The Pearl River Delta(PRD)is one of the three urban agglomerations in China that have experienced rapid *** this study,a core area of the PRD was identified,comprising the highly urbanized areas of Guangzhou,Foshan,Zhongshan,Zhuhai,Shenzhen,and Dongguan *** expansion of these urban areas was tracked across three time periods—the year population urbanization rate exceeded 70%(2000),18 years before(1982),and 18 years after(2018).This study used the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model to explore summer rainfall changes across different urbanization periods in the PRD core *** results show that urban land expansion mainly occurred in the post urbanization *** changes acros s different urbanization periods were roughly consistent with previously observed spatial and temporal changes accompanying urban expansion in the PRD core *** rainfall mainly increased in the post urbanization period,shifting rainstorm center towards the PRD core *** causal analysis revealed that land use changes affected rainfall by altering thermodynamics and water vapor *** urban expansion changed the surface energy balance,resulting in increased surface heating and heat island *** heat island effects thickened the planetary boundary layer and increased vertical wind speeds,which initiated dry island effects,thereby causing more water vapor transportation to the ***,rainstorms and extreme rainfall events have become concentrated in urban areas.

This study focused on the performance and limitations of the local inertial approximation form model(LIM)of the shallow water equations(SWEs)when applied in urban flood modeling.A numerical scheme of the LIM equations was created using finite volume method with a first-order spatiotemporal Roe Riemann solver.A simplified urban stormwater model(SUSM)considering surface and underground dual drainage system was constructed based on LIM and the US Environmental Protection Agency Storm Water Management ***,a complete urban stormwater model(USM)based on the SWEs with the same solution algorithm was used as the evaluation *** results of the SUSM and USM in a highly urbanized area under four rainfall return periods were analyzed and *** results reveal that the performance of the SUSM is highly consistent with that of the USM but with an improvement in computational efficiency of approximately 140%.In terms of the accuracy of the model,the SUSM slightly underestimates the water depth and velocity and is less accurate when dealing with supercritical flow in urban stormwater flood ***,the SUSM can produce comparable results to USM with higher computational efficiency,which provides a simplified and alternative method for urban flood modeling.

High frequency(HF) communication, commonly covering frequency range between 3 and 30 MHz, is an important wireless communication paradigm to offer over-thehorizon or even global communications with ranges up to thousands of kilometers via skywave propagation with ionospheric refraction. It has widespread applications in fields such as emergency communications in disaster areas, remote communications with aircrafts or ships and non-light-of-the-sight military operations. This tutorial article overviews the history of HF communication, demystifies the recent advances, and provides a preview of the next few years, which the authors believe will see fruitful outputs towards wideband, intelligent and integrated HF communications. Specifically, we first present brief preliminaries on the unique features of HF communications to facilitate general readers in the communication community. Then, we provide a historical review to show the technical evolution on the three generations of HF communication systems. Further, we highlight the key challenges and research directions. We hope that this article will stimulate more interests in addressing the technical challenges on the research and development of future HF radio communication systems.

Plantar ROI Characterization during the Stance Phase of Gait Based on a Low-cost Pressure Acquisition Platform

Plantar Region of Interest （ROI） detection is important for the early diagnosis and treatment ofmorphologic defects of the foot and foot bionic research. Conventional methods have employed complex procedures and expensive instruments which prohibit their widespread use in healthcare. In this paper an automatic plantar ROIs detection method using a customized low-cost pressure acquisition device is proposed. Plantar pressure data and 3D motion capture data were collected from 28 subjects （14 healthy subjects and 14 subjects with hallux valgus）. The maximal inter-frame difference during the stance phase was calculated. Consequently, the ROIs were defined by the first-order difference in combination with prior anatomic knowl- edge. The anatomic locations were determined by the maximal inter-frame difference and second maximal inter-frame differ- ence, which nearly coincided. Our system can achieve average recognition accuracies of 92.90%, 89.30%, 89.30%, 92.90%, 92.90%, and 89.30% for plantar ROIs hallux and metatarsi I-V, respectively, as compared with the annotations using the 3D motion capture system. The maximal difference of metatarsus heads II-V, and the impulse of the medial and lateral heel features made a significant contribution to the classification ofhallux valgus and healthy subjects with ≥ 80% sensitivity and specificity. Furthermore, the plantar pressure acquisition system is portable and convenient to use, thus can be used in home- or commu- nity-based healthcare applications.

Wireless network is the communication foundation that supports the intelligentization of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) swarm. The topology of UAV communication network is the key to understanding and analyzing the behavior of UAV swarm, thus supporting the further prediction of UAV operations. However, the UAV swarm network topology varies over time due to the high mobility and diversified mission requirements of UAVs. Therefore, it is important but challenging to research dynamic topology inference for tracking the topology changes of the UAV network,especially in non-cooperative manner. In this paper, we study the problem of inferring UAV swarm network topology based on external observations, and propose a dynamic topology inference method. First, we establish a sensing framework for acquiring the communication behavior of the target network over time. Then, we expand the multi-dimensional dynamic Hawkes process to model the communication event sequence in a dynamic wireless network. Finally, combining the sliding time window mechanism, the maximum weighted likelihood estimation is applied to inferring the network topology. Extensive simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Urban Flood Mitigation Strategies with Coupled Gray-Green Measures:A Case Study in Guangzhou City,China

The integration of gray and green infrastructure has proven to be a feasible approach for managing stormwater in established urban ***,evaluating the specific contributions of such coupled strategies is *** study introduced a novel integrated hydrological-hydrodynamic model that takes into account the layout of low-impact development(LID)facilities along with pipeline alignment and *** results from modeling were used to assess the individual contribution of LID and improved drainage facilities to urban flooding *** selected a natural island in Guangzhou City,China,as the study *** results indicate that combining three LID measures,namely green roofs,sunken green spaces,and permeable pavements,can reduce total runoff by 41.7%to 25.89%for rainfall recurrence periods ranging from 1year to 100 years,and decrease the volume of nodal overflow by nearly half during rainfall events of less than 10-year return *** integrating LID measures with the upgraded gray infrastructure,the regional pipeline overloading condition is substantially alleviated,resulting in a significant improvement in pipeline system *** urban flooding control,it is recommended to integrate sufficient green space and avoid pipe-laying structural issues during urban planning and *** findings may assist stakeholders in developing strategies to best utilize gray and green infrastructure in mitigating the negative eff ects of urban flooding.

Spectrum prediction is a promising technology to infer future spectrum state by exploiting inherent patterns of historical spectrum *** practice,for a given spectrum band of interest,when facing relatively scarce historical data,spectrum prediction based on traditional learning methods does not work ***,this paper proposes a cross-band spectrum prediction model based on transfer ***,by analysing service activities and computing the distances between various frequency points based on Dynamic Time Warping,the similarity between spectrum bands has been ***,the features,which mainly affect the performance of transfer learning in the crossband spectrum prediction,are explored by leveraging transfer component ***,the effectiveness of transfer learning for the cross-band spectrum prediction has been ***,experimental results with real-world spectrum data demonstrate that the performance of the proposed model is better than the state-of-theart models when the historical spectrum data is limited.
