In recent decades, the demand for lightweight and high specific strength materials brings about the development of magnesium matrix composites. Different from some traditional binary ceramic particles, such as SiC, Al_(2)O_(3), the novel ternary nano-layered M_(n+1)AX_(n)(maX)phase carbide or nitride ceramics exhibit metal-like properties and self-lubricate capacity(where “M” is an early transition metal, “A” belongs to the group A element, “X” is C or/and N, and n = 1–3). Ti_(2)AlC, as the representative of the maX phase, was interestingly introduced into the magnesium matrix. Layered Ti_(2)AlC maX phased reinforced AZ91D magnesium composites manufactured through the stir casting exhibit sufficient deformation capacity due to unique deformation behaviors of maX, namely delamination and the formation of kinking band. Further,the Ti_(2)AlC-AZ91D composites exhibit a distinctive characteristic in strengthening mechanism, damping mechanism and tribological capacity due to the other special properties of maX phase, such as self-lubricated property. Accordingly, to give a comprehensive understanding, we overviewed the fabrication process, microstructural characterization, mechanical properties, damping property and tribological capacity on these composites. In order to understand the A-site effect in maX phase on the microstructure, we introduced another representative Ti_(3)SiC_(2)maX phase to explain the interfacial evolution. In addition, due to the high aspect ratio of maX, maX particles could be orientationally regulated in Mg matrix by plastic deformation such as hot extrusion. Herein, we discussed the anisotropic mechanical and physical properties of the textured composites produced by hot extrusion. Moreover, the potential applications and future development trends of maX phases reinforced magnesium matrix composites were also given and prospected.

In order to enhance the ablation-resistant performance of stainless-steel conductive rails,Mo coating,410 stainless steel coating and 15 wt%Cr_(2)AlIC particles reinforced 410 stainless steel composite coating were prepared and *** from the weak interfacial strength caused by the dissimilar metals between Mo and steel rails,410 stainless steel coating has better interfacial contact with steel *** introduction of Cr_(2)AlC into 410 stainless steels further strengthened the mechanical properties of coating by alloy strengthening effect and particle strengthening effect,as the decomposition of Cr_(2)AlC into nano CrC particles is accompanied with the diffusion of Al atoms into 410 stainless *** was found that the composite coating can still resist arc erosion at 150 A current,as a dense oxide film formed during the ablation process and the decomposition of Cr_(2)AlC contributed to the heat absorption.

Friction,wear,and contact fatigue are the main causes of energy loss,material waste,and equipment *** aim of remanufacturing is to repair and modify the damaged equipment surface,and the surface coating is the major material that allows the remanufactured parts to be used in a new round of ***,the design and preparation of surface coatings are very important to repair,strengthen,or modify the friction pairs,in order to ensure long-term operation of the remanufactured ***1y,a lot of research on designing and preparing friction pair surface modification coatings has been conducted by the National Key Laboratory for Remanufacturing (NKLR).The research conducted achieved the following goals:the mechanism of micro/nano multilayer surface modification coatings with long-term efficacy life was revealed,and the corresponding design considerations and preparation methods of nanocrystalline micro tribological coatings were innovatively developed.A series of new 'two-step' processes to prepare sulfide solid lubricating coatings were *** competitive failure mechanism of the surface coating in simultaneous wear and fatigue conditions was revealed,and some composite coatings with dual properties of wear resistance and fatigue resistance were *** on the stress distribution of friction surface contact areas and the piezoelectric effect,a failure warning intelligent coating is designed and *** coatings have been successfully applied to critical friction components,such as the spindle of large centrifugal compressors,engine cylinder piston components,and driver gear pairs.

To investigate the influences of Cr_(2)AlC mass fraction and supersonic plasma spraying process on the microstructure and mechanical properties of Cr_(2)AlC reinforced 410 stainless steel composite coatings,the coatings containing different mass fractions of Cr_(2)AlC were prepared and *** composite coating exhibited low porosity and high adhesion *** addition of Cr_(2)AlC significantly enhanced the hardness of the composite coatings through particle ***,when the mass fraction of Cr_(2)AlC was 20%,the aggregation of Cr_(2)AlC resulted in a strong decrease in the coating preparation efficiency,as well as a decline in adhesion *** the supersonic plasma spraying process,the Ar flow rate mainly influenced the flight velocity of the particles,while the H_(2) flow rate and the current mainly affected the temperature of the plasma ***,all of them influenced the melting degree of particles and the quality of the *** lowest porosity and the highest hardness and adhesion strength could be obtained when the Ar flow rate is 125 L/min,the H_(2) flow rate is 25 L/min,and the current is 385 A.

