber iden.ifyin. test an. n.mber con.ection.test. Three question.aires were in.luded: Profile of Mood States, Hamilton.An.iety Ratin. Scale an. a sleep question.aire. Quan.itative EEG revealed in.reases of delta activity durin. performan.e of the d2-test, the n.mber iden.ification.an. n.mber con.ection.test in.the fron.o-temporal brain.region. Higher theta activity was seen.durin. relaxation.an. performan.e of the d2-test after in.ake of 50 mg of Zembrin.. Statistically con.picuous in.reases of alpha1 spectral power were seen.in.the relaxed state. With respect to alpha2 spectral power larger in.reases were observed in.the cen.ro- occipital region. Discrimin.n. an.lysis revealed a projection.of Zembrin. data in.o the vicin.ty of the calmin. preparation.Calmvalera tablets an. a Gin.go-Gin.en. mixture. Statistically sign.fican. improvemen. durin. performan.e of the arithmetic calculation.test an. n.mber con.ection.test was documen.ed. The HAM-A an.iety score revealed a statistically sign.fican. decrease (p = 0.03) after six weeks.
