Study on the effect and mechanism of Yanghe decoction Huacai(阳和汤化裁) on tissue repair of Yin syndrome after anal fistula surgery

OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical efficacy and safety of Yanghe decoction Huacai(阳和汤化裁) for the repair of Yin syndrome wounds with slow-healing after anal fistula surgery. METHODS: A total of 120 patients with slow-healing negative wounds with after low-grade anal fistula surgery who met the inclusion criteria were divided into a treatment group and a control group based on a random number table method, with 60 patients in the treatment group and 60 patients in the control group. The treatment group was given Yanghe decoction Huacai in combination with routine treatment; the control group was only given routine treatment, in which the wound surface was disinfected with iodine, and then covered with sterile gauze. The course of treatment in both groups was 10 d. After treatment, the wound secretion score, wound granulation tissue score, the expression levels of basic fibroblast growth factor(bFGF), transforming growth factor β1(TGF-β1), and epidermal growth factor(EGF) in the wound, wound healing time and clinical efficacy were compared. RESULTS: There was no significant difference in age or gender between the two groups(P > 0.05). On the 10th and 15th days after the surgery, the wound secretion scores were higher in the treatment group than in the control group(P < 0.01). Comparing the two groups at the 10th and 15th day after surgery, the granulation tissue growth scores in the treatment group were better than the in control group(P < 0.01). On the 10th and 15th day after operation, the expression levels of bFGF, TGF-β1 and EGF factors in the treatment group were stronger than those in the control group. The healing time of the wounds in the treatment group was significantly shorter than in the control group(P < 0.01). The clinical efficacy of the two groups after treatment was compared, and the overall efficacy of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of the control group(P < 0.01). Do nocturnal birds use acoustic and visual cues to avoid predation by bats?

Anti-predation strategies are critical to animal survival and are fundamental to deciphering predator–prey *** an important defense strategy,sensory predator detection(such as through acoustic and visual cues)enables animals to assess predation risk and execute predator-avoidance behavior;however,there are limited studies on the anti-predation behavior of nocturnal *** prey of bats provides an excellent representative system for examining the anti-predation behavior of nocturnal ***,we broadcasted different types of echolocation calls of the bird-eating bat Ia io to two wild passerine birds,namely,Zosterops japonicus and Sinosuthora webbiana,that are preyed upon by ***,and presented the birds with individual bats under different light *** results showed that both bird species were able to perceive the low-frequency audible portion of the bats’echolocation calls;however,they did not exhibit escape responses to the acoustic *** the dark and under moonlit conditions,both bird species were unable to respond to active bats at close range and the birds only exhibited evasive flight behavior when bats approached or touched *** results suggest that nocturnal passerine birds may not be able to use acoustic or visual cues to detect bats and adopt evasive maneuvers to avoid *** work suggests that bat predation pressure may not elicit primary predator-avoidance responses in nocturnal passerine *** results provide new insights into the anti-predation behavior of nocturnal animals.

A model reduction approach for discrete-time linear time-variant systems with delayed inputs

A model reduction approach is presented for discrete-time linear time-variant input-delayed systems. According to this proposed approach, a dynamical variable is constructed by taking advantage of the current state and historical information of input. It is revealed that the behavior of this dynamical variable is governed by a discrete-time linear delay-free system. It is worth noting that the presented variable transformation does not require the system matrix to be invertible. Based on the reduced delay-free models,stabilizing control laws can be easily obtained for the original delayed system. For the case with a single input delay, the constructed variable is an exact prediction for the future state, and thus the stabilizing control law could be designed by replacing the future state with its prediction. Finally, three discrete-time periodic systems with delayed input are employed to illustrate how to utilize the presented model reduction approaches.

Day-ahead Voltage-stability-constrained Network Topology Optimization with Uncertainties

Perceptions and Controversies on Cholera in the Traditional Chinese Medicine Field in the Late Qing Dynasty

At the beginning of the initial cholera outbreak in China,Wang Qingren(王清任),after years of clinical trials,became an early representative who discovered the infectious characteristics and observed the course of cholera in the field of traditional Chinesse medicine(TCM).Kou Langao(寇兰皋)and Xu Zimo(徐子默),both medical practitioners,constructed a diagnosis and treatment system for cholera with cold patterns under the theory of *** represented“School of Cholera with Cold Patterns”(SCCP).In the 1860s,with the influence of Wang Shixiong’s(王士雄)studies on the nature of cholera under the theory of epidemic febrile disease,the“School of Cholera with Heated Patterns”(SCHP)prevailed *** two schools complemented each other in theories and contributed to the integrity of TCM in cholera diagnosis and *** reviewing previous literature,books,clinical cases,and historical materials in medical field,this article aims 1)to summarise the influence of TCM on the cognitive development towards cholera in the late Qing dynasty;2)to explore the origin of the controversy between SCCP and SCHP from historical evidence;3)to summarize the historical lessons from the debate over cholera in TCM based on the principle of treatment based on pattern identification,and offer suggestions for the current prevention and treatment of new diseases using TCM.