Change in Surface Microstructure and Properties of PTFE after Solar Radiation and its Mechanism

A series of solar radiation tests for the polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) bulk and film samples were carried out using Q-SUN XE-3-HSC type Solar Radiation Simulator, with the test parameters as follows: radiation intensity is 1 120 W/m^2, temperature is 55 ℃ and humidity is 70% RH. Surface morphology, composition and microstructure of the PTFE samples before and after radiation tests were characterized contrastively. Effect of solar radiation on the tribology and wetting properties of PTFE were also studied by tribometer and contact angle tester, respectively. The results show that, for radiated PTFE, surface roughness, the relative content of C element, the friction coefficients and the contact angle with water increased in varying degrees. In conclusion, the obvious change in PTFE samples can be mainly attributed to break of(CFx)-C bonds after bombardment of high energy UV photons, which causes the loss of F-rich groups, oxidation, crosslinking and restructuring of active unsaturated groups.

The Erosion Effect of Kapton Film in a Ground-based Atomic Oxygen Irradiation Simulator

In order to investigate the effect of space environmental factors on spacecraft materials, a ground-based simulation facility for space atomic oxygen（AO） irradiation was developed in our laboratory. Some Kapton film samples were subjected to AO beam generated by this facility. The Kapton films before and after AO exposure were analyzed comparatively using optical microscopy, scanning electronic microscopy, atomic force microscopy, high-precision microbalance, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The experimental results indicate that the transmittance of Kapton film will be reduced by AO irradiation notably, and its color deepens from pale yellow to brown. Surface roughness of the AO-treated sample is already increased obviously after AO irradiation for 5 hours, and exhibits a flannel-like appearance after 15 hours’ exposure in AO beam. The imide rings and benzene rings in kapton molecule are partially decomposed, and some new bonds form during AO irradiation. The mass loss of kapton film increases linearly with the increase of AO fluence, which is resulted from the formation of volatile products, such as CO, CO2 and NOx. The breakage in structure and degradation in properties of AO-treated Kapton film can be attributed to the integrated effect ofimpaction and oxidization of AO beam. The test results agree well with the space flight experimental data.

To date,Co-based metal-organic frameworks(Co-MOFs)have drawn much attention owing to their advantages of easy preparation,high porosity and adjustable *** of these enticing properties,numerous efforts have been devoted to their applications in energy storage and ***,poor conductivity has become one of the biggest obstacles for large-scale use of pristine ***,many attempts have been carried out to develop various Co-MOF derived materials as electrodes for rechargeable batteries in order to address the above-mentioned shortcoming and to enhance the electrical conductivity with improved stability during ***,in addition to improvement of Li-ion batteries in practical utilization,seeking for other rechargeable batteries is another urgent task due to the high cost and limited sources of metallic ***,by following the recent research progress,this review provides an overview of applications of Co-MOF derived materials in various rechargeable batteries including lithium-ion batteries,sodium-ion batteries,lithium-sulfur batteries,zinc air batteries and other rechargeable batteries,where they have been utilized as cathodes,anodes,separators and ***,we categorize and compare the morphology driven electrochemical performance of various Co-MOF derivatives including porous carbon,cobalt oxides,cobalt chalcogenides,cobalt phosphides and corresponding ***,current challenges for large-scale production and commercialization of Co-MOF derived materials as well as some reasonable solutions have been discussed at the end.

Molybdenum dialkyldithiocarbamate(MoDTC)is widely used as a friction modifier in engine lubricating *** MoDTC lubrication,the friction and wear behaviors of tungsten-doped diamond-like carbon(W-DLC)films annealed at 100-400℃were discussed and evaluated using scanning electron microscopy(SEM),atomic force microscopy(AFM),and Raman ***(polymerized alpha olefin)PAO+MoDTC lubrication,the coefficient of friction of all samples decreased,but the wear rates of the W-DLC films annealed at 300℃increased *** interacting with zinc dialkyldithiophosphate(ZDDP),the wear rates of W-DLC films annealed at different temperatures declined significantly owing to the formation of dense phosphate tribofilms on the worn surfaces.

A composite Ni based MoS2 solid lubrication coating was prepared using the plasma spraying technology with optimized process *** tribological properties of the composite Ni/MoS2 coatings in air and vacuum were studied with a ball-on-disk friction and wear tester under dry sliding condition,***,SEM and EDS were adopted to analyze the microstructures of the coating before and after wear *** showed that the deposition quality of the coating was *** content of lubricant MoS2 was *** the compactability of the coating with many superficial micrometersized defects such as pores and cracks was relatively *** composite Ni/MoS2 coating exhibited excellent friction-reduction properties both in air and in vacuum *** vacuum,the wear loss was greater because the severe spalling of top layer resulted from breakthrough of the adjacent *** air condition,the wear loss of the coating was relatively low but its friction-reduction ability may be weakened for the oxidation of MoS2.
