Background : Osteoporosis can make bone repair difficult. Low-level laser therapy( LLLT) has been shown to be a promising tool for bone neoformation. This study aimed to analyze the effect of LLLT on calvaria bone defects of ovariectomized rats using stereology. Methods : Fifty-four Wistar rats were subjected to bilateral ovariectomy, and bone defects were created in calvaria after 150 days. The animals were divided into nine groups(n = ?6 per group), and 24 hours after the bone defects were created they received three, six or 12 sessions of LLLT at 0, 20 or 30 j/cm 2, using a 780-nm low-intensity GaAlAs laser. Prevention of Femoral Head Deformity after Ischemic Necrosis Using Ibandronate Acid and Growth Factor in Immature Pigs

Background: Femoral head deformity is the most severe sequela of ischemic necrosis in skeletally immature patients. Development of severe deformity shortens useful survival time of the joint due to the appearance of early degenerative changes. Preservation of the trabecular architecture through inhibition of osteoclastic bone resorption may minimize the development of the deformity in an animal model of ischemic necrosis of the femoral head. Aims: To determine if a highly potent antiabsorptive agent, ibandronate, would inhibit bone resorption during necrotic femoral head repair to avoid subsequent flattening and deformity, to determine if the use of platelet-rich plasma stimulates bone repair and neovascularization of the damaged femoral head, and to evaluate if the combination of both therapies can preserve the femoral head while stimulating new bone formation in an animal model of ischemic necrosis. Methods: Ischemic necrosis of the femoral head was induced by surgical ligature of the circumflex vessels in 10 Landrace pigs. The animals were divided into four different groups and were administered ibandronate acid, platelet-rich plasma, or both. The contralateral, untreated femoral heads with surgical ligature of the circumflex vessels served as the control group. All animals were killed three months after surgery and the femoral head was evaluated both radiographically and histologically. The femur length was measured on radiographs and compared among the ***: Final femoral length was significantly longer in the group treated with a combination of both therapies (platelet-rich plasma-ibandronate acid) compared to the others groups, with a significant difference between groups. The effect of the application of ethanolic extract of “Haden” mango seeds to increase the antioxidant and antimicrobial capacity of fresh-cut mango flesh was evaluated. Phenolic HPLC analysis revealed that gallic acid was the major identified compound in the ethanolic extract (586.68 mg/g). Fresh-cut mango was treated for immersion within the ethanolic extract, packed and stored at 5℃ during 15 days. The content of phenolic compounds, antioxidant capacity and microbial growth of the treated mango were evaluated during the storage. Compared with the controls the treated fruit presented the highest content of the total phenolic (7.4 times), flavonoids (3.1 times), and antioxidant capacity DPPH·, TEAC and ORAC (2.9, 2.3 and 2.8 times, respectively), and showed a microbial reduction of 80% of mesophilic plate count and 97% of total molds. This study demonstrates the potential of phenolic compounds derived from mango seed as antimicrobials and antioxidants.

