Objective:To determine the polymorphisms of Interleukin-10(IL-10)(-592,-1082) in pulmonary tuberculosis(PTB)with and without type 2 diabetes(T2D).Methods:We studied a Mexican mestizo population of 37 patients with TB in remission(TBr) and 40 with active pulmonary TB (PTB),21 patients with TB + T2D.47 blood donors accepted,and 13 healthy health-care workers with tuberculin skin lest *** of IL-10 polymorphisms was performed by real-lime Polymerase chain ***:IL-10-592C/A presented in a greater proportion in healthy individuals than in patients with type 2 diabetes and TB in a not quite significant statistically ***-10-1082A/A presented more frequently in the group of patients with both diseases,not being statistically significant in comparison with the group of healthy subjects. Conclusions:This study describes two important new ***,it reveals that the IL-10 (-592 A/A and -592 C/C) polymorphisms were found in a greater proportion in a group of patients with T2D and TB than in healthy ***,the study provides evidence that the(-1082 G/G) polymorphism presented with greater frequency in healthy individuals than in patients with both ol these diseases.

Mountains are paramount for exploring biodiversity patterns due to the mosaic of topographies and climates encompassed over short *** research has traditionally focused on taxonomic diversity when investigating changes along elevational gradients,but other facets should be *** first time,we simultaneously assessed elevational trends in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity of woody plants in Andean tropical montane forests and explored their underlying ecological and evolutionary *** investigation covered four transects(traversing ca.2200 m a.s.l.) encompassing 114 plots of 0.1 ha across a broad latitudinal range(ca.10°).Using Hill numbers to quantify abundance-based diversity among 37,869 individuals we observed a consistent decrease in taxonomic,functional,and phylogenetic diversity as elevation increased,although the decrease was less pronounced for higher Hill *** exception was a slight increase in phylogenetic diversity when dominant species were *** decrease in taxonomic and functional diversity might be attributed to an environmental filtering process towards highlands,where the increasingly harsher conditions exclude species and functional ***,the differences in steepness decrease between Hill orders suggest that rare species disproportionately contribute to functional *** phylogenetic diversity the shifting elevational trend between Hill orders indicates a greater than previously considered influence in central Andean highlands of tropical lowlands originated species with strong niche conservatism relative to distantly related temperate *** could be explained by a decreasing presence and abundance of temperate,extratropical taxa towards the central Andes relative to northern or southern Andes,where they are more prevalent.

Effective thermal conductivity of soils can be enhanced to achieve higher efficiencies in the operation of shallow geothermal *** cementation is a ground improvement technique that can increase the interparticle contact area,leading to a high effective thermal ***,cementation may occur at different locations in the soil matrix,*** contacts,evenly or unevenly around particles,in the pore space or a combination of *** topology of cementation at the particle scale and its influence on soil response have not been studied in detail to ***,soils are made of particles with different shapes,but the impact of particle shape on the cementation and the resulting change of effective thermal conductivity require further *** this work,three kinds of sands with different particle shapes were selected and cementation was formed either evenly around the particles,or along the direction parallel or perpendicular to that of heat *** effective thermal conductivity of each sample was computed using a thermal conductance network *** show that dry sand with more irregular particle shape and cemented along the heat transfer direction will lead to a more efficient thermal enhancement of the soil,i.e.a comparatively higher soil effective thermal conductivity.

Over the last years,anatomical,electrophysiological and genetic studies have carefully dissected the pathways connecting the brain and the spinal *** and Kuypers（1968）described the organization of the descending motor pathways in the non-human primate spinal *** there are some differences between species regarding the precise anatomical location of each spinal pathway and the selective connectivity onto spinal interneurons and motoneurons, the pattern of organization described is con- served among the mammalian spinal cord （Courtine et al., 2007）. Based on their description, the major descending motor pathways are grouped depending on their anatomical origin and their termi- nal distribution pattern in the spinal grey matter. The motor cortex projects corticospinal axons to the spinal cord, which mostly run in the contralateral cord and innervate the mid and dorsal grey matter neurons.

