Bovine mastitis affects the udder health and thus causing significant economic losses. Probiotic products based on the use of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) to limit pathogens multiplication and pre-infection risks can be an interesting alternative to post infection allopathic treatment with antibiotics. Lactococcus lactis is one of the most important bacteria used in dairy technology. In this work, a total of 21 Lactococcus lactis subsp. Lactis strains, 20 from goat milk whey and one strain from cow milk were used to evaluate their antibacterial activity against four pathogenic germs responsible for mastitis: Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus uberis and Streptococcus agalactiae. The nisin-producing cow milk strain was active against St. uberis and Str. Agalactiae using the well diffusion method. for the strains isolated from goat milk whey, no antimicrobial effect was observed against these pathogens. However, a different approach based on the growth of pathogenic bacteria interacting with the Lactococcus lactis strains in a minimum medium was used to study the barrier effect of LAB. The Lactococcus lactis strains S1 and S2 from goat milk whey depleted the growth of Sa. aureus, St. uberis and E. coli during 8 h and stopped the development of St. agalactiae.

为了研究上海崇明岛不同土地利用方式对土壤有机碳以及酶活性的影响,对冬小麦地、蔬菜地、柑桔地和冬绿肥地4种土地利用方式的土壤进行了调查、样品测定和分析。结果表明,土地利用方式对有机碳和4种酶活性的影响极显著。冬小麦地总有机碳和活性有机碳质量分数均最高,分别为19.23g·kg-1和2.26mg·g-1,柑桔地土壤脲酶、碱性磷酸酶、纤维素酶和蛋白酶等4种酶活性均高于其他3种土地利用方式,表明采用秸秆还田式的冬小麦地,可以增加土壤总有机碳和活性有机碳质量分数;常年处于免耕状态的柑桔地可以使土壤酶活性增强。

Reasons for Delayed Breastfeeding Initiation among Newly Delivered Women in Two first-Category Hospitals in Yaoundé, Cameroon

Introduction: Exclusive breastfeeding is fundamental for the good health and development of the mother and the child. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), breastfeeding after childbirth should be initiated within 30 minutes. For a number of reasons, WHO recommendations on guiding principles for infants and young children feeding are often not followed. Objective: To determine the reasons for the delayed initiation of breastfeeding in newly delivered women. Means and Method: We carried out a mixed cross-sectional study over a period of six months from December 1st 2018 to May 31st 2019, at the Yaoundé Gynaeco-Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital. We included all mothers with full-term or premature babies weighing ≥ 2000 grams and those whom initiated breastfeeding more than one hour after delivery. The mother’s reasons for delaying breastfeeding initiation were recorded using a dictaphone and data were accurately extracted for analysis. Results: We interviewed 153 mothers. Their mean age was 27.9 ± 6.2 years. The main reasons for delaying breastfeeding initiation were caesarean delivery (22%), the belief in “spoiled milk” (21%), lack of knowledge about the time to initiate breastfeeding (21%), baby asleep (18%), and lack of instruction given to the mother by the health staff (2%). Objective： Plasma phospholipid transfer protein （PLTP） is a key determinant of lipoprotein metabolism, and both animal and human studies converge to indicate that PLTP promotes atherogenesis and its thromboembolic complications. Moreover, it has recently been reported that PLTP modulates inflammation and immune responses. Although earlier studies from our group demonstrated that PLTP can modify macrophage activation, the implication of PLTP in the modulation of T-cell-mediated immune responses has never been investigated and was therefore addressed in the present study. Approach and results： In the present study, we demonstrated that PLTP deficiency in mice has a profound effect on CD4＋ ThO cell polarization, with a shift towards the anti-inflammatory Th2 phenotype under both normal and pathological conditions. In a model of contact hypersensitivity, a significantly impaired response to skin sensitization with the hapten-2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene （DNfB） was observed in PLTP-deficient mice compared to wild-type （WT） mice. Interestingly, PLTP deficiency in mice exerted no effect on the counts of total white blood cells, lymphocytes, granulocytes, or monocytes in the peripheral blood. Moreover, PLTP deficiency did not modify the amounts of CD4＋ and CD8＋ T lymphocyte subsets. However, PLTP-deficiency, associated with upregulation of the Th2 phenotype, was accompanied by a significant decrease in the production of the pro-Thl cytokine interleukin 18 by accessory cells. Conclusions： for the first time, this work reports a physiological role for PLTP in the polarization of CD4＋ T cells toward the pro-inflammatory Th I phenotype.

Background: Leflunomide has shown promise in the treatment of psoriasis. Objective: To provide an in-depth analysis of the effect of leflunomide on psoriasis in patients with psoriatic arthritis (PsA). Methods: 190 patients with plaque psoriasis (at least 3% skin involvement) and active PsA were randomized to double-blind treatment with leflunomide (100 mg/day loading dose for 3 days followed by 20 mg/day orally) or placebo for 24 weeks. Results: As previously reported, leflunomide resulted in a significantly higher Psoriatic Arthritis Response Criteria response rate than placebo (58.9 vs. 29.7% ; p ficant differences in favor of leflunomide were also observed in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI 50 in 30.4% of patients vs. 18.9% for placebo; p = 0.05), target lesion response (46.4 vs. 25.3% ; p = 0.0048), combined skin and joint response (27.2 vs. 8.9% ; p fe Quality Index (improvement of 1.9 points vs. 0.2; p = 0.0173) and certain Sf-36 subdomains. Dermatological responses were observed at the earliest examination (4 weeks) and increased throughout the 24-week study. Conclusion: Once-daily oral leflunomide is an effective and convenient treatment for PsA and plaque psoriasis.

