problems associated with carbon support corrosion under operating fuel cell conditions require the identification of alternative supports for platinum-based nanosized *** supported on manganese vanadate(pt/MnV_(2)O_(6))was prepared by microwave irradiation method and characterized using X-ray diffraction,Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive spectroscopy,and transmission electron *** borohydride oxidation reaction(BOR)on pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was studied in highly alkaline media using voltammetry,chronoamperometry,and electrochemical impedance *** electrocatalytic activity of pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was also compared with that of commercial pt/C(46 wt%pt)*** apparent activation energy of BOR at pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) was estimated to be 32 k J mol^(-1) and the order of reaction to be 0.51,indicating that borohydride hydrolysis proceeds in parallel with its ***-term stability of pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) under BOR typical conditions was observed.A laboratory-scale direct borohydride fuel cell assembled with a pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) anode reached a specific power of 274 W g^(-1).Experimental results on pt/MnV_(2)O_(6) were complemented by DFT calculations,which indicated good adherence of pt to MnV_(2)O_(6),beneficial for electrocatalyst stability.

photocatalytic degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol with V_2O_5-TiO_2 catalysts: Effect of catalyst support and surfactant additives

Binary oxide catalysts with various weight percentage V2O5 loadings were prepared by solid‐state dispersion and the nanocomposites were modified with surfactants. The catalysts were analyzed using X‐ray diffraction, diffuse‐reflectance spectroscopy, Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and N2 adsorption‐desorption. The photocatalytic activities of the catalysts were evaluated in the degradation of 2,4‐dichlorophenol under ultraviolet irradiation. The photocatalytic activity of 50 wt%V2O5‐TiO2 （50V2O5‐TiO2） was higher than those of pure V2O5, TiO2, and p25. Interactions between V2O5 and TiO2 affected the photocatalytic efficiencies of the binary oxide catalysts. Cetyltrimethylammonium bromide （CTAB） and hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide （HTAB） significantly enhanced the efficiency of the 50V2O5‐TiO2 catalyst. The highest per‐centage of 2,4‐dichlorophenol degradation （100%） and highest reaction rate （2.22 mg/（L·min）） were obtained in 30 min with the （50V2O5‐TiO2）‐CTAB catalyst. It is concluded that the addition of a surfactant to the binary oxide significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity by modifying the optical and electronic properties of V2O5 and TiO2.

Cluster decay half-lives using asymmetry dependent densities

By adopting different neutron and proton density distributions,cluster decay half-lives were investigated using double-folding potentials with constant and nuclear asymmetry dependent sets of nuclear density *** adopted asymmetry dependent sets of parameters were fitted based on microscopic calculations,and they were calculated based on the neutron skin/halo-type nuclei assumption and by employing experimental rms charge radii.A bulk agreement between theory and experiment was obtained for all sets of parameters using a calculated cluster preformation *** differences were observed between the skin and halo-type ***,the notable role of the asymmetry parameter was observed in the relatively large differences between the skin and skintype with zero thickness.

The dependence of proton emission half-lives on the nuclear asymmetry parameter is investigated using the WKB method and two types of empirical *** the single-folding formalism with asymmetry-depend-ent nuclear radius and surface diffuseness of nuclear matter,the nuclear potential and consequently the half-life are functions of the asymmetry *** small values of asymmetry in neutron-deficient proton emitters,notice-able changes in the half-lives are *** addition of an asymmetry parameter term to the two forms of empir-ical formulas leads to a reduction in the rms error for ground state and isomeric transitions.A noticeable reduction of about 43%is obtained for isomeric transitions in the second form of the empirical *** ground state transitions in two categories,odd-even and odd-odd emitters,and adopting deformation and asymmetry-dependent empirical formulas,the rms decreases *** low est values of rms errors,viz.0.1492,0.2312,and 0.1999,are obtained for the aforementioned empirical formulas for ground state transitions of odd-even and odd-odd emit-ters and for all isomeric transitions,respectively.