Extraction of phenolic compounds from bean seed coats by acetic acid was evaluated and compared to conventional extraction with 80% methanol. Total phenols, flavonoids and free radical scavenging capacity were determined by colorimetric methods. Furthermore, qualitative flavonoid characterization was performed via HPLC diode array. The acetic acid extract contained 73.4 ± 7 mg/g of sample expressed as gallic acid equivalents (GAE), and 41.3 ± 4 mg/g as catechin equivalents (CE). The acetic acid extract (at 1 mg/mL) showed over 89% efficiency to scavenge the 1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazil (DPPH) radical (EC50 = 6.13 mg extract/mg standard). Gallic acid, delphinidin-3-glycoside, petunidinglycoside, petunidin, malvidin-3-glycoside, myricetin-glycoside, quercitin-glycoside, saponin (β-g), and 3-hydroxy-5, 7-megastigmadien-9-one were identified in both extracts. Additionally, kaempferol-3-glycoside was found in the acetic acid extract. Sequential acetic acid extractions indicated that the antiradical activity was about 90% in DPPH radical scavenging within the first 8 h of extraction, when compared to a 24 h extraction. Lately the planet’s climate has been constantly changing, caused mainly by global warming which has exposed a great deal of concern to the population over the years. In order to understand the possible impacts that such changes may have on the environment and society in general, the importance of the analysis of climate and hydrological events trends and their performance in a region is justified. The objective of the present work was to perform the climatic classification and to evaluate the behavior of the Climatological Hydric Balance—CHB, from the region of Machado state of Minas Gerais—MG, taking into account a historical series of 55 years of climatic season data of the National Institute of Meteorology—INMET;to verify the occurrence of climatic changes by the temporal trends of precipitation and the average temperature, using the Mann-Kendall and Pettitt method;and the influence of these possible climate changes on CHB behavior and on the region’s climate classification. Based on the results found it verified the increase in the water deficit between the months of june to September and a reduction in the water surplus from November to February. By means of the trend analysis, there was a positive trend of increase in the average temperature of 1.6°C until the year 2100. The continuity and occurrence of these trends may have impacts on the economy, agriculture, the hydrological cycle, and consequently on the fauna, the flora and the population.

Left ventricular mechanics could identify a specific pattern of myocardial fiber damage in patients infected with COVID-19. To our knowledge there are no publications referring to the global description of ventricular mechanics in patients with COVID-19. Objective: To describe left ventricular mechanics in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we included 40 hospitalized patients with confirmed diagnostic of COVID-19, from April 11, 2020, to September 6, 2020. Demographic and laboratory data, clinical and echocardiographic characteristics were collected, as well as events during hospitalization. Left ventricular deformation was analyzed and reported. Results: Subclinical dysfunction was observed in 82.5% (left ventricular longitudinal strain [LVGLS] -17.05% and global circumferential strain [GCS] -18.6%) of the patients, likewise, the mean twist and apical rotation were preserved, and even increased as part of the compensating mechanism to maintain the ejection fraction. Conclusion: In patients hospitalized with COVID-19, despite having a normal left ventricular ejection fraction, subclinical myocardial damage was found, manifested by a decrease in Global Longitudinal Strain (GLS) and Global Circumferential Strain (GCS). This behavior is similar to that of cardiomyopathies in the early stage of the disease, and given the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the disease, its long-term consequences should be monitored and evaluated.

AIM: To analyze through meta-analyses the benefits of two types of stents in the inoperable malignant biliary ***: A systematic review of randomized clinical trials(RCT) was conducted, with the last update on March 2015, using EMBASE, CINAHL(EBSCO), MEDLINE, LILACS/CENTRAL(BVS), SCOPUS, CAPES(Brazil), and gray literature. Information of the selected studies was extracted in sight of six outcomes: primarily regarding dysfunction, complication and reintervention rates; and secondarily costs, survival, and patency time. The data about characteristics of trial participants, inclusion and exclusion criteria and types of stents were also extracted. The bias was mainly assessed through the jADAD scale. This meta-analysis was registered in the PROSPERO database by the number CRD42014015078. The analysis of the absolute risk of the outcomes was performed using the software Rev Man, by computing risk differences(RD) of dichotomous variables and mean differences(MD) of continuous variables. Data on RD and MD for each primary outcome were calculated using the MantelHaenszel test and inconsistency was qualified and reported in χ2 and the Higgins method(I2). Sensitivity analysis was performed when heterogeneity was higher than 50%, a subsequent assay was done and other findings were compiled. Student's t-test was used for the comparison of weighted arithmetic means regarding secondary ***: Initial searching identified 3660 studies; 3539 were excluded through title, repetition, and/or abstract, while 121 studies were fully assessed and were excluded mainly because they did not compare self-expanding metal stents(SEMS) and plastic stents(PS), leading to thirteen RCT selected, with 13 articles and 1133 subjects meta-analyzed. The mean age was 69.5 years old, that were affected mostly by bile duct(proximal) and pancreatic tumors(distal).
