Toluene degradation by a water/silicone oil mixture for the design of two phase partitioning bioreactors

Toluene degradation performances were studied in a 10 L Two-Phase Partitioning Bioreactor(TPPB).The liquid phase consisted of a mixture of water and PDMs 50(Poly Di Methyl siloxane,*** oil,viscosity of 46 m Pa·s) in the volume ratio of 75%/25%.Two series of experiments were carried out:in the first,the reactor was sequentially supplied with toluene whereas in the second,toluene was continuously *** sludge from the wastewater treatment plant of Beaurade(Rennes,France) was used at an initial concentration of 0.5 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The elimination capacity(EC) was investigated as well as the change in biomass concentration over *** biodegradation was very ef ficient(removal ef ficiency,RE=100%) for toluene flows ranging from 0.2 to 1.2 ml·h^(-1),corresponding to elimination capacities of up to 104 g·m^(-3)·h^(-1).For a toluene flow of 1.2 ml·h^(-1),the biomass concentration measured at the end of the experiment was 4.7 dry mass g·(mixture L)^(-1).The oxygen concentration in the liquid phase was clearly not a limiting factor in these operating *** on these results,an extrapolation leading to the design of a large-scale pilot TPPB can now be considered to study toluene degradation performances in industrial conditions.

Gastric mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue(MALT)lymphoma is a rare disease which is often associated with Helicobacter pylori(***)***-line treatment of stage IE and IIE localized gastric MALT lymphoma is based on the eradication of *** presence of *** resistance factors such as translocation t(11;18),peri-gastric lymph node involvement and the degree of tumor infiltration of the gastric wall;or lack of response to antibiotic therapy are two main indications to treat with definitive radiotherapy(RT).RT is an effective treatment in localized gastric MALT lymphoma.A moderate dose of 30 Gy allows a high cure rate while being well *** treatment,regular gastric endoscopic follow-up is necessary to detect a potential occurrence of gastric adenocarcinoma.

Can soil microbial diversity influence plant metabolites and life history traits of a rhizophagous insect？ A demonstration in oilseed rape

Interactions between plants and phytophagous insects play an important part in shaping the biochemical composition of plants. Reciprocally plant metabolites can influ- ence major life history traits in these insects and largely contribute to their fitness. Plant rhizospheric microorganisms are an important biotic factor modulating plant metabolites and adaptation to stress. While plant-insects or plant-microorganisms interactions and their consequences on the plant metabolite signature are well-documented, the impact of soil microbial communities on plant defenses against phytophagous insects remains poorly known. In this study, we used oilseed rape （Brassica napus） and the cabbage root fly （Delia radicum） as biological models to tackle this question. Even though D. radicum is a belowground herbivore as a larva, its adult life history traits depend on aboveground signals. We therefore tested whether soil microbial diversity influenced emergence rate and fitness but also fly oviposition behavior, and tried to link possible effects to modifications in leaf and root metabolites. Through a removal-recolonization experiment, 3 soil microbial modalities （＂high,＂＂medium,＂＂low＂） were established and assessed through amplicon sequencing of 16s and 18s ribosomal RNA genes. The ＂medium＂ modality in the rhizosphere significantly improved insect development traits. Plant-microorganism interactions were marginally associated to modulations of root metabolites profiles, which could partly explain these results. We highlighted the potential role of plant-microbial interaction in plant defenses against Delia radicum. Rhizospheric microbial communities must be taken into account when analyzing plant defenses against herbivores, being either below or aboveground.

Neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy for gastric cancer

Currently, there is no international consensus on the best treatment regimen for patients with advanced resectable gastric carcinoma. In the United states, where a limited lymph-node dissection is frequently performed, adjuvant chemoradiotherapy after surgeryis the standard treatment. In Europe, intensified perioperative chemotherapy is commonly administered. In Japan and south Korea, postoperative s-1-based adjuvant chemotherapy after surgery with D2 lymph-node dissection is the standard treatment. several ongoing trials are currently evaluating the optimal sequence of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery, as well as the place of targeted therapeutic agents in the treatment of advanced gastric carcinoma.