The article describes ethylene polymerization reactions with transition metal catalysts based on complexes of CoCl_(2) and FeCl_(2) with an N,N,N-tridentate ligand 2,6-bis[1-(2,6-dimethylphenylimino)ethyl]pyridine. The complexes are converted into polymerization catalysts by reacting them either with polymethylalumoxane (MAO) or with a combination of Al(C2H5)2Cl and Mg(C4H9)2 at an [Al]:[Mg] ratio of ~3. Both MAO-activated complexes readily polymerize ethylene at 35 ℃ with the formation of linear, low molecular weight polymers with a narrow molecular weight distribution. The same complexes, when activated with the Al(C2H5)2Cl-Mg(C4H9)2 combination, form multi-center catalysts and generate polyethylenes with a broad molecular weight distribution.

Fatty liver is a growing health problem worldwide. It might evolve to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, cirrhosis and cause hepatocellular carcinoma. This disease, which has increased because of eating habits, changes in food content and lifestyle, affects people from childhood. The most important risk factors are obesity and insulin resistance. Besides these factors, gender, ethnicity, genetic predisposition and some medical problems are also important. Cirrhosis in children is rare but is reported. Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD) has no specific symptoms or signs but should be considered in obese children. NAFLD does not have a proven treatment. Weight loss with family based treatments is the most acceptable management. Exercise and an applicable diet with low glycemic index and appropriate calorie intake are preferred. Drugs are promising but not sufficient in children for today.

Radionuclides and mercury in the salt lakes of the Crimea

^99sr concentrations, resulting from the Chernobyl Npp accident, were determined in the salt lakes of the Crimea （Lakes Kiyatskoe, Kirleutskoe, Kizil-Yar, Bakalskoe and Donuzlav）, together with the redistribution between the components of the ecosystems. The content of mercury in the waters of the studied reservoirs was also established. Vertical distributions of natural radionuclide activities （^238U, ^232Th, ^226Ra, ^210pb, ^40K） and anthropogenic ^137Cs concentrations （as radiotracers） were determined in the bottom sediments of the Koyashskoe salt lake （located in the south-eastern Crimea） to evaluate the long- term dynamics and biogeochemical processes. Radiochemical and chemical analysis was undertaken and radiotracer and statistical methods were applied to the analytical data. The highest concentrations of ^99sr in the water of Lake Kiyatskoe （350.5 and 98.0 Bq/m^3） and Lake Kirleutskoe （121.3 Bq/m^3） were due to the discharge of the Dnieper water from the North-Crimean Canal. The high content of mercury in Lake Kiyatskoe （363.2 ng/L） and in seawater near Lake Kizil-Yar （364 ng/L） exceeded the maximum permissible concentration （3.5 times the maximum）. Natural radionuclides provide the main contribution to the total radioactivity （artificial and natural combined） in the bottom sediments of Lake Koyashskoe. The significant concentration of ^210pb in the upper layer of bottom sediments of the lake indicates an active inflow of its parent radionuclide-gaseous ^222Rn from the lower layers of the bottom sediment. The average sedimentation rates in Lake Koyashskoe, determined using ^210pb and ^137Cs data, were 0.117 and 0.109 cm per year, respectively.

New stylophorans(Echinodermata) from the Upper Cambrian of Guangxi,south China

This paper describes for the first time the cornute stylophorans (Echinodermata) in China. The new material came from the Guole Formation of the Furongian (Late Cambrian) in the Guole area of Jingxi, Guangxi province, south China. These new cornute specimens are preserved in situ and found along with well-preserved trilobites and brachiopods. One new species, phyllocystis jingxiensis sp. nov., is proposed to accommodate these unusual materials. The new species is defined by the small, heart-shaped theca with the frame composed of ten narrow, smooth and thick marginal plates, three adoral plates and distinctive zygal and aulacophore. Both supracentrals and infracentrals are polygonal-outlined. The marginal plate M1' on the inferior face extends posteriorly to form zygal that possesses a broadened proximal end and the proximal portion joining with the conjunction between M4 and M5 on the inferior face. Aulacophore comprises ten segments at its proximal part and is conical at the middle part (named stylocone). Its distal portion is rather long and bears conspicuous ambulacrum grooves. Tectals are horizontally arranged on superior face and obliquely arranged on inferior face. Both cothurnopore and anal pyramid are vaguely seen on the right anterior corner and the extremity of theca's superior face.
