Kidney inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor masquerading as metastatic malignancy: A case report and literature review

BACKGROUND Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor(IMT) is a rare mesenchymal tumor that is characterized by spindle cells differentiated from muscle fibroblasts and infiltration of various types of inflammatory cells. IMT can occur at any age and at any anatomic site. The most common location of IMT is the bladder in the genitourinary tract. Only scarce cases of kidney IMT have been reported in the *** SUMMARY A 77-year-old woman, with a history of bilateral renal calculus for 15 years, was admitted to the Department of Urology of our hospital complaining of recurrent painless gross hematuria for one month. The treatment with cephalosporin was ineffective. Computed tomography imaging showed a mixed density and slightly heterogeneously enhanced lesion in the middle pole of the left kidney and ipsilateral adrenal enlargement. The patient underwent surgical treatment by retroperitoneoscopic left radical nephrectomy plus adrenalectomy. A large number of typical spindle cells surrounded by plasma cells and lymphocytes were observed microscopically. Immunohistochemical analyses indicated that these spindle cells were positive for vimentin, cytokeratin(CK), Ki-67, CK7,CD34, and CD31 and were focally positive for CD10 and anaplastic lymphoma kinase(ALK-1). Thus, a diagnosis of IMT was made definitively. The patient recovered well after operation, and no recurrence or metastasis was noted during the 22-mo *** Since kidney IMT is very rare and lacks characteristic clinical manifestation, it is easily misdiagnosed as a malignant tumor before operation. Surgery remains the best choice for diagnosis and treatment, and such cases must be followed carefully because of the uncertain biological behavior of this tumor. This report suggests that renal calculus may be one of the causes of IMT, but further investigation is necessary to prove it.

A novel two-dimensional network manganese(Ⅱ) polymer complex [Mn(O2CCH2CI)2-(phen)]n has been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectrum. The crystal structure of title complex has also been determined, which is in monoclinic of a space group P21/c with the following unit cell parameters at 294K: a=1.9738(4) nm, b =1.1384(2) nm, c =0.74915(14) nm, V =1.6795(5) nm3, Z= 2.

The corrosion behaviour of a non-equiatomic CoCrFeNiMo high-entropy alloy(HEA)in H_(2)S-containing and H_(2)S-free environments was studied by electrochemical tests,surface characterization,and solution *** results showed that the HEA exhibited primary and secondary passivation in the H_(2)S-free environment,and the transition was owing to the enhanced dissolution of Fe *** with the primary passive film,the Cr/Fe ratio in the secondary passive film increased at the expense of the selective dissolution of ***,the corrosion resistance of HEA decreased with the applied *** was the most stable element in the film of HEA,regardless of H_(2)*** presence of H_(2)S accelerated the dissolution of all the cationic elements in the HEA.H_(2)S promoted the formation of thicker but less protective surface film and induced the loss of passivity.

A kind of pseudo-hypercrosslinked polymer resin was firstly synthesized via a continuous Friedel-Crafts alkylation poly- merization of benzene, diphenyl and their dichloromethyl derivatives. And the micromorphology and adsorption properties of these resins were investigated. The results demonstrated that the novel resins have high-specific surface area （581.26-974.88 m^2/g）, high- pore volume （0.56-1.65 mL/g）, small average porous radius （1.93-3.67 nm） and excellent adsorption properties for small non-polar organic molecules.

The reconstruction control of modular self-reconfigurable spacecraft (MSRS) is addressed using an adaptive sliding mode control (ASMC) scheme based on time-delay estimation (TDE) technology. In contrast to the ground, the base of the MSRS is floating when assembled in orbit, resulting in a strong dynamic coupling effect. A TED-based ASMC technique with exponential reaching law is designed to achieve high-precision coordinated control between the spacecraft base and the robotic arm. TDE technology is used by the controller to compensate for coupling terms and uncertainties, while ASMC can augment and improve TDE’s robustness. To suppress TDE errors and eliminate chattering, a new adaptive law is created to modify gain parameters online, ensuring quick dynamic response and high tracking accuracy. The Lyapunov approach shows that the tracking errors are uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB). Finally, the on-orbit assembly process of MSRS is simulated to validate the efficacy of the proposed control scheme. The simulation results show that the proposed control method can accurately complete the target module’s on-orbit assembly, with minimal perturbations to the spacecraft’s attitude. Meanwhile, it has a high level of robustness and can effectively eliminate chattering.

