Three-point bending tests were carried out on nineteen Reinforced Concrete(RC)beams strengthened with FRP in the form of completely *** strip width to spacing ratios,FRP type,shear span to effective depth ratios,the number of FRP layers in shear,and the effect of stirrups spacing were the parameters investigated in the experimental *** FRP contribution to strength on beams having the same strip width to spacing ratios could be affected by the shear span to effective depth ratios and stirrups *** FRP contributions to strength were less on beams with stirrups in comparison to the tested beams without *** RC beams using FRP could change the failure modes of the beams compared to the reference *** addition to the experimental study,a number of equations used to predict the FRP contribution to the shear strength of the strengthened RC beams were assessed by using a limited number of beams available in the *** effective FRP strain is predicted by using test results,and this prediction is used to calculate the FRP contribution to shear strength in ACI 440.2R(2017)*** on the statistical values of the data,the proposed equation has the lowest coefficient of variation(COV)value than the other equations.

There is an ongoing discussion on how to diagnose a hyperechogenic pancreas and what is the clinical significance of diffusely hyperechogenic pancreas. Computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging are the more appropriate methods to diagnose pancreatic hyperechogenicity when compared with transcutaneous or endoscopic ultrasound examination. More importantly, pancreatic hyperechogenicity may not be a certain indicator of pancreatic fat infiltration. Even if it is true, we do not know the clinical significances of pancreatic fat accumulation. Some suggested that excess fat in the pancreas is associated with chronic pancreatitis. However, several histological studies on human alcoholic chronic pancreatitis did not prove the presence of fatty pancreas in such cases. Thus, except for aging, it is very rare to have truly steatotic pancreas in the absence of certain human diseases.

Allogeneic stem cell transplantation in chronic myeloid leukemia patients: Single center experience

＜正＞ The contribution of endothelin - 1 （ET - 1） to FK506 - induced hypertension, vascular dysfunction and kidney malondialdehyde （MDA） levels were investigated in rats treated with FK506 for 8 or 30 days. Kidney/mesentery of rats was perfused and perfusion pressure was recorded. The response to noradrenaline （NA） only in renal vascular beds was increased by FK506 after 8 days and this increase was prevented by Bosentan. Sodium nitroprusside （SNP） - induced decreases in perfusion pressure were attenuated by FK506. in kidney and mesentery, which was not prevented by Bosentan. After 30 days, there was an increase in blood pressure, which was prevented by bosentan. but no change in the response to NA in either kidneys or mesentery. FK506 decreased the response to SNP in kidneys, but not in mesentery. FK506 increased MDA levels in the kidneys after 30 days. Bosentan did not change this increase. Results indicated that ET - 1 plays a role in the EK506 - induced change in vascular reactivity to NA in kidneys and druginduced hypertension in the rats, but not in the impaired vasodilation caused by EK506. There was no relationship between oxidative stress and EK506 - induced hypertension.

Chronic myeloid leukemia(CML) is a myeloproliferative disease which leads the unregulated growth of myeloid cells in the bone marrow. It is characterized by the presence of Philadelphia chromosome. Reciprocal translocation of the ABL gene from chromosome 9 to 22 t(9; 22)(q34; q11.2) generate a fusion gene(BCRABL). BCR-ABL protein had constitutive tyrosine kinase activity that is a primary cause of chronic phase of CML. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors(TKIs) are now considered standard therapy for patients with CML. Even though, successful treatment with the TKIs, allogeneic stem cell transplantation(ASCT) is still an important option for the treatment of CML, especially for patients who are resistant or intolerant to at least one second generation TKI or for patients with blastic phase. Today, we know that there is no evidence for increased transplantrelated toxicity and negative impact of survival with pretransplant TKIs. However, there are some controversies about timing of ASCT, the optimal conditioning regimens and donor source. Another important issue is that BCRABL signaling is not necessary for survival of CML stem cell and TKIs were not effective on these cells. So, ASCT may play a role to eliminate CML stem cells. In this article, we review the diagnosis, management and treatment of CML. Later, we present our center's outcomes of ASCT for patients with CML and then, we discuss the place of ASCT in CML treatment in the TKIs era.
