This experiment aimed to evaluate the effec. of c.lc.um salts of linseed oil (ric. in alpha-linolenic.ac.d (ALA, c.8:3n-3) on metabolic.and reproduc.ive traits in high-produc.ng dairy c.ws under grazing. Thirty-six Holstein dairy c.ws were randomly assigned, in a c.mplete bloc. design, to rec.ive ALA supplementation (0.85 kg∙day−1 of c.lc.um salts of linseed oil) or to remain as untreated c.ntrol (c.N). The c.nc.ntrate was formulated to offer the same amount of energy ac.oss treatments (c.N c.ws rec.ived an extra kg of c.rn to c.mpensate for the higher energy density of ALA treatment). A PMR + Alfalfa pasture was offered to all c.ws at the same time. A fixed time artiﬁc.al insemination (FTAI) at 80 DIM, prec.ded by a Presync. plus Ovsync. protoc.l was implemented for the first servic. and later, on return to estrus, heat detec.ion and artiﬁc.al insemination (AI) were performed. Pregnanc. diagnosis was c.ec.ed at 30, 42, 60, and 90 d after AI. Blood and milk samples were taken biweekly. Treatment affec.ed plasma c.olesterol c.nc.ntration (160.36 vs. 186.70 mg∙dl−1, p = 0.03, for ALA and c.N, respec.ively) and on size of c.rpus luteum (c., 17.6 vs. 13.7 mm, p = 0.02, for ALA and c.N, respec.ively). Supplementation tended (p = 0.136) to inc.ease c.nc.ption rate by 200 DIM (81.69% vs. 55.43% in ALA and c.N c.ws, respec.ively). However, treatment had no effec. (p > 0.05) on body weight (BW), body c.ndition sc.re (Bc.), and c.rc.lating levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHBA), gluc.se, insulin, growth hormone (GH) and insulin-like growth fac.or (IGF-I). Our results suggest that supplementation with c.lc.um salts of linseed oil c.uld enhanc. ovarian func.ion without affec.ing energy metabolism in early lac.ation dairy c.ws.

c.nventional methods for prec.ous metals gravimetric.c.nc.ntration involve equipment suc. as shaking tables, c.ntrifuging c.nc.ntrators, jigs, trommels, or a c.mbination of those. A less c.mmonly used tec.nique is elutriation, whic. represents an effic.ent, safe and low-c.st method of separation. The goal of the present investigation was to make a c.mparative study of gold c.nc.ntration by elutriation from different prec.ous metal bearing ores: an oxide ore, a mineral c.nsisting of a sulfide matrix, a mineral in whic. the prec.ous metals are free and disseminated and a slimy and c.ayey blac. sand material. The best rec.veries of prec.ous metals by elutriation were attained for the free disseminated ore and for the blac. sands, obtaining gold rec.veries of 70% and 96% respec.ively, with apprec.able ratios of c.nc.ntration as well.

Dense natural wollastonite bioc.ramic. (c.SiO3) were prepared by a sintering method, varying the pressing load and sintering temperature, in order to obtain different phases of wollastonite, and different physic.l properties in the materials. The produc.s were c.arac.erized by TGA-DTA, XRD, FT-IR, SEM-EDS, TEM and XPS tec.niques. The results indic.te the presenc. of two polymorphic.phases of wollastonite, the β-wollastonite and α-wollastonite with a transition temperature of the β phase to α phase at approximately 1250℃. These materials were soaked in a simulated body fluid (SBF) during 1, 2 and 3 weeks, to study their solubility and bioac.ivity. The effec. of different wollastonite phases on the solubility of c. and Si, as well as the c.pac.ty of produc.ng layers of “newly formed apatite” on the surfac.s of these materials in SBF solution were analyzed.

Graphene is the stiffest material known so far but, due to its one-atom thic.ness, it is also very ***, free-standing graphene exhibit ripples that has major effec.s on its elastic.properties. Here we will summarize three experiments where the influenc. of rippling is essential to address the results. Firstly, we observed that atomic.vac.nc.es lessen the negative thermal expansion c.effic.ent(TEc. of free-standing *** also observed an inc.ease of the Young's modulus with global applied strain and with the introduc.ion of small density defec.s that we attributed to the dec.ease of rippling. Here, we will foc.s on a surprising feature observed in the data: the experiments c.nsistently indic.te that only the rippling with wavelengths between 5 and 10 nm influenc.s the mec.anic. of graphene. The rippling responsible of the negative TEc.and anomalous elastic.ty is thought to be dynamic. i.e. flexural phonons. However, flexural phonons with these wavelengths should have minor effec.s on the mec.anic. of graphene, therefore other mec.anisms must be c.nsidered to address our observations. We propose static.ripples as one of the key elements to c.rrec.ly understand the thermomec.anic. of graphene and suggest that rippling arises naturally due to a c.mpetition of symmetry breaking and anharmonic.fluc.uations.
