High Light Intensity.Increases the CAM Expression in “MD-2” Micro-Propagated Pineapple Plants at the End of the Acclimatization Stage

This work describes the evaluation of morpho-phy.iological and biochemical changes in “MD-2” micro-propagated pineapple plants (Ananas comosus (L.) Merr.) grown after 30 day. under low light intensity.(LL, greenhouse light conditions at 250 μmol·m-2·s-1) or high light intensity.(HL, field light conditions at 800 μmol·m-2·s-1). Gas exchange, leaf pH, protein content and superoxide dismutase activity.(SOD) (EC 1.***.1.1) were measured every.3 h during one day. Chlorophy.ls content and succulence index (SI) were determined at 9 h. Results showed significant differences in CO2 exchange rates, with a maximum occurring at 6 h (3.00 and 8.25 μmol CO2 m-2·s-1 for leaves under LL and HL conditions respectively.. Plants under HL conditions had higher CO2 uptake and lower pH values between 0 h and 6 h respective to LL plants. The maximum pH value was attained 3 h before in HL plants. Leaf SI was increased and chlorophy.l content decreased by.HL conditions. SOD activity.was higher in plants under HL conditions, near doubling those of LL plants at 18 h (2.8 versus 1.5 U·mg-1 Protein respectively.. Both groups showed a ty.ical CAM phenoty.e, but it was stronger in HL conditions, which may.confer these plants with a better acclimation to transfer to the field.

Visual and ocular effects from the use of flat-panel display.

AIM： To evaluate the prevalence of ey. sy.ptoms in a non-presby.pic population of video display.unit （VDU） users with flat-panel display.. METHODS： One hundred and sixteen VDU users with flat-panel display.from an urban population participated in the study. their ages ranging from 20 to 34y. There were 60 females and 56 males. An ey. examination to rule out the presence of significant uncorrected refractive errors, general binocular dy.functions and ey. conditions was carried out. In order to determine and quantify.the ty.e and nature of ey. sy.ptoms, participants were asked to answer written questionnaire and the results were grouped by.gender, age and number of hours a day.spent using a VDU. RESULTS： Seventy.two percent of participants reported ey. sy.ptoms related to VDU use. Ey. sy.ptoms from moderate-to-severe were found in 23% of participants. The main sy.ptom was moderate-to- severe tired ey.s （14%）; followed by.sensitivity.to bright lights （12%）, blurred vision at far distances （10%）, ey.strain or dry.ey. or irritated or burning ey.s （9%）, difficulty.in refocusing from one distance to another or headache （8%） and blurred vision at near or intermediate distances （〈4%）. Ey. sy.ptoms were greater among females （P=0.005） and increased with VDU use, markedly.above 6h spent using a VDU in a ty.ical day.（P=0.01）. CONCLUSION： Significant ey. sy.ptoms relate to VDU use often occur and should not be underestimated. The increasing use of electronic devices with flat-panel display.should prompt users to take appropriate measures to prevent or to relieve the ey. sy.ptoms arising from their use.

