Enhancement of motor functional recovery in thoracic spinal cord injury: voluntary wheel running versus forced treadmill exercise

Spinal cord injury necessitates effective rehabilitation strategies, with exercise therapies showing promise in promoting recovery. This study investigated the impact of rehabilitation exercise on functional recovery and morphological changes following thoracic contusive spinal cord injury. After a 7-day recovery period after spinal cord injury, mice were assigned to either a trained group(10 weeks of voluntary running wheel or forced treadmill exercise) or an untrained group. Bi-weekly assessments revealed that the exercise-trained group, particularly the voluntary wheel exercise subgroup, displayed significantly improved locomotor recovery, more plasticity of dopaminergic and serotonin modulation compared with the untrained group. Additionally, exercise interventions led to gait pattern restoration and enhanced transcranial magnetic motor-evoked potentials. Despite consistent injury areas across groups, exercise training promoted terminal innervation of descending axons. In summary, voluntary wheel exercise shows promise for enhancing outcomes after thoracic contusive spinal cord injury, emphasizing the role of exercise modality in promoting recovery and morphological changes in spinal cord injuries. Our findings will influence future strategies for rehabilitation exercises, restoring functional movement after spinal cord injury.

This paper provides a review of methods of assessing a fragmentation weapon’s effectiveness against a point target or an area target with keeping the focus on the necessity of using the Carleton damage function with the correct shape ***,cookie-cutter damage functions are redefined to preserve the shape factor of and to have the same lethal area as the corresponding Carleton damage ***,closed-form solutions of the effectiveness methods are obtained by using those cookie-cutter damage functions and the Carleton damage ***,the closed-form solutions are applied to calculate the probability of damaging a point target and the expected fractional damage to an area target for several attack scenarios by using cookie-cutter damage functions and the Carleton damage functions with different shape *** comparison of the calculation results shows that using cookie-cutter damage functions or the Carleton damage function with a wrong shape factor results in quite significant differences from using the original Carleton damage function with a correct shape factor when weapon’s delivery error deviations are less than or comparable to the lengths of the lethal area and the aim point is far from a *** effectiveness methods improved in this paper will be useful for mission planning utilizing the precision-guided munitions in circumstances where the collateral damage should be reduced.

Mineralogical characteristics of bentonites occurring in Ningcheng and Jianping area,China

This study is focused on the basic mineralogical and chemical characteristics of some selected samples from Jianping(JP) and Ningcheng(NC) area,*** were studied using X-ray diffraction(XRD),expandability,Greene-Kelly test,specific surface area,cation exchange capacity(CEC),differential thermal analysis(DTA),and chemical *** bulk samples consist of mainly montmorillonites along with appreciable amounts of cristobalite and with small amounts of quartz,feldspar and *** basal spacings of montmorillonites in all these examined samples show at about 1.5 nm,indicating that pre-dominant cations were *** crystallite thickness of the present sample lies from 0.449 to 0.710 nm(4.58-7.24 layers).As Greene-Kelly test,samples from Ningcheng area confirmed appreciable amount of beidellite component but samples from Jianping area did not contain anything about *** area of samples varies from 671 to 766 m2 g-1 depending on the amounts of *** CEC ranges from 70.30 to 82.75 meq 100g-1 in <2 μm size *** DTA curves are considered abnormal *** from Ningcheng area show relatively higher amount of SiO2 than those from Jianping area,possibly due to difference of parent rock *** element(Y,Nb,Ce and Zr) data are plotted on acidic to intermediate *** is apparent that no large chemical transfer would have been necessary during alteration.

We study the magneto-optical conductivity of a number of van der Waals heterostructures,namely,twisted bilayer graphene,AB–AB and AB–BA stacked twisted double bilayer graphene and monolayer graphene and AB-stacked bilayer graphene on hexagonal boron *** the magnetic field increases,the absorption spectrum exhibits a self-similar recursive pattern reflecting the fractal nature of the energy *** twisted bilayer graphene displays only weak circular dichroism,the other four structures display strong circular dichroism with monolayer graphene and AB-stacked bilayer graphene on hexagonal boron nitride being particularly pronounced owing to strong inversion symmetry breaking properties of the hexagonal boron nitride *** the left and right circularly polarized light interact with these structures differently,plane-polarized incident light undergoes a Faraday rotation and gains an ellipticity when *** size of the respective angles is on the order of a degree.

Synthesis of Cobalt Containing Block Copolymers Via Ring Opening Metathesis Polymerizastion (ROMP)

In order to realize a metal containing nano-structure, a block-copolymer containing alkynyl groups in one block was designed and synthesized by living ring opening metathesis polymerization (ROMP) technique. The newly developed bis-3-bromopyridine complex of Grubbs catalyst was employed in the series of polymerization and it yielded the desired polymers with great molecular weight control and narrow polydispersities. The characteristics of the block copolymers were investigated by gel permeation chromatography, H- and 13H- NMR spectroscopy. Complexation of the alkynyl group containing block copolymers by treatment with dicobalt octacarbonyl occurred smoothly in 5 min at room temperature. GPC analysis before and after cobalt complexation indicated a significant increase of the hydrodynamic volume. AFM images of the films before and after the complexation also showed a noticeable change in its morphology where grain sizes become smaller and more regular upon complexation.

