Camouflage Patterning in Maize Leaves.Res.lts.from a Defect in Porphobilinogen Deaminas.

Maize leaves.are produced from polarized cell divis.ons.that res.lt in clonal cell lineages.arrayed along the long axis.of the leaf. We utilized this.s.ereotypical divis.on pattern to identify a collection of mutants.that form chloroplas. pigmentation s.ctors.that violate the clonal cell lineages. Here, we des.ribe the camouflage1 （cfl） mutant, which develops.nonclonal, yellow-green s.ctors.in its.leaves. We cloned the cfl gene by trans.os.n tagging and determined that it encodes.porphobilinogen deaminas. （PBGD）, an enzyme that functions.early in chlorophyll and heme bios.nthes.s. While PBGD has.been characterized biochemically, no viable mutations.in this.gene have been reported in plants. To inves.igate the in vivo function of PBGD, we characterized the cfl mutant. His.ological analys.s.revealed that cfl yellow s.ctors.dis.lay the novel phenotype of bundle s.eath cell-s.ecific death. Light-s.ift experiments.determined that cons.ant light s.ppres.ed cfl s.ctor formation, a dark/light trans.tion is.required to induce yellow s.ctors. and that s.ctors.form only during a limited time of leaf development. Biochemical experiments.determined that of 1 mutant leaves.have decreas.d PBGD activity and increas.d levels.of the enzyme s.bs.rate in both green and yellow regions. Furthermore, the cfl yellow regions.dis.layed a reduction in catalas. activity. A thres.old model is.hypothes.zed to explain the cfl variegation and incorporates.photos.nthetic cell differentiation, reactive oxygen s.ecies.s.avenging, and PBGD function.

We pres.nt the cas. of a 60 yrs.old male who, following a routine, uneventful, fluoros.opically guided L5/s. facet joint rhizolys.s.and s.cro-iliac joint (s.J) injection developed an unexpected inability to s.and or walk, a condition known as.as.as.a-abas.a. Initial concern had been that this.neurological phenomenon was.as.a res.lt of complications.of his.chronic pain intervention. Des.ite an es.entially normal neurological examination and dedicated battery of neurological imaging and s.ecial tes.ing, no caus. was.identified. Over a 7-day period of in-patient admis.ion and phys.cal rehabilitation s.mptoms.res.lved entirely. In the cours. of the workup for this.epis.de, it was.s.gges.ed that the phenomenon was.the res.lt of a s.de effect of dexamfetamine, an agent that had been pres.ribed for the patient by his.neurologis. for treatment of his.narcoleps.. On the back of this.epis.de, this.treatment was.dis.ontinued by his.neurologis. following an outpatient cons.ltation. s.bs.quent repeated s.J injections.were entirely uneventful and the patient experienced no further occurrences.of this.phenomenon.

AIM: To determine if a new brus. des.gn could im-prove the diagnos.ic yield of biliary s.ricture brus.ings. METHODs. Retros.ective chart review was.performed of all endos.opic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedures.with malignant biliary s.ricture brus.ing between January 2008 and October 2012. A s.andard wire-guided cytology brus. was.us.d prior to proto-col implementation in July 2011, after which, a new 9 French wire-guided cytology brus.(Infinity s.mpling device, Us.Endos.opy, Mentor, OH) was.us.d for all cas.s. All s.ecimens.were reviewed by blinded pa-thologis.s.who determined whether the s.mple was.os.tive or negative for malignancy. Cellular yield was.quantified by des.ribing the number of cell clus.ers.s.en. REs.LTs. Thirty-two new brus. cas.s.were compared to 46 his.orical controls. Twenty-five of 32 (78%) cas.s.in the new brus. group s.owed abnormal cellular find-ings.cons.s.ent with malignancy as.compared to 17 of 46(37%) in the his.orical control group(P = 0.0003). There was.als. a s.gnificant increas. in the average number of cell clus.ers.of all s.zes.21.1 vs.9.9 clus.ers. P = 0.0007) in the new brus. group compared to his.torical controls. CONCLUs.ON: The us. of a new brus. des.gn for brus. cytology of biliary s.rictures.s.ows.increas.d di-agnos.ic accuracy, likely due to improved cellular yield, as.evidenced by an increas. in number of cellular clus.ters.obtained.

This.paper pres.nts.the high gain, low nois. Cas.ode LNA with RF amplifier at 5.8GHz us.ng T-matching network applicable for WIMAX application. The Cas.ode LNA us.s.FHX76LP Low Nois. s.perHEMT FET and RF amplifier us. EPA018A. The LNA des.gned us.d T-matching network cons.s.ing of lump element reactive element at the input and the output terminal. The Cas.ode LNA with RF amplifier produced gain of 35.5 dB and nois. figure （NF） at 1.4dB. The input reflection （s.1） and output return los. （s.2 ） are -12.4dB and -12.3dB res.ectively. The bandwidth of the amplifier is.more than 1.2 GHz. The input s.ns.tivity is.compliant with the IEEE 802.16 s.andards.

Objective: To evaluate family his.ory of early pathological thrombos.s.as.a s. reen for genetic prothrombotic ris. factors.in children with s.roke. s.udy des.g n: A 5-year retros.ective review of s.andardized pediatric s.roke clinic evaluations.of children with arterial is.hemic s.roke (AIs. or s.novenous.thrombos.s.(s.T). A family his.ory of early pathological thrombos.s.was.defined as.s.roke, heart attack, or deep venous.thrombos.s.before 50 years.of age or multiple mis.arriages.in the parents.or grandparents.of the patient. W e evaluated the as.ociation between family his.ory and the pres.nce of the Facto r V Leiden mutation (FVL) and/or Prothrombin G20210A mutation (PTG) in thes. chi ldren. Res.lts. The s.udy included 68 children. Thirteen (19.1%) had a pos.tive family his.ory of early pathological thrombos.s. nine (13.2%)were heterozygous.for FVL, and one (1.5%) was.heterozygous.for PTG. Family his.ory was.not as.oc iated with the pres.nce of FVL (P= .36) or FVL combined with PTG (p = .40). For FVL, family his.ory had a pos.tive predictive value of 23.1%and a negative pred ictive value of 89.1%. Conclus.on: A family his.ory of early thrombos.s.is.not as.ociated with the pres.nce of FVL or PTG in children with s.roke. We recommend that all children with s.roke receive a prothrombotic workup regardles. of fami ly his.ory.
