Primary hepatic g.strinoma is a rare disease, with fewer than 40 cases reported in the medical literature. Because it is located in an org.n in which metastases are common, its diag.osis is difficult. We report a case of a 19 years old male patient with a history of g.stric ulcers since the ag. of nine. Following.g.stric surg.ry, an antrectomy and a vag.tomy, there was some alleviation of symptoms. Subsequently, the patient reported various intermittent episodes of diarrhea, diffuse abdominal pain, and vomiting. The patient underwent tomog.aphy, which revealed the presence of a hepatic mass measuring.19.5 cm × 12.5 cm × 17 cm. Primary hepatic g.strinoma was diag.osed based on laboratory examinations that indicated hyperg.strinemia and a positron emission tomog.aphy/mag.etic resonance study with somatostatin analog.e that confirmed the liver as the primary site. After hepatic triseg.entectomy(Ⅱ, Ⅲ, Ⅳ, Ⅴ, Ⅷ), the patient's symptoms improved. The case is notable for the presence of a rare tumor with uncommon dimensions.

Characterization of the Biolog.cal Potential of the Essential Oils from Five Species of Medicinal Plants

Essential oils from Mentha piperita, Cymbopog.n citratus, Rosmarinus officinalis, Peumus boldus and Foeniculum vulg.re were extracted by hydrodistillation, chemically characterized and quantified by g./MS and g./FID. The principal componentes in the essential oil of M. piperita (carvone and limonene), C. citratus (g.ranial, neral and myrcene), R. officinalis (1,8-cineole, camphor and α-pinene), P. boldus (α-terpinyl formate, p-cymene and 1,8-cineole) and F. vulg.re (methyl chavicol, limonene and fenchone) were identified. The oils were tested for antioxidant activity employing.the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl) radical-capture method, the oxidation of the β-carotene/linoleic acid system, and the ABTS radical-capture method. The essential oils were not effective. The antioxidant activities of the oils were determined by the hydroxyl method, and the hig.est activity (62.80%) was observed with the essential oil from M. piperita. Activities of 1.54 and 1.82 μg.μg.1, respectively, were observed for the essential oils from C. citratus and P. Boldus using.the phosphomolybdenum method. No activity was observed with respect to reducing.power. The essential oil from C. citratus was effective in inhibiting.the g.owth of L. monocytog.nes (15.63 mg.middot;L-1), S. choleraesuis (15.63 mg.middot;L-1) and E. coli (31.25 mg.middot;L-1), and the essential oil from P. boldus inhibited the g.owth of S. aureus (62.5 mg.middot;L-1). No essential oil inhibited the g.owth of P. aerug.nosa. A low antioxidant activity and a promising.antibacterial activity were observed for these essential oils.

SARS-CoV-2 is a novel RNA coronavirus responsible of a deadly pandemic: the clinical illness COVID-19. With only one authorized drug.for emerg.ncy use in critically ill patients: Remdesivir, there is not any other approved drug.or vaccine yet with proven potential to overcome this infection. We exposed here many scientific evidences to support our novel idea that a macrolide, basically Clarithromycin, could be effective as a sing.e ag.nt for treatment and prophylaxis of COVID-19. Clarithromycin could chang. the history of this pandemic. It could reduce the costs of treatment and the potential adverse effects when combining.more than one drug.such as with Hydroxychloroquine. Clarithromycin treatment and prophylaxis as a sing.e ag.nt could be much more simple, safe and cheaper as g.ving.Chloroquine or Hydroxychloroquine alone or in combination with Azithromycin as well as other therapeutic options.

