Critical bone defects are considered one of the major clinical challenges in reconstructive bone *** combination of 3D printed conductive scaffolds and exogenous electrical stimulation(ES)is a potential favorable approach for bone tissue *** this study,3D conductive scaffolds made with biocompatible and biodegradable polycaprolactone(PCL)and multi-walled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs)were produced using the extrusion-based additive manufacturing to treat large calvary bone defects in *** results show that the use of PCL/MWCNTs scaffolds and ES contributes to thicker and increased bone tissue formation within the bone *** and mineralization are also significantly promoted using high concentration of MWCNTs(3 wt%)and ***,scaffolds favor the tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase(TRAP)positive cell formation,while the addition of MWCNTs seems to inhibit the osteoclastogenesis but present limited effects on the osteoclast functionalities(receptor activator of nuclear factor κβ ligand(RANKL)and osteoprotegerin(OPG)expressions).The use of ES promotes the osteoclastogenesis and RANKL expressions,showing a dominant effect in the bone remodeling *** results indicate that the combination of 3D printed conductive PCL/MWCNTs scaffold and ES is a promising strategy to treat critical bone defects and provide a cue to establish an optimal protocol to use conductive scaffolds and ES for bone tissue engineering.

Chitin powder and chitin-aerogel were prepared from shrimp wastes and used to uptake Y^(3+)from aqueous solutions and concentrate this rare earth element from phosphogypsum(PG).Chitin aerogel displays a specific surface area of 945 m^(2)/g,while chitin powder is 3.6 m^(2)/g,which largely influences its adsorption *** the adsorption in synthetic solutions,the effect of pH on Y^(3+)removal is strong for chitin powder *** contrast,no big pH influence was detected for chitin *** interactions and chelation can highlight the proposed mechanism of Y^(3+)on chitin adsorbents for the powder and ***,in addition to these interactions,pore filling/pore diffusion is the main mechanism of Y^(3+)removal in the chitin *** aerogel is efficient in concentrating 8 times the Y^(3+)from PG,a very complex *** complex chitin aerogel-Y^(3+)can be a secondary source of rare earth elements for other applications.

The present study aimed to determine whether natural dehydrated feed (DNf) can replace dry extruded feed while preserving the required daily intake, nutrient digestibility and benefits for immunity and antioxidant response in cats. The animals were divided into two groups of seven animals each. One group received DNf, and the other consumed commercial extruded dry feed (DCf). The experiment lasted 45 days and we measured daily consumption and collected blood and feces samples. The animals in the DNf group showed greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter than DCf. Cats in the DNf group had a higher volume of feces. DNf cats had lower leukocyte and granulocyte counts and cholesterol levels. Serum enzymatic antioxidant responses and non-enzymatic were higher in DNf cats. Cats in the DNf group showed lower serum acute phase proteins in addition to a tendency toward a higher concentration of transferrin than in the DCf group. fecal Escherichia coli and total coliform counts of cats fed DNf were higher than DCf. We conclude that the daily consumption of cats is adequate. This feed had greater digestibility of fiber and mineral matter, in addition to an improvement in antioxidant and immunological responses.

The Use of Secondary Grape Biomass in Beef Cattle Nutrition on Carcass Characteristics, Quality and Shelf Life of Meat

We determined whether the inclusion of 100 g/kg dry matter of grape pomace silage (GPS) and grape pomace bran (GPB) as substitutes for other traditional fiber sources in the diet of steers (Charolais x Nellore) would improve carcass characteristics, meat quality and composition, and shelf life. Twenty-four animals (248 ± 19.32 kg of initial body weight) were fed a high concentrate diet for 121 days. Carcass characteristics were measured, and the longissimus dorsi muscle was analyzed for fatty acid (fA) profile and composition. The meat was sliced and stored in air-permeable packages for 10 days. On each sampling day (d 1, 3, 7, and 10), oxidative stability, bacterial load, lipid and protein oxidation, and staining were analyzed. The experimental diets influenced the pH of cold carcasses only. The GPS group had a higher pH than the control. The GPS and GPB groups showed improved oxidant status (i.e., lower lipid peroxidation and concentrations of reactive oxygen species were in the meat of both groups than in control). On the first day of storage, the antioxidant enzyme glutathione S-transferase activity was more significant in the meat of the GPS and GPB groups than in the control. The bacterial loads in the meat were attenuated by GPS inclusion;there were lower total coliform counts and a trend toward lower counts for enterobacteria in the control group. The diets altered the fA profile of the meat;i.e., the GPB diet allowed for a more significant amount of the n-6 omegas in the meat, while the GPS diet showed a tendency for a more significant amount of n-6 and 9 omegas. Both diets (GPS and GPB) increased the amounts of long-chain fAs. The GPS diet decreased saturated fA levels. We conclude that the dietary treatments GPS and GPB are a promising alternative to maintain meat quality standards throughout in real-world retail conditions. Impact of rainfed and irrigated agriculture systems on soil carbon stock under different climate scenarios in the semi-arid region of Brazil

Understanding the dynamics of soil organic carbon(SOC) is of fundamental importance in land use and management, whether in the current researches or in future scenarios of agriculture systems considering climate change. In order to evaluate SOC stock of the three districts(Delmiro Gouveia, Pariconha, and Inhapi districts) in the semi-arid region of Brazil in rainfed and irrigated agriculture systems under different climate scenarios using the Century model, we obtained RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 climate scenarios derived from the Eta Regional Climate Model(Eta-Had GEM2-ES and Eta-MIROC5) from the National Institute for Space Research, and then input the data of bulk density, p H, soil texture, maximum temperature, minimum temperature, and rainfall into the soil and climate files of the Century model. The results of this study showed that the Eta-Had GEM2-ES model was effective in estimating air temperature in the future period. In rainfed agriculture system, SOC stock under the baseline scenario was lower than that under RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 climate scenarios, while in irrigated agriculture system, SOC stock in the almost all climate scenarios(RCP4.5 and RCP8.5) and models(Eta-Had GEM2-ES and Eta-MIROC5) will increase by 2100. The results of this study will help producers in the semi-arid region of Brazil adopt specific agriculture systems aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas emissions.

Effectiviness, Safety and Satisfaction in Teleurology

Introduction: Telemedicine has been used as a tool for improving access to health services worldwide. The aim of the present study is thus to evaluate the effectiveness of urological consultation by videoconference, perceptions regarding safety on the part of medical teams providing video consultation services and patient satisfaction after a urological appointment. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, observational, and analytical study was carried out with 50 volunteers referred from the basic health unit for a urology appointment. All patients were evaluated remotely by videoconference and in person by different urology teams. Results: The study revealed that effectiveness in terms of the degree of match between diagnoses performed by video consultation and those performed in person was 92%. The urology team’s perception regarding safety, measured using an in-house safety questionnaire, was high for both videoconferencing and in-person consultations and there was no statistical difference between the two (overall safety score for video consultation compared to in-person consultation was 9.7 ± 0.8 compared to 9.6 ± 0.8 and the p-value was 0.3 for Student’s t-test). Patient satisfaction with the appointment was similarly high for both groups, averaging 9.72 ± 0.4 among patients who attended a video consultation and 9.82 ± 0.4 among those whose consultation was conducted in person, with a p-value of 0.10478 for Student’s t-test. Conclusion: Video consultation in urology is an effective way to perform diagnoses, with high levels of perceived safety among urologists and high satisfaction rates among patients.
