Hereditary angioedema is a rare but life-threatening disease, usually resulting from upper respiratory tract traumas and stress. In this case report, we present the management of a 14-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with hereditary angioedema and scheduled to undergo transurethral resection of bladder (TURB) procedure for bladder tumor. She was on prophylactic danazol treatment and prior to the operation the dose of danazol was increased. On the day of the operation, patient was given C1-IHN concentrate and was sedated. In conclusion, hereditary angioedema is a rare disease in which multidisciplinary and aggressive approach during anesthesia would yield successful results.

The enhancement of the sensitivity for anthocyanin-based indicator films in food freshness monitoring in real time is important for *** this study,hydrophilic silica aerogel(SiO2 NA)was incorporated into corn starch(CS)/chitosan(CH)/rose anthocyanins(RACNs)-encapsulated potato amylopectin nanoparticles(APNPs)composite film to increase the sensitivity for shrimp freshness *** microstructure of films revealed that the gas absorption capacity was improved by amorphous SiO2 NA via hydrogen *** pore size(1.74–5.60 times),pore volume(3.92–5.60 times),and specific surface area(2.21–2.34 times)of films increased with the addition of SiO2 *** sensing of NH3 and pH and the reversibility of films were also ***,the pH-responsive films containing SiO2 NA changed visibly in color from purple–red to orange–gray and finally to gray,enabling effective monitoring of shrimp freshness during storage at 4°***,anthocyanin-based indicator films with improved sensitivity by adding SiO2 NA were successfully designed for monitoring shrimp freshness.

Background Retinopathy of prematurity(ROP)is generally considered to be more frequent in males than in ***,it is not known whether sex differences in ROP affect all degrees of the condition,are global and have changed as neonatology has *** aimed to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies addressing sex differences in the risk of developing *** PubMed/MEDLINE and Embase databases were *** frequentist,random-effects risk ratio(RR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)were *** model averaged(BMA)meta-analysis was used to calculate the Bayes factors(BFs).The BF10 is the ratio of the probability of the data under the alternative hypothesis(H1)over the probability of the data under the null hypothesis(H0).Results We included 205 studies(867,252 infants).Frequentist meta-analysis showed a positive association between male sex and severe ROP(113 studies,RR=1.14,95%CI=1.07–1.22)but no association with any ROP(144 studies,RR=1.00,95%CI=0.96–1.03).BMA showed extreme evidence in favor of H1 for severe ROP(BF10=71,174)and strong evidence in favor of H0 for any ROP(BF10=0.05).The association between male sex and severe ROP remained stable over time and was present only in cohorts from countries with a high or high-middle sociodemographic *** Our study confirms the presence of a male disadvantage in severe ROP but not in less severe forms of the *** are variations in the sex differences in ROP,depending on geographical location and sociodemographic level of the countries.

A case of solid pseudopapillary tumor of the pancreas

We present ultrasound, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging findings in a case with pancreatic solid pseudopapillary tumor and their correlations with histopathology. Ultrasound revealed a hypoechogenic mass, and computed tomography revealed a hypodense mass at the pancreatic head minimally enhanced after intravenous contrast agent administration. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a hypointense mass on unenhanced Tl-weighted images including a hyperintense focus representing the hemorrhage. The lesion was hyperintense on T2- weighted images. On the postcontrast images the lesion showed peripheral thin contrast enhancement in arterial phase and enhanced slightly diffusely in venous and equilibrium phases. The patient underwent elective resection of the mass and pancreatoduodenectomy with jejunostomy tube placement. A final diagnosis of solid pseudopapillary tumor was made histoPathologically. Solid pseudopapillary tumor is a rare pancreatic tumor. It is important to make the diagnosis preoperatively because with an adequate surgical resection the prognosis is good. A multimodalitary approach, especially magnetic resonance imaging can suggest the diagnosis without the need for biopsy.