The prolonged mei-yu/baiu system with anomalous precipitation in the year 2020 has swollen many rivers and lakes,caused flash flooding,urban flooding and landslides,and consistently wreaked havoc across large swathes of China,particularly in the Yangtze River *** precipitation and flooding anomalies have already been seen in magnitude and extension so far this year,which have been exerting much higher pressure on emergency responses in flood control and mitigation than in other years,even though a rainy season with multiple ongoing serious flood events in different provinces is not that uncommon in *** of delving into the causes of the uniqueness of this year’s extreme precipitation-flooding situation,which certainly warrants in-depth exploration,in this article we provide a short view toward a more general hydrometeorological solution to this annual nationwide problem.A“glocal”(global to local)hydrometeorological solution for floods(GHS-f)is considered to be critical for better preparedness,mitigation,and management of different types of significant precipitation-caused flooding,which happen extensively almost every year in many countries such as China,India and the United *** a GHS-f model is necessary from both scientific and operational perspectives,with the strength in providing spatially consistent flood definitions and spatially distributed flood risk classification considering the heterogeneity in vulnerability and resilience across the entire *** in the development of such a GHS-f are suggested,emphasizing the user’s requirements and needs according to practical experiences with various flood response agencies.

Hydric Properties Evolution of Spirulina platensisduring Drying: Experimental Analysis and Modeling

Hydric properties evolution during drying differs from one product to another and has been the subject of various studies due to its crucial importance in modeling the drying process. The variation of these parameters in the solid matrix and in time during the drying of Spirulina platensis has not known an advanced understanding. The objective of this study was to evaluate the evolution of the water content profile, the mass flow, the concentration gradient and the diffusion coefficient during the drying of Spirulina platensis taking into account the shrinkage. Modeling and experimental analysis (at 50°C and HR = 6%) by the cutting method a cylinder 20 mm in diameter and 40 mm thick were carried. The water content profiles of two different products grown in semi-industrial farms from Burkina faso and france with initial water contents respectively of the range from 2.73 kgw/kgdb and 3.12 kgw/kgdb were determined. These profiles have been adjusted by a polynomial function. Identical water behavior is observed regardless of the origin of the samples. Water distribution is heterogeneous. Mass flow and concentration gradient are greater at the edge than inside the product. The water transport coefficient, ranging from 1.70 × 10?10 to 94 × 10?10 m2/s, is determined from a linear approach.

Urease enzyme(UE)has been reported to be a potent virulence factor for Helicobacter pylori(HP)bacteria indicated to be responsible for various gastrointestinal ***,the spread of HP,currently regarded by the World Health Organization as a class 1 carcinogen,could be better controlled by targeting *** is in this line that we have synthesized three new derivatives(2–4)of the naturally occurring olean-12-en-3-one(1),which was previously isolated from the figs of ficus vallis-choudae Delile(Moraceae).Among the synthesized compounds,3 and 4 contain an indole *** structures were unambiguously assigned by spectroscopic and spectrometric techniques(1D-NMR,2D-NMR and MS).The starting material and the synthesized compounds were screened for UE inhibition activity,and showed significant activities with IC50 values ranging from 14.5 to 24.6 lM,with compound(1)being the most potent as compared to the positive control thiourea(IC50=21.6 lM).Amongst the synthetic derivatives,compound 4 was the most potent(IC50-=17.9 lM),while the others showed activities close to that of the *** addition,molecular docking study of target compounds 2–4 was performed in an attempt to explore their binding mode for the design of more potent UE inhibitors.

While emerging data suggest nucleotide oligomerization domain receptor 1(NOD1),a cytoplasmic pattern recognition receptor,may play an important and complementary role in the immune response to bacterial infection,its role in cancer metastasis is entirely ***,we sought to determine the effects of NOD1 on ***1 expression in paired human primary colon cancer,human and murine colon cancer cells were determined using immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting(WB).Clinical significance of NOD1 was assessed using TCGA survival data.A series of in vitro and in vivo functional assays,including adhesion,migration,and metastasis,was conducted to assess the effect of NOD1.C12-iE-DAP,a highly selective NOD1 ligand derived from gram-negative bacteria,was used to activate ***130,a specific NOD1 inhibitor,was used to block C12-iE-DAP *** knockdown(KD)of NOD1 in human colon cancer cells(HT29)was constructed with shRNA lentiviral transduction and the functional assays were thus ***,the predominant signaling pathway of NOD1-activation was identified using WB and functional assays in the presence of specific kinase *** data demonstrate that NOD1 is highly expressed in human colorectal cancer(CRC)and human and murine CRC cell ***,we demonstrate that this increased NOD1 expression negatively impacts survival in patients with ***,we identify NOD1 activation by C12-iE-DAP augments CRC cell adhesion,migration and *** effects are predominantly mediated via the p38 mitogen activated protein kinase(MAPK)*** is the first study implicating NOD1 in cancer metastasis,and thus identifying this receptor as a putative therapeutic target.
