Three-dimensional characteristics of mesoscale eddies simulated by a regional model in the northwestern Pacific Ocean during 2000–2008

Mesoscale eddies play vital roles in ocean *** previous studies focused on eddy surface features and individual three-dimensional(3D)eddy cases in the northwestern Pacific Ocean,the analysis of unique eddy3D regional characteristics is still lacking.A 3D eddy detection scheme is applied to 9 years(2000-2008)of eddyresolving Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS)output to obtain a 3D eddy dataset from the surface to a depth of 1000 m in the northwestern Pacific Ocean(15°-35°N,120°-145°E).The 3D characteristics of mesoscale eddies are analyzed in two regions,namely,Box1(Subtropical Countercurrent,15°-25°N,120°-145°E)and Box2(Southern Kuroshio Extension,25°-35°N,120°-145°E).In Box1,the current is characterized by strong vertical shear and weak horizontal *** Box2,the current is characterized by the strong Kuroshio,topographic effect,and the westward propagation of Rossby *** results indicate the importance of baroclinic instability in Box1,whereas in Box2,both the barotropic and baroclinic instability are ***,the mesoscale eddies’properties in Box1 and Box2 are *** eddies in Box1 have larger number and radius but a shorter *** contrast,Box2 has fewer eddies,which have smaller radius but longer ***,more eddies are detected at the subsurface than at the surface in both regions;the depth of 650 m is the turning point in *** this depth,the number of cyclonic eddies(CEs)is larger than that of anticyclonic eddies(AEs).In Box2,the number of CEs is dominant *** kinetic energy(EKE)and mean normalized relative vorticity in Box2are significantly higher than those in *** increasing depth,the attenuation trend of EKE and relative vorticity of Box1 become greater than those of ***,the upper ocean(about 300 m in depth)contains 68.6%of the eddies(instantaneous eddy).Only 16.6%of the eddies extend to 1000 *** addition,about87%of the eddies are bowl-shaped eddies in the two reg

Geophysical fluid dynamics(GFD)is an interdisciplinary field that studies the large-scale motion of fluids in the natural *** a wide range of applications such as weather forecasts and climate prediction,GFD employs various research approaches including in-situ observations,satellite measurements,numerical simulations,theoretical analysis,artificial intelligence,and physical model experiments in *** these approaches,rotating tank experiments provide a valuable tool for simulating naturally-occurring fluid motions in *** proportional scaling and proper techniques,scientists can reproduce multi-scale physical processes of stratified fluids in the rotation system,which allows for the simulation of essential characteristics of fluid motions in the atmosphere and *** this review,rotating tanks of various scales in the world are introduced,as these tanks have been actively used to explore fundamental scientific questions in ocean and atmosphere *** illustrate the GFD experiments,three representative cases are presented to demonstrate the frontier achievements in the the GFD study by using rotating tank experiments:mesoscale eddies in the ocean,convection processes,and plume *** references for the experimental procedures are *** studies are encouraged to further explore the utilization of rotating tanks with improvements in experimental design and integration of other research *** is a promising direction of GFD to help enhance our understanding of the complex nature of fluid motions in the natural world and to address the challenges posed by global environmental changes.

The performances of the formation damage are permeability decreasing, skin factor increasing and productivity index decreasing. Generally, formation damage is not reversible. This phenomenon is known as reverse funnel effect （Porter 1989）. People have been trying to find effective ways to remedy the reservoir damage.

A thermal power plant of Sinopec has 9 boilers, which generally have problems of high exhaust gas temperature and high flying ash carbon content. In order to improve the adaptability of coals, the stability of coal powder ignition, the burn-off rate of pulverized coals and the boiler efficiency, a series of renovation projects about importing hot air into mill exhauster are proposed. For the sake of verifying the renovation effects, an efficiency performance test is conducted on the renovated #5 boiler. The test result shows that the boiler heat efficiency has improved by 0.4% and it operates more safely and reliably after the renovation. At last, this paper recommends an optimized operation mode.

通过对开滦集团唐山矿业分公司8个立井提升机电控系统的分析,对原有不符合要求的电控系统及高耗能设备进行了更换和改造。根据提升机使用的工作地点、电控系统、主电机及工作要求的不同,提出了利用转子三电平、SCR-D和定子变频3种调速方案对原有的电控系统进行改造。改造后的电控系统不仅满足了规程要求,而且节约了电能,保证了矿井提升安全。

高压直流断路器在直流系统保护中起着重要作用。针对现有直流断路器在经济性、合闸电弧问题和快速性方面不能兼备的缺陷,提出了一种强制换流型混合式高压直流断路器拓扑。所提方案的拓扑结构中引入了1个绝缘栅双极晶体管(insulated gate bipolar transistor,IGBT),用来配合隔离开关进行合闸操作;引入二极管组并将平波电抗器均分在断路器两侧,以减小对避雷器的压力,延长避雷器的使用寿命;电力电子支路用子模块级联拓扑,避开了大规模IGBT动态均压的技术难题。基于所提拓扑设计了10kV直流断路器,对正常运行以及故障切除、故障恢复合闸下的运行情况进行了分析及仿真,同时与含ABB方案的两种典型方案进行了比较。仿真结果表明:基于所提拓扑的直流断路器最快切除故障电流时间为3.63 ms,开断电流容量为4.09 kA,正常合闸机械支路端电压为0,实现了无弧合闸,IGBT使用数量较ABB方案减半,避雷器吸收能量较传统方案减半,经济性较好,符合直流断路器性能要求。该结果验证了所提拓扑结构具备可行性。

Agricultural practices significantly contribute to greenhouse gas(GHG)emissions,necessitating cleaner production technologies to reduce environmental pressure and achieve sustainable maize *** film mulching is commonly used in the Loess Plateau *** slow-release fertilizers as a replacement for urea within this practice can reduce nitrogen losses and enhance crop *** these techniques represents a novel agricultural approach in semi-arid ***,the impact of this integration on soil carbon storage(SOCS),carbon footprint(CF),and economic benefits has received limited research ***,we conducted an eight-year study(2015-2022)in the semi-arid northwestern region to quantify the effects of four treatments[urea supplied without plastic film mulching(CK-U),slow-release fertilizer supplied without plastic film mulching(CK-S),urea supplied with plastic film mulching(PM-U),and slow-release fertilizer supplied with plastic film mulching(PM-S)]on soil fertility,economic and environmental *** results revealed that nitrogen fertilizer was the primary contributor to total GHG emissions(≥71.97%).Compared to other treatments,PM-S increased average grain yield by 12.01%-37.89%,water use efficiency by 9.19%-23.33%,nitrogen accumulation by 27.07%-66.19%,and net return by 6.21%-29.57%.Furthermore,PM-S decreased CF by 12.87%-44.31%and CF per net return by 14.25%-41.16%.After eight years,PM-S increased SOCS(0-40 cm)by 2.46%,while PM-U decreased it by 7.09%.These findings highlight the positive effects of PM-S on surface soil fertility,economic gains,and environmental benefits in spring maize production on the Loess Plateau,underscoring its potential for widespread adoption and application.