Strong enhancement of magnetic order from bulk to stretched monolayer FeSe as Hund’s metals

Despite of the importance of magnetism in possible relation to other key properties in iron-based superconductors,its understanding is still far from complete especially for FeSe *** one hand,the origin of the absence of magnetic orders in bulk FeSe is yet to be *** the other hand,it is still not clear how close monolayer FeSe on SrTiO_(3),with the highest transition temperature among iron-based superconductors,is to a magnetic *** we investigate magnetic properties of bulk and monolayer FeSe using dynamical mean-field theory combined with density-functional *** find that suppressed magnetic order in bulk FeSe is associated with the reduction of interorbital charge fluctuations,an effect of Hund’s coupling,enhanced by a larger crystal-field ***,spatial isolation of Fe atoms in expanded monolayer FeSe leads into a strong magnetic order,which is completely destroyed by a small electron *** work provides a comprehensive understanding of the magnetic order in iron-based superconductors and other general multi-orbital correlated systems as Hund’s metals.

Universally composable one-time signature and broadcast authentication

Broadcast authentication is a vital security primitive for the management of a copious number of parties. In the universally composable framework, this paper investigates broadcast authentication using one-time signature based on the fact that one-time signature has efficient signature generation and verification suitable for low-power devices, and gives immediate authentication, which is a favorable property for time-critical messages. This paper first formulates a broadcast authentication model with the ideal functionalities such as one-time signature and broadcast authentication, and proposes a broadcast authentication scheme in the hybrid model. This paper then improves HORS, which is secure based on a strong assumption (i.e., a subset-resilient hash function) and presents the improved version as HORS+, which diffiers from HORS such that it is a secure one-time signature based on weaker assumptions, i.e. one-way functions, one-way hash functions and collisionresistant hash functions. At the same time, a protocol OWC using one-way chains is proposed to provide more registered keys for multi-message broadcast authentication. Our broadcast authentication scheme constructed by the combined use of HORS+ and OWC is universally composable secure and suitable for low-power devices.

Provably Secure Identity-based Group Key Exchange Protocol

Group key management is one of the basic building blocks in securing group communication.A number of solutions to group key exchange have been proposed,but most of them are not scalable and,in particular,require at least 0(log n) communication *** formally present a constant -round Identity-based protocol with forward secrecy for group key exchange,which is provably secure in the security model introduced by Bresson et *** protocol focuses on round efficiency and the number of communication round is only one greater than the lower bound presented by Becker and ***,the protocol provides a batch verification technique,which simultaneously verifies the validity of messages from other group participants and greatly improves computational ***,in our protocol,it is no necessary of always-online key generation center during the execution of the protocol compared to other Identity-based protocols.

Universally composable secure TNC model and EAP-TNC protocol in IF-T

This paper analyzes trusted network connect (TNC) protocols within the universally composable (UC) framework. We propose the first TNC model in the UC framework by first designing the TNC ideal functionality FTNC, the EAP ideal functionality FEAP and the EAP-TNC ideal functionality FE-PA. Then, we construct a trusted network connect protocol named TK-TNC that UC-realizes FTNC in the (FEAP, FE-PA)- hybrid model. Subsequently, we perform a security analysis on protocol D-H PN given in the TCG specification and show that this protocol cannot securely realize the EAP-TNC ideal functionality and be resistant to an attack. Finally, we propose an alternative protocol using the twin Diffie-Hellman key-exchange technique, named protocol TD-H PN, which can securely realize the EAP-TNC ideal functionality in the (FREG, FCERT)-hybrid model.

Authentication Methods for 802.11s Mesh Networks

With the rapid development of the WLAN,the 802. 11 s mesh network is ***,adaptability and scalability are the most important attributes of a mesh ***,the security in an 802.11s mesh network is not well defined or specified,and there is no standard method to authenticate a mesh point that is creating a mesh *** this paper,we propose solutions for the authentication of mesh *** the Basic Infrastructure Security Mode,we combine the 802.1X/EAP and neighbor graph to realize the fast mutual authentication between a new mesh point and every its mesh *** prove that our scheme maintains the security of the standardized EAP authentication *** the same time,the simulation result shows that the authentication latency of our scheme is much lower than that of the scheme in[2].In the Basic Decentralized Security Mode(BDSM),802.11s mesh networks are very similar to ad hoc networks,but they are different in several *** first analyze the differences between *** on this analysis, we investigate the main authentication methods used in ad hoc networks and select the pairwise key pre-distribution model and identity-based model for the WLAN mesh network.