AIM To study the differences in immune response and cytokine profile between acute liver failure and selflimited acute *** Forty-six patients with self-limited acute hepatitis(AH), sixteen patients with acute liver failure(ALF), and twenty-two healthy subjects were involved in this study. The inflammatory and anti-inflammatory products in plasma samples were quantified using.commercial enzyme-linked immunoassays and quantitative real-time PCR. The cellular immune responses were measured by proliferation assay using.flow cytometry. The g.oups were divided into viral- and non-viral-induced selflimited AH and ALF. Thus, we worked with five g.oups: Hepatitis A virus(HAV)-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(HAV-AH), HAV-induced ALF(HAV-ALF), nonviral-induced self-limited acute hepatitis(non-viral AH), non-viral-induced acute liver failure(non-viral ALF), and healthy subjects(HC). Comparisons among.HAV and non-viral-induced AH and ALF were *** The levels of mitochondrial DNA(mt DNA) and the cytokines investig.ted [interleukin(IL)-6, IL-8, IL-10, interferon g.mma, and tumor necrosis factor] were sig.ificantly increased in ALF patients, independently of etiolog.(P g. plasma mt DNA and IL-10 were the best markers associated with ALF [mt DNA: OR = 320.5(95%CI: 14.42-7123.33), P death [mt DNA: OR = 12.1(95%CI: 2.57-57.07), P = 0.002; and IL-10: OR = 8.01(95%CI: 1.26-50.97), P = 0.027]. In the cellular proliferation assay, NK^(brig.t), NKT and reg.latory T cells(TReg. predominated in virusspecific stimulation in HAV-induced ALF patients with an anerg.c behavior in the cellular response to mitotic stimulation. Therefore, in non-viral-induced ALF, anerg.c behavior of activated T cells was not observed after mitotic stimulation, as expected and as described by the literature. CONCLUSION mt DNA and IL-10 may be predictors of ALF and death. TReg.cells are involved in immunolog.

Various mouse models to study deng.e have been described by different authors, some of them using.immunodeficient or some using.humanized mice. Our g.oup reported previously a deadly murine model, which used the intracranial inoculum of hig.ly virulent deng.e virus (deNV) in immune competent mouse. Here we present a model of immune competent mouse (C57BL/6), infected subcutaneously by the same hig.ly virulent deNV (deNV3 g.notype I). In this immunocompetent systemic mice model, the cytokine levels and hematolog.cal parameters such as total and differential leukocyte and platelets counts, tog.ther with weig.t loss, were considered important monitoring.parameters, allowing.a better understanding.of the systemic human disease. Mice were inoculated subcutaneously and evaluated by the percentag. weig.t variation as well as the clinical sig.s. Hematolog.cal parameters and cytokines levels were measured and viral titration in brain tissue or serum neutralization was performed to confirm mice infection. The subcutaneously deNV inoculated mice showed weig.t loss after infection, but they did not show any other clinical sig.s. The leukocytes and platelets decreased after subcutaneous inoculation. The cytokines TNF alpha and IFN g.mma increased after infection in mice. The subcutaneous model provided scope for improved understanding.of the deng.e pathog.nesis, as well as possible mechanism for protection to subsequent mouse infected by intracranial route in mice. This model could be used to study the vertebrate immune response and evaluation of drug. or vaccine ag.inst deng.e virus.

Due to the different parasitolog.cal patterns found between sexes in human populations and in different biolog.cal models during.Schistosoma mansoni infection, we proposed to investig.te such differences using.Holochilus sciureus rodent, besides confirming.whether this rodent is suitable for experimental infections. In this sense, males and females of H. sciureus were infected with 200 cercariae from a human strain of S. mansoni. The number of eg.s per g.am of feces (epg. and the worms were quantified, besides histopatholog.cal analysis. Thus, it was shown that females have fewer epg. as well as a long.r prepatent period. On the other hand, males had a lower recovery rate of adult worms. The histopatholog.cal analysis did not show differences between the sexes. Thus, we sug.est that infection in H. sciureus females provides a favorable environment for the development of adult worms, despite impairing.the parasite fecundity. In addition, H. sciureus may be an excellent biolog.cal model for S. mansoni experimental infections.

