Watermelon is an L-citrulline-rich fruit that has been used as a supplement to increase L-arginine in plasma,which in turn plays a critical role in the synthesis of nitric oxide,a molecule that regulates vascular *** rind,similar to its pulp,presents a high L-citrulline content,yet a lower concentration of sugar,which would be more convenient for individuals who need to refrain from excessive sugar ingestion(i.e.,diabetics and obese individuals).Further,ingestion of watermelon rind can be a sustainable alternative to increase plasma L-arginine,given that rind of fruits is commonly ***,we evaluated the effect of ingestion of a product derived from watermelon rind and pulp(microencapsulation in spray drier)on plasma amino acids(L-citrulline,L-arginine and L-ornithine),glucose,and *** participants(28.36±5.70 years)were enrolled in a single blind,cross-over and randomized *** ingested microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp(containing 4 g of L-citrulline)plasma amino acids,glucose,and insulin were evaluated before and 30,60,90 and 120 min after *** was observed that both microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp increased L-citrulline through 120 min and microencapsulated watermelon rind significantly increased L-arginine at 30 *** addition,microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp similarly increased plasma glucose and insulin *** conclusion,these findings suggest that both microencapsulated watermelon rind and pulp are effective to increase plasma L-citrulline and microencapsulated watermelon rind effectively increases plasma *** addition,rind and pulp promote similar changes on plasma glucose and insulin.

The powders of the AA 7075-ZRO2 were mixed by mechanical milling, but it was found that the system presents a few disadvantages when processed by conventional sintering and hot extrusion, since intermetallic phases between ZrO2 particles and alloying elements were formed. equal channel angular pressing （eCAP） processing was proposed as an alternative method to consolidate the composite where there is no intermetallic formation. The analysis of the eCAP process showed that the intermediate temperature （220℃） produced a higher consolidation level than conventional sintering and hot extrusion （400 and 500℃, respectively）. This fact was supported by relative density analysis. In the case of the sintered and hot-extruded sample, the relative density exhibited a value of 0.95, while eCAP sample showed a value of 0.98. Hardness values show that microstructural refinement obtained during mechanical milling was preserved during eCAP processing even when it was carded out at 220℃.

Particulate matter(PM_(2.5))samples were collected in the vicinity of an industrial chemical pole and analysed for organic and elemental carbon(OC and eC),47 trace elements and around 150 organic *** average,OC and eC accounted for 25.2% and 11.4% of the PM_(2.5) mass,*** compounds comprised polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(PAHs),alkylated PAHs,anhydrosugars,phenolics,aromatic ketones,glycerol derivatives,aliphatic alcohols,sterols,and carboxyl groups,including aromatic,carboxylic and dicarboxylic *** factors>100 were obtained for Pb,Cd,Zn,Cu,Sn,B,Se,Bi,Sb and Mo,showing the contribution of industrial emissions and nearby major *** component analysis revealed that vehicle,industrial and biomass burning emissions accounted for 66%,11% and 9%,respectively,of the total PM_(2.5)-bound *** of the detected organic constituents are likely associated with plasticiser ingredients and thermal stabilisers used in the manufacture of PVC and other plastics in the industrial *** products of both anthropogenic(e.g.,toluene)and biogenic(e.g.,isoprene and pinenes)precursors were also *** was estimated that biomass burning accounted for 13.8%of the PM_(2.5) concentrations and that secondary OC represented 37.6% of the total *** lifetime cancer risk from inhalation exposure to PM_(2.5)-bound PAHs was found to be negligible,but it exceeded the threshold of 10−6 for metal(loi)s,mainly due to Cr and As.

Astrocytes and retrograde degeneration of nigrostriatal dopaminergic neurons in Parkinson’s disease:removing axonal debris

Sub-10nm nanogap fabrication on suspended glassy carbon nanofibers

Glassy carbon nanofibers(GCNFs)are considered promising candidates for the fabrication of nanosensors for biosensing ***,in part due to their great stability,carbon electrodes with sub-10 nm nanogaps represent an attractive platform for probing the electrical characteristics of *** fabrication of sub-10 nm nanogap electrodes in these GCNFs,which is achieved by electrically stimulating the fibers until they break,was previously found to require fibers shorter than 2µm;however,this process is generally hampered by the limitations inherent to photolithographic *** this work,to obtain nanogaps on the order of 10 nm without the need for sub-2µm GCNFs,we employed a fabrication strategy in which the fibers were gradually thinned down by continuously monitoring the changes in the electrical resistance of the fiber and adjusting the applied voltage *** further reduce the nanogap size,we studied the mechanism behind the thinning and eventual breakdown of the suspended GCNFs by controlling the environmental conditions and pressure during the *** this approach,which includes performing the experiments in a high-vacuum chamber after a series of carbon dioxide(CO 2)purging cycles,nanogaps on the order of 10nm were produced in suspended GCNFs 52µm in length,much longer than the~2µm GCNFs needed to produce such small gaps without the procedure employed in this ***,the electrodes showed no apparent change in their shape or nanogap width after being stored at room temperature for approximately 6 months.

The use of natural lignocellulosic fibers(NLFs)as a reinforcement mechanism for cementitious composites,such as mortar,has been investigated in the last ***,their application has often been restricted to technological evaluation research.A NLF with great potential the curaua,which after treatment with NaOH solution,proved to be technologically feasible for mortars reinforcement based on cement and *** objective of this research was the comparative evaluation between a traditional mortar,based on cement and lime,with 1:1:6:0.8 ratio of cement:lime:sand:water,and a modified mortar with addition of 2 wt.%treated curaua fiber in cement mass by evaluating environmental and durability *** a curing time for 28 days,environmental assessments were carried out and durability methodologies were *** tests performed were:(i)attack by chlorides and sulfate,(ii)the wetting and drying cycles,and(iii)slake durability *** results showed that the mortar with the addition of curaua fiber presented a similar behavior to the reference mixture,both in terms of environmental and durability *** modified mortar is able to be used in internal and external environments,the latter with some ***,it also contributes to the promotion of sustainable use of curaua fiber.

Chemical speciation of copper and manganese in solution of a copper-contaminated soil and young grapevine growth with amendment application