Suppression of roots and/or their symbiotic microorganisms,such as mycorrhizal fungi and rhizobia,is an effective way for alien plants to outcompete native ***,little is known about how invasive and native plants interact with the quantity and activity of nutrient-acquisition *** a pot experiment was conducted with monoculture and mixed plantings of an invasive plant,Xanthium strumarium,and a common native legume,Glycine *** measured traits related to root and nodule quantity and activity and mycorrhizal *** to the monoculture,fine root quantity(biomass,surface area)and activity(root nitrogen(N)concentration,acid phosphatase activity)of *** decreased in mixed plantings;nodule quantity(biomass)decreased by 45%,while nodule activity in Nfixing via rhizobium increased by 106%;mycorrhizal colonization was *** of N fixation to leaf N content in *** increased in the mixed plantings,and this increase was attributed to a decrease in the rhizosphere soil N of *** in the mixed *** root quantity and activity,along with a higher mycorrhizal association was observed in *** in the mixed compared to ***,the invasive plant did not directly scavenge N from nodule-fixed N,but rather depleted the rhizosphere soil N of the legume,thereby stimulating the activity of N-fixation and increasing the dependence of the native legume on this N *** quantity-activity framework holds promise for future studies on how native legumes respond to alien plant invasions.

Simultaneous photocatalytic degradation and SERS detection of tetracycline with self-sustainable and recyclable ternary PI/TiO_(2)/Ag flexible microfibers

Facile and efficient photocatalysts using sunlight,as well as fast and sensitive surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy(SERS)substrates,are urgently needed for practical degradation of tetracycline(TC).To meet these requirements,a new paradigm for PI/TiO_(2)/Ag organic‒inorganic ternary flexible microfibers based on semiconducting titanium dioxide(TiO_(2)),the noble metal silver(Ag)and the conjugated polymer polyimide(PI)was developed by engineering a simple *** sunlight,the photocatalytic characteristics of the PI/TiO_(2)/Ag flexible microfibers containing varying amounts of Ag quantum dots(QDs)were evaluated with photocatalytic degradation of TC in aqueous *** results demonstrated that the amount of Ag affected the photocatalytic *** the tested samples,PI/TiO_(2)/Ag-0.07(93.1%)exhibited a higher photocatalytic degradation rate than PI/TiO_(2)(25.7%),PI/TiO_(2)/Ag-0.05(77.7%),and PI/TiO_(2)/Ag-0.09(63.3%).This observation and evaluation conducted in the present work strongly indicated a charge transfer ***,the PI/TiO_(2)/Ag-0.07 flexible microfibers exhibited highly sensitive SERS detection,as demonstrated by the observation of the Raman peaks for TC even at an extremely low concentration of 10–10 moles per *** excellent photocatalytic performance and SERS detection capability of the PI/TiO_(2)/Ag flexible microfibers arose from the Schottky barrier formed between Ag and TiO_(2)and also from the outstanding plasmonic resonance and visible light absorptivity of Ag,along with immobilization by the *** successful synthesis of PI/TiO_(2)/Ag flexible microfibers holds significant promise for sensitive detection and efficient photocatalytic degradation of antibiotics.

Overcoming adaptive resistance in AML by synergistically targeting FOXO3A-GNG7-mTOR axis with FOXO3A inhibitor Gardenoside and rapamycin

Therapeutic targeting FOxO3A(a forkhead transcription factor)represents a prom-ising strategy to suppress acute myeloid leukemia(AML).However,the effective inhibitors that target FOXO3A are lacking and the adaptive response signaling weakens the cytotoxic effect of FOxO3A depletion on AML ***,we show that FOxO3A deficiency induces a compensa-tory response involved in the reactive activation of mTOR that leads to signaling rebound and adaptive *** metabolism acts downstream of mTOR to provoke activa-tion of JNK/c-JUN via reactive oxygen species(ROS).At the molecular level,FOXO3A directly binds to the promoter of G protein gamma subunit 7(GNG7)and preserves its expression,while GNG7 interacts with mTOR and restricts phosphorylated activation of ***,combinatorial inhibition of FOXO3A and mTOR show a synergistic cytotoxic effect on AML cells and prolongs survival in a mouse model of *** a structure-based virtual screening,we report one potent small-molecule FOxO3A inhibitor(Gardenoside)that exhibits a strong effect of anti-FOXO3A DNA *** synergizes with rapamycin to substantially reduce tumor burden and extend survival in AML patient-derived xenograft *** results demonstrate that mTOR can mediate adaptive resistance to FOxO3A inhibition and validate a combinatorial approach for treating AML.