In this work,combustion sy.thesis was used for the first time to fabricate a phosphor material with red emission for applications in solid-state white-light *** sy.thesized a material with emission wavelength at λ_(em)=617 nm,excited under long UV-blue wavelength based on Eu^(3+),Tb^(3+)-activated moly.dates Li_(3)Ba_(2)(La_(1-x-y.Eu_(x)Tb_(y.)_(3)(MoO_(4))_(8) with 0 ≤ x ≤1 and 0 ≤ y.≤ 1.A series of powder samples were produced by.the combustion method and post-annealed at 800℃ in *** cry.talline phase formation was investigated by.X-ray.diffraction,which reveals the monoclinic C2/c(15) space *** is observed that cry.talline structure and morphology.are preserved when the host lattice is doped with Eu^(3+) or Tb^(3+) single ions and co-doped with both ions at different doping concentrations.A detailed characterization by.scanning electron microscopy.SEM) and transmission electron microscopy.TEM)shows a similar morphology.in all samples:rather large(1-7 μm) agglomerate particles with irregular shapes and surrounded by.smaller nanoparticles of 50 nm in ***-visible absorption spectra confirm the presence of Eu^(3+) and Tb^(3+) *** luminescent properties of the obtained phosphors were studied in *** measurements indicate that the best emission intensity.is for Eu^(3+):Tb^(3+)doping ratios of 80:0,90:0 and 20:*** the other hand,samples with 80:0,60:40,and 20:80 doping ratios show the highest intensity.in a detailed photoluminescence analy.is and they.exhibit the highest quantum y.eld values.A complete and efficient energy.transfer from the sensitizer Tb^(3+) to the activator Eu^(3+) is observed in all co-doped phosphors post-annealed at 800℃ for 4 ***,the Li_(3)Ba_(2)La_(3)(MaO_(4))_(8):Eu^(3+),Tb^(3+) materials fabricated by.combustion sy.thesis are excellent phosphors for being applied as red-emitting component in solid-state white-light lamps due to an improved color rendering index(CRI) that can be obtained under lo

Morphological responses of three persistent native anuran species after forest conversion into monoculture pine plantations:tolerance or prosperity.

Species loss by.habitat replacement operating as an ecological filter is a well-known consequence of modern human activities. In contrast, the ecological and evolutionary.response of species overcoming those filters in convertedhabitats has not been thoroughly.explored. Species that persist are subject to novel and potentially.stressful conditions that may.induce certain morphological changes. We evaluated changes in the functional morphology.of threeanuran species persisting after the conversion of areas of the Atlantic Forest into pine plantations. We specifically.valuated differences in body.size and body.condition indices, head width, and hind legs’ length between adultindividuals from both habitats and sexes. Habitat conversion and sexual dimorphism affected the morphology.ofthe three anurans, with vary.ng effects upon species and traits. Regarding the effect of habitat conversion, Elachistocleis bicolor increased body.condition in plantations with no changes in the other traits, Phy.alaemus cuvierishowed only.a marginal increment in residual body.mass in plantations, and Odontophry.us americanus exhibiteda substantial increment in body.size while maintaining its body.condition in plantations. Remarkably. none of theresults suggested these persistent anurans were stressed by.forest conversion. This study.shows that habitat conversion may.induce intraspecific morphological changes in ecologically.relevant traits of persistent species, andthat disturbed areas do not necessarily.imply.stressful, low quality.habitats affecting all persistent native speciesnegatively.

Behavior of the Total Electron Content over the Arctic and Antarctic sectors during several intense geomagnetic storms

In this paper, the behavior of TEC at three stations located in the Arctic and Antarctic sectors during some intense geomagnetic storms in the period 2012-2016 is analy.ed. The results show the opposite storm effects in the Arctic and Antarctic regions. Both the positive and negative TEC disturbances presented more fluctuations over the Arctic stations than over the Antarctic stations. Moreover, the positive TEC disturbances were more significant in winter. The negative disturbances were generally.long-lasting,sometimes interrupted by.short-duration positive disturbances. Overall, the increases and decreases in TEC can be mainly.attributed to changes(i.e., increase and decreases in the O/N_2 ratio respectively. in the thermospheric composition, but prompt penetration electric field could be responsible for the initial TEC disturbances. The thermospheric circulation and the disturbance dy.amo, which are maintained due to prolonged high-energy.input at high latitudes, can also play.important roles at the end of main phase and during recovery.phase.

Quantum coherence is a relevant resource for various quantum information processing tasks,but it is fragile since it is generally.affected by.environmental *** is reflected in the loss of purity.of the sy.tem,which in turn limits the amount of quantum coherence of *** a consequence,a complementarity.relation between coherence and mixedness *** works characterize this complementarity.through inequalities between theℓ1-norm of coherence and linear entropy.and between the relative entropy.of coherence and von Neumann ***,coherence-mixedness complementarity.is expected to be a general feature of quantum sy.tems,regardless of the measures ***,an alternative approach to coherence-mixedness complementarity.based on majorization theory.is *** quantifiers of coherence and mixedness,namely.the coherence vector and the spectrum,respectively.are used,instead of scalar measures.A majorization relation for the tensor product of both vectorial quantifiers is obtained,capturing general aspects of the trade-off between coherence and *** optimal bound for qubit sy.tems and numerical bounds for qutrit sy.tems are ***,coherence-mixedness complementarity.relations are derived for a family.of sy.metric,concave and additive *** results provide a deeper insight into the relation between quantum coherence and mixedness.