Ablotlc stress, such as salt, drought and extreme temperature, can result in enhanced production of reactive oxygen species （ROS）. Plants have developed both enzymatic ROS-scavenging and non-enzymatic ROS-scavenging systems. The major ROS-scavenging enzymes of plants include superoxide dismutase （SOD）, ascorbate peroxldaae （APX）, catalaae （CAT）, glutathione peroxldaae （GPX） and peroxiredoxina （Prxa）. In the present work, we identified a gene encoding chloroplast-located peroxiredoxin Q, SsPrxQ, from Suaeda salsa L. located at chloroplast. Overexpression of SsPrxQ In Arabidopsis leads to an increase In salt and low-temperature tolerance.

Electrostatic accelerator is a powerflfl tool in many research fields, such as nuclear physics, radiation biology, material science *** and earth sciences. Two electrostatic accelerators, one is the single stage Vail de Gi＇aaff with terminal voltage of 4.5 MV and another one is tile EN tamteIn with terminal voltage of 6 MV, were installed in 1980s and had been put into operation since the early 1990s at tile Institute of Heavy Ion Physics. Marly applications have been carried out since then. These two accelerators are described and summaries of the most important applications on neutron physics and technology, radiation biology and material science, as well as accelerator mass spectrometry （AMS） are presented.

Heavy Metal Accumulation in Plants on Mn Mine Tailings

The Xiangtan Manganese (Mn) Mine in the middle of Hunan Province, China, has been mined since 1913 with mine tailings including excavated wastes, wastewater, and smelting wastes. A survey was conducted on the Mn mine tailing soils and eight plants on the Mn mine tailings. The concentrations of soil Mn, Pb, and Cd and the metal-enrichment traits of these eight plants were analyzed simultaneously. Exceptionally high concentrations of these three metals were found in the soils, especially on the tailing dam. Each plant investigated in this study accumulated the three heavy metals, but no hyperaccumulator of these metals was found. However, analysis indicated that Poa pratensis Linn., Gnaphalium affine D. Don, Pteris vittata L., Conyza canadensis (L.) Cronq., and Phytolacca acinosa Roxb. possessed specially good metal-enrichment and metal-tolerant traits. P. pratensis, G. affine, and P. vittata were Pb-tolerant plants; and C. canadensis, P. pratensis, and G. affine were Cd-tolerant plants. P. acinosa had a great tolerance to Mn. and it was a valuable plant for on-site phytoremediation. Phragmites communis Trin. was found to have high metal tolerance and economic benefit as a raw material for paper and should be considered for soil remediation. G. affine and C. canadensis had excessive accumulation of Mn and could be useful in phytoremediation. However, although P. pratensis was a good accumulator, it was not a suitable plant for soil remediation because its biomass was too little.

A simulation method for measurement of the cross-section of the^(14)N(n,a)^(11)B reaction with gas and solid samples using a gridded ionization chamber(GIC)has been *** the simulation,the experimental spectra of both^(14)N(n,a)^(11)B events and background from other reactions can be predicted,and the experimental scheme can be *** to the simulation results,the optimal experimental parameters,including the pressure of the working gas and the compositions of the working gas and the sample,can be *** addition,the simulation results can be used to determine the valid event area and calculate the detection efficiency for valid events.A measurement of the cross-sections of the^(14)N(n,a)^(11)B reaction at E_(n)=4.25,4.50,4.75,5.00,5.25,and 5.50 MeV,based on the 4.5-MV Van de Graff accelerator at Peking University(PKU)using a GIC as the detector for the outgoing a particles,has been *** good agreement of the spectra from the simulation and experiment demonstrated the universality of this simulation method,which can be used to accurately measure neutroninduced light-charged particle emission reactions.