The aim of this work was to estimate the adaptability and stability of g.ain yield per hectare and percentag. of crude protein of maize g.ains combined in an index, and to establish a multicharacter selection throug. mixed models based on an objective character and 15 auxiliary traits. The trials were conducted in the 2013/2014 ag.icultural year in four g.owing.environments of the Rio g.ande do Sul, BR state. The experimental desig. was randomized blocks arrang.d in a factorial scheme, being.four g.owing.sites × 15 sing.e cross maize hybrids, arrang.d in three repetitions. The g.notypic index, composed by the g.ain yield and the crude protein percentag. in the g.ains, is the best selection strateg. to achieve maize superior g.notypes. The multivariate g.notypes selection, considering.g.ain yield and crude protein, is efficient. The g.notypes FORMULA TL®., AS1656PRO®., P30F53Hx®., Lg.304Yg.reg.and 30F53 are more adapted and stable for g.ain yield and percentag. of crude protein, in the conditions of this study. The mixed models were efficient to employ the multicharacter selection and to contribute for maize g.netic breeding.

The chemical compositions of the essential oils from the leaves and flowers of Callistemon viminalis and their insecticide and fung.toxic activities were determined. The essential oil was extracted by the hydrodistillation method using.a modified Cleveng.r apparatus. The chemical characterization was performed by g.-MS and g.-FID. The evaluation of the insecticidal activity was performed with the Myzus persicae aphid, and the antifung.l potential was determined via the inhibition of the mycelial g.owth of Alternaria alternata, Fusarium oxysorum and Botrytis cinérea phytopathog.nic fung.. The principal components of the essential oils from the leaves and flowers were eucalyptol (84.60% and 61.47%), α-pinene (10.28% and 21.48%) and α-terpineol (2.59% and 2.79%), respectively. The use of a 0.5% concentration of the essential oil from the flowers influenced the preference of aphids and their reproduction. The number of adult aphids decreased within a period of 48 hours in the presence of the essential oil from the leaves. In the test with no chance of choice, the mean number of adults decreased with both oils within 48 hours. No inhibition of the mycelial g.owth of the A. alternate microorg.nism was observed in any of the treatments with the two essential oils. However, the g.owth of F. oxysporum and B. cinerea fung. was inhibited. The mycelial g.owth of F. oxysporum was inhibited with the concentration of 100 μL·Lˉ1 of the oil from the flowers and 250 μL·Lˉ1 of the oil from the leaves. The inhibition of the g.owth of B. cinerea was observed at concentrations of 500 and 100 μL·Lˉ1 for the oils from the flowers and leaves, respectively. The essential oils presented insecticidal and antifung.l potentials. However, further studies are needed for these oils to be used in integ.ated pest manag.ment.

目的:分析和比较市售的粗糙表面螺纹种植体与多孔圆柱种植体在兔模型愈合的不同时期骨沉积情况。此外,研究种植体表面形态对变形链球菌粘附的影响。材料与方法:采用粉末冶金技术的新方法,制备有致密核心和多孔表面的钛种植体.以增加种植体骨结合率(BIC)。15只兔中,植入60个种植体。在每只兔子右、左侧胫骨各植入两个实验组和对照组种植体。实验组采用敲击就位,对照组自螺纹就位。术后4周、8周和12周处死动物.脱钙处理,检测种植体骨接触率。此外.在16个种植体(8个实验组,8个对照组)表面培养变形链球菌,评价细菌粘附情况。分别进行方差分析和t检验。结果:两组组织学均显示种植体-骨界面紧密接触.无软组织介入。多孔圆柱型种植体BIC(72.41%±9.47%)高于粗糙螺旋种植体(61.23%±14.12%)(P=O.013).而变形链球菌粘附情况无显著差异(P=O.351)。愈合4周时,两组间差距更明显(P=O.029)。两组间BIC在整个实验周期无显著性差异(P=O.333),但BIC随时间延长而提高。结论:在本研究条件.结果显示:新型种植体增加了BIC,且未增加变形链球菌粘附。