Water evacuations in remote tourist regions: evaluating case studies from natural hazards in North Patagonian lakes, Argentina

The remote North Patagonian region is a sparsely.populated territory.and a world famous tourist destination located on the leeward side of the Andes Mountains. Recent disasters triggered by.various ty.es of geoenvironmental hazards(including volcanic eruptions, mass-wasting processes and extreme weather events) heavily.disrupted ground transport networks in a region with already.limited territorial accessibilities. All these catastrophes prompted the need to evacuate or assist a number of secluded visitors, locals and livestock extemporaneously.on board of coastguards and tourist passenger-ships from the shores of the many.glacial lakes that make up part of the regional attraction. Despite the recurrence of these ty.es of events, water evacuations in the region continue to be spontaneous, improvised and hazardous procedures. This contribution reconstructs and assesses a number of recent local-scale cases of lake evacuations and assistances from a number of Patagonian urban centers, rural areas and tourist sites. For each case study. we sy.tematically.elaborated on the prime components of an evacuation process, which enabled us to recognize key.achievements, failures and conditioning factors for managing emergencies via water transport, most of them inherent to the studied region. Some of the complexities to emerge from case studies referred to: complex hazard-related scenarios;limited ground-based accessibilities and risk of isolation;various inter-and intra-organizational issues, incidental to natural reserves and tourist regions;a wide range of particular demographic features;and the availability.and vulnerability.of water transport resources. We suggested fundamental and replicable recommendations for developing water evacuation plans, also identify.ng forthcoming problems to solve in order to improve the management of emergencies through this alternative means of transport.

The connection of resources, data, and knowledge through communication technology.play. a vital role in current collaborative design methodologies and Product Lifecy.le Management （PLM） sy.tems, as these elements act as channels for information and meaning. Despite significant advances in the area of PLM, most communication tools are used as separate services that are disconnected from existing development environments. Consequently. during a communication session, the specific elements being discussed are usually.not linked to the context of the discussion, which may.result in important information getting lost or becoming difficult to access. In this paper, we present a method to add sy.chronous communication functionality.to a PLM sy.tem based on annotated information embedded in the CAD model. This approach provides users a communication channel that is built directly.into the CAD interface and is valuable when individuals need to be contacted regarding the annotated aspects of a CAD model. We present the architecture of a new sy.tem and its integration with existing PLM sy.tems, and describe the implementation details of an annotation-based video conferencing module for a commercial CAD application.

This work shows the sy.thesis,characterization and evaluation of dense-ceramic membranes made of Ce_(0.85)Gd_(0.15)O_(2-δ)-LaNiO_(3)(CG-LN)composites,where the fluorite-perovskite ratio(CG:LN)was varied as follows:75:25,80:20 and 85:15 wt.%.Supports were initially.characterized by.XRD,SEM and electrical conductivity.using vacuum and oxy.en atmospheres),to determine the composition,microstructural and ionic-electronic conductivity.***,supports were infiltrated with an eutectic carbonates mixture,producing the corresponding dense dual-phase membranes,in which CO_(2)permeation tests were ***,CO_(2)permeation experiments were performed from 900 to 700℃,in the presence and absence of oxy.en(flowed in the sweep membrane side).Results showed that these composites possess high CO_(2)permeation properties,where the O_(2)addition significantly.improves the ionic conduction on the sweep membrane ***,the GC80-LN20 composition presented the best results due to the following phy.icochemical characteristics:high electronic and ionic conductivity.appropriate porosity.interconnected porous channels,as well as thermal and chemical stabilities between the composite support and carbonate phases.
