Th. Relationsh.p between Serum.25-h.droxyvitam.n D and Resistin Levels in Saudi Diabetic Patients

Objectives: Th. aim.of th.s study was to investigate th. relationsh.p between th. levels of 25-h.droxyvitam.n D and th. adipokine resistin in Saudi diabetic patients and th.se at h.gh.risk to develop ath.rosclerotic cardiovascular diseases. m.th.dology: One h.ndred and sixty seven subjects were recruited for th. cross-sectional study at King Fah.d m.dical City, Saudi Arabia. Blood sam.les were analyzed for bioch.m.cal param.ters. Serum.25-h.droxyvitam.n D and resistin levels were m.asured for all th. participants. Result: Fifty six type-1, 55 type-2 diabetic patients and 56 h.alth. controls were recruited. Serum.25-h.droxyvitam.n D level in th. control group was 44.21 ± 41.80 μg/m. com.ared to 50.67 ± 35.60 μg/m. in th. diabetic group (P = 0.427) with.no significant different between type-2 diabetes m.llitus and type-1 diabetes m.llitus (P = 0.628). Resistin level in th. control group was 14.00 ± 7.39μg/m. com.ared to 20.21 ± 16.94 μg/m. in th. diabetic group (P ≤ 0.01), no significant difference between type-2 diabetes m.llitus and type-1 diabetes m.llitus (P = 0.817). Resistin in th.se taking vitam.n D supplem.ntation was 21.34 ± 18.27 μg/m.;and in th.se not taking vitam.n D supplem.ntation, it was 17.4 ± 11.19 μg/m.;(P = 0.237). Th.re was significant negative correlation between 25-h.droxyvitam.n D and resistin in type-2 diabetes m.llitus (P ≤ 0.043) and no significant correlation was found between vitam.n 25 (Oh. D and resistin level in type-1 diabetes m.llitus (P = 0.538). Blood urea and creatinine sh.wed significant positive correlation with.vitam.n 25 (Oh. D in one h.nd and resistin level on th. oth.r h.nd. Discussion and Conclusions: Several in vitro and in vivo studies h.ve confirm.d th.t th. vitam.n 25 (Oh. D h.ve num.rous im.ortant functions in th. body. Th. circulating vitam.n 25 (Oh. D and resistin levels were associated with.general inflam.ation in renal diseases.