Variation in offspring sex ratios is a central topic in animal demography and population *** studies have focused on bird species with marked sexual dimorphism and multiple-nestling broods,where the offspring sex ratio is often biased due to different individual or environmental ***,biases in offspring sex ratios have been far less investigated in monomorphic and single-egg laying species,and few studies have evaluated long-term and large-scale variations in the sex ratio of nestling ***,we explore individual and environmental factors potentially affecting the secondary sex ratio of the monomorphic griffon vulture Gyps *** used information collected at three breeding nuclei from central Spain over a 30-year period(1990–2020)to analyse the effects of nestling age,parental age,breeding phenology,conspecific density,population reproductive parameters,and spatial and temporal variability on nestling *** ratio did not differ from parity either at the population or the nuclei *** significant between-year differences were detected,even under highly changing conditions of food availability associated with the mad-cow *** found that tree nesting breeders tend to have more sons than daughters,but as this nesting behavior is rare and we consequently have a small sample size,this issue would require additional *** further research is needed to assess the potential effect of breeder identity on nestling sex ratio,this study contributes to understanding the basic ecology and population dynamics of Griffon Vultures,a long-lived species with deferred maturity and low fecundity,whose minor deviations in the offspring sex ratio might imply major changes at the population level.

Design and optimization of supersonic turbines for detonation combustors

Detonation-based engines offer a potential surge in efficiency for compact thermal power systems. However, these cycles require ad-hoc components adapted to the high outlet velocity from the detonation combustors. This paper presents the design methodology of turbine stages suitable for supersonic inlet conditions and provides a detailed analysis of optimized turbine geometries. A reduced-order solver examines the supersonic blade rows’ functional design space, quantifies the turbine’s non-isentropic performance, and budgets the turbine loss for different optimized leading-edge designs and chord to pitch ratios. The shock-wave interactions were identified as the predominant contributor to turbine losses, and optimal pitch-chord ratios were determined for various inlet Mach numbers. Finally, with this tool, the specific-power output for a wide range of design configurations was computed;and the metal angle that ensures flow starting and maximizes power extraction was calculated. The detailed numerical study describes the flow interactions in a supersonic turbine and offers new correlations to guide the design of future supersonic turbines.

Carotenoids are diet-based micronutrients important in health and coloration *** species with similar diets can differ in the kinds and levels of circulating carotenoids,which suggests specific physiological mechanisms to efficiently utilize these micronutrients,regardless of their *** explored whether diet and parental provisioning of unusual sources of carotenoids(fresh vegetal matter and vertebrate feces)can explain the occurrence and concentrations of carotenoids in the cinereous vulture Aegypius monachus,griffon vulture Gyps fulvus,and Egyptian vulture Neophron percnopterus nestlings,even when these pigments appear to not be deposited in their integumentary system.A greater diversity of wild prey in diet could be behind the profile of higher concentrations of carotenoids in the Egyptian vulture,the species with carotenoid-dependent coloration during adulthood,while differences in diet composition between cinereous and griffon vultures do not translate to different carotenoid *** carotenoid profile appears to not be related to the ingestion of unusual matter rich in these compounds,although the infrequent occurrence of lycopene and unidentified y-carotene-like compounds suggest that these vultures may be exploiting vegetal matter that left no identifiable unconsumed remains in the nest of Egyptian *** consumption of green plant material by griffon vultures does not result in especially high levels of carotenoids when compared to the carotenoids found in cinereous vultures,which do not consume green plant *** feces were not provisioned to Egyptian vulture nestlings,despite the fact they contain carotenoids that adults need for appropriate ***,this study indicates that diet differences alone appear insufficient to explain contrasting *** carotenoid profiles,especially since all types of food consumed are considered to be poor in carotenoids,except vegetable *** suggest that n

Recipients of solid organ transplants(SOT) and stem cell transplants(SCT) constitute a group of patients at risk for tuberculosis(TB) development. The prevalence of active TB in patients undergoing SOT is higher than in patients undergoing SCT, probably due to the shorter period of immunosuppression in the latter. We reviewed the importance of SCT in individuals with hematological malignancies. Most TB cases occur in transplant patients by reactivation of latent infection after immunosuppression, most often within the first year after transplant, leading to graft loss and in some cases, death. Relevant variables to assess the risk of TB infection in a transplant recipient include the donor's and recipient's medical histories, imaging results, microbiology and tuberculin skin test(TST) and interferon-gamma release assays(IGRA). TST is routinely performed in the donor and recipient before transplantation. If TST is > 5 mm in the recipient or > 10 mm in the donor, it is necessary to exclude active TB(pulmonary and renal). Chemopro-phylaxis is recommended in TST(+) recipients and in recipients with recent seroconversion, in donors with a history of untreated TB or in contact with an individual with active TB, if radiological images are suspicious and the IGRA is(+). The drug of choice is isoniazid. These topics are herewith reviewed.
