Influence of cerium and yttrium addition on strength and electrical conductivity of pure aluminum alloys

To develop pure aluminum alloys with high conductivity and strength, Al-0.2Ce and Al-0.2Ce-0.1Y alloys were prepared by rolling and annealing processes in this study. The effects of trace rare earth elements on the strength and electrical conductivity of the pure aluminum alloys were investigated. It is revealed that the addition of Ce and Y to pure aluminum can effectively enhance the strength and electrical conductivity of the alloys. In Al-0.2Ce, the addition of Ce can effectively refine the grain size of a-Al, with an average grain size of 90.68 μm in the as-cast state. The grain size of the alloy is further reduced to 87.55 μm by the simultaneous addition of Y. The synergistic addition of Ce and Y changes the properties of the alloy. The addition of Ce and Y also produces the Al_(11)Ce_(3) and Al_(3)Y second phases, which have coherent relationship with a-Al. The two-dimensional mismatch degree was calculated to be only 4.43%and 0.85%, respectively, which can provide a certain amount of nucleation substrate for a-Al in the incubation stage. The interfacial match between the L1_(2)structure of Al_(3)Y and a-Al was calculated using first-principles simulations. The results indicate that Al_(3)Y has a strong bonding effect with a-Al. Nanoscale second phases at grain boundaries can be effective in reducing resistivity due to dislocation *** second phases with better matching interfaces to the substrate have no positive effect on the scattering motion of electrons.

Canard Solutions in a Predator-Prey Model

The canard explosion phenomenon in a predator-prey model with Michaelis-Menten functional response is analyzed in this paper by employing the geometric singular perturbation theory. First, some turning points, such as, fold point, transcritical point, pitchfork point, canard point, are identified;then Hopf bifurcation, relaxation oscillation, together with the canard transition from Hopf bifurcation to relaxation oscillation are discussed.

A Flux Ratio Independent of the Permanent Charge in PNP Models

PNP models with an arbitrary number of positively charged ion species and one negatively charged ion species are studied in this paper under the assumption that positively charged ion species have the same valence and the permanent charge is a piecewise constant function. The permanent charge plays the key role in many functions of an ion channel, such as selectivity and gating. In this paper, using the geometric singular perturbation theory, a flux ratio independent of the permanent charge is proved.

We show a nonlinear materials equation of superconductors in the form of an extended power law which can be derived from the Ginzburg–Landau (GL) functional. The critical current Jc and ac susceptibility χ are analysed by using this equation, and the puzzling question of the increasing height of the out-of-phase susceptibility peak χ''peak with increasing amplitude hac is explained.

Effects of Small Permanent Charge on PNP Models

In this paper, a stationary one-dimensional Poisson-Nernst-Planck model with permanent charge is studied under the assumption that n - 1 positively charged ion species have the same valence and the permanent charge is small. By expanding the singular solutions of Poisson-Nernst-Planck model with respect to small permanent charge, the explicit formulae for the zeroth order approximation and the first order approximation of individual flux can be obtained. Based on these explicit formulae, the effects of small permanent charges on individual flux are investigated.

A steady-state Poisson-Nernst-Planck model with n ion species is studied under the assumption that n - 1 positively charged ion species have the same valence and there is only one negatively charged ion species. By re-scaling, this model can be viewed as a standard singularly perturbed system. Based on the explicit formulae for the solutions of its limit slow system and singular perturbation methods, the existence of the solutions is analyzed.