通过试验对沙漠砂部分代替普通砂的可行性进行探讨,研究沙漠砂和玄武岩纤维的掺入对混凝土试块和钢筋混凝土梁性能的影响。对普通砂混凝土梁、沙漠砂混凝土梁、玄武岩纤维普通砂混凝土梁、玄武岩纤维沙漠砂混凝土梁进行了受弯性能试验,得出了试验梁的荷载-挠度曲线、裂缝分布和破坏模式。之后,利用现有理论公式,计算混凝土试块的劈裂抗拉强度、轴心抗压强度、弹性模量和试验梁的屈服弯矩、极限弯矩。结果表明:天然沙漠砂部分代替普通砂是可行的;沙漠砂和玄武岩纤维的掺入没有使混凝土试块和钢筋混凝土梁的性能发生本质性改变;沙漠砂和玄武岩纤维掺入后,混凝土试块和钢筋混凝土梁的计算准则仍旧适用。

Recent innovations in bone tissue engineering have introduced biomaterials that generate oxygen to substitute *** strategy provides the immediate oxygen required for tissue viability and graft *** we demonstrate a novel oxygen-generating tissue scaffold with predictable oxygen release kinetics and modular material *** hydrogel scaffolds were reinforced with microparticles comprised of emulsified calcium peroxide(CaO_(2))within polycaprolactone(PCL).The alterations of the assembled materials produced constructs within 5±0.81 kPa to 34±0.9 kPa in mechanical *** mass swelling ratios varied between 11%and 25%.Our in vitro and in vivo results revealed consistent tissue viability,metabolic activity,and osteogenic differentiation over two *** optimized in vitro cell culture system remained stable at pH *** in vivo rodent models demonstrated that these scaffolds support a 70 mm^(3) bone volume that was comparable to the native bone and yielded over 90%regeneration in critical size cranial ***,the in vivo bone remodeling and vascularization results were validated by tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)*** promising results of this work are translatable to a repertoire of regenerative medicine applications including advancement and expansion of bone substitutes and disease models.

Hairy vetch (Vicia villosa Roth.) has been recognized as a good candidate for weed suppressive mulch in organic no-till cropping systems. In our study, the allelopathic potential of hairy vetch, fall rye (Secale cereale L.) and winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) (extracted species) were evaluated at both vegetative and reproductive developmental stages (extract stage) based on the germination and radicle elongation of five response species using aqueous extracts in soil microcosms. Our study found hairy vetch shoot extract to have little allelopathic potential compared to fall rye or winter wheat, both species for which the allelopathic potential is well documented. Interestingly, hairy vetch was the only extracted species to increase in allelopathic suppression of radicle elongation at the reproductive stage when plant biomass is near maximum. This result was conceivably due to the increased concentration of the putative allelochemical cyanamide in reproductive tissue. Chemical inhibition of radicle elongation in this extract, however, was only observed in the domesticated response species wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and canola (Brassica napus L.). The allelopathic effect on germination varied and depended on extracted species, extract stage, and response species;whereas the effect on radicle elongation was similar among extracted species, yet unique within response species. This research demonstrated that allelopathy studies should include multiple allelopathic and response species to accurately quantify the magnitude of chemical effects among allelopathic species and to rule out potential phytotoxic chemical defense/detoxification mechanisms that exist in some response species.

Endocarditis Due to Vancomycin-Resistant <i>Enterococccus gallinarum</i>in a Patient with End-Stage Renal Failure: A Case Report

The first described vancomycin resistant enterococci (VRE) was about twenty years ago. Recently VRE have been reported by many clinics. However endocarditis due to VRE is still a rare entity and there are only a few cases reported in the literature. We are reporting a 59-year-old male patient with chronic renal failure who was on hemodialysis. He presented with a sudden onset of fever, tachycardia and respiratory distress. The performed echocardiography revealed vegetations on the mitral and aortic valves. As he was diagnosed to have infective endocarditis the patient was put on ampicillin and gentamicin therapy. He underwent an emergent mitral and aortic valve surgery due to ensued heart failure. While he was still on ampicillin and gentamicin therapy, E. gallinarum, which was resistant to vancomycin (MIC = 8 mg/L), was isolated from the surgical valve specimens and hence his antibiotic regime was switched to teicoplanin (MIC < 0.5 mg/L). 28 days after teicoplanin therapy the patient was discharged with free of symptoms and any complication. This patient is presented as an example for an endocarditis with an unusual type of enterococci.
