Control of light emission of quantum emitters coupled to silicon nanoantenna using cylindrical vector beams

Light emission of europium(Eu^(3+))ions placed in the vicinity of optically resonant nanoantennas is usually controlled by tailoring the local density of photon states(LDOS).We show that the polarization and shape of the excitation beam can also be used to manipulate light emission,as azimuthally or radially polarized cylindrical vector beam offers to spatially shape the electric and magnetic fields,in addition to the effect of silicon nanorings(Si-NRs)used as *** photoluminescence(PL)mappings of the Eu^(3+)transitions and the Si phonon mappings are strongly dependent of both the excitation beam and the Si-NR *** experimental results of Raman scattering and photoluminescence are confirmed by numerical simulations of the near-field intensity in the Si nanoantenna and in the Eu^(3+)-doped film,*** branching ratios obtained from the experimental PL maps also reveal a redistribution of the electric and magnetic emission *** results show that it could be possible to spatially control both electric and magnetic dipolar emission of Eu^(3+)ions by switching the laser beam polarization,hence the near field at the excitation wavelength,and the electric and magnetic LDOS at the emission *** paves the way for optimized geometries taking advantage of both excitation and emission processes.

Peer-Support in Oncology: A Qualitative Study of Caregivers Perception in a Cancer Center

Nanoparticles Covered Surfaces for Post-functionalization with Aromatic Groups to Obtain Parahydrophobic Surface with High Water Adhesion （Petal Effect）

Numerous exceptional properties can be observed in nature. Among these properties, parahydrophobic feature is of in- terest. This property describes material with high adhesion with water such as rose petals or gecko foot. Such kind of surface presents a real potential for applications in the field of water harvesting systems. In this work, we report a new synthetic strategy to mimic this property. Here, we combine three strategies in one, First, a monomer is electropolymerized in order to form the starting structured surface. Then, nanoparticles are grafted on the surface to increase the structuration and consequently to create the reactive surface. Finally, the grafted surface is post-functionalized （Huisgen reaction） with various aryl alkynes to control the surface chemistry and energy. This strategy allows to reach surfaces with both very high hydrophobic properties （0= 140~） and high water adhesion. This work also includes the surface wettability, roughness and morphology investigation in order to study the impact of the starting monomer structure and post-functionalization on the surface properties.

Evaluating organic acids as alternative leaching reagents for rare earth elements recovery from NdFeB magnets

This study proposes an advanced leaching method using organic acids to recover rare earth elements(REEs)from NdFeB permanent magnets from end-of-life computers hard disk drives(HDDs).The end-oflife HDDs were first dismantled in order to recover NdFeB magnets,which were then thermally demagnetized at 350℃during 30 min before crushing in a ball mill under inert *** electron microscopy/energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(SEM/EDS)analyses performed on the NdFeB magnets show the heterogeneous structure containing the major matric phase Nd_(2)Fe_(14)B and the REEsrich phase containing Nd and Pr ***,X-ray diffraction(XRD)and Mossbauer spectroscopy(MS)analyses on the ground NdFeB magnet show that grinding NdFeB magnets under inert atmosphere helps to minimize its *** analysis shows that the composition of the ground sample is Nd:22.8 wt%,Pr:3.3 wt%,Dy:1.2 wt%,Fe:62.6 wt%,Co:1.5 wt%,B:0.9 wt%,Ni:0.6 wt%.Diagrams of speciation and equilibrium phases(E_(h) ***)were calculated to determine the predominance of the formed species in the REEs-organic acids *** influence of the organic acid type(acetic acid,formic acid,citric acid and tartaric acid),the acid concentration(10 vol%,up to saturation),and the solid/liquid(S/L)ratio(0.5%-10%)on NdFeB magnets leaching was investigated employing an optimal experimental design conceived by the statistical software *** acid(CH_(3)COOH)shows the highest leaching performance of REEs,allowing leaching yields over 90%for Nd,Dy and Pr in the acid concentration range of 1.6-10 mol/L and the S/L ratio range of 0.5%-5%at a temperature of 60℃.The results presented in this investigation suggest that REEs can be recovered from magnets of end-of-life HDDs using an eco-friendly method assisted by organic acids.

Wetting Transition from Hydrophilic to Superhydrophobic over Dendrite Copper Leaves Grown on Steel Meshes

With the development of water purification technologies,the usage of superhydrophobic meshes is increased but the fabrication of durable and cost effective superhydrophobic meshes is still ***,the formation of hierarchical copper fractals on stainless steel meshes and their superhydrophobicity without any physical or chemical modification were *** addition,the improvement of superhydrophobicity of surfaces during storing in a glass bottle for a long time(>one year)is *** structures were prepared using electrodeposition method applying cyclic voltammetry and square pulse deposition approaches on stainless steel meshes with 50μm,100μm and 200μm pore *** prepared layers are a composition of copper with varying amounts of cuprite(Cu20)depending on deposition method and mesh pore ***-prepared cyclic voltammetry layer on 100μm mesh showed the parahydrophobicity with the contact angle of 154°but a large sliding *** one-year stored samples in the glass bottle showed superhydrophobicity with the contact angles larger than 150°and sliding angles in the range of 4°-20°.The observed improvement of superhydrophobicity is a great success in the realm of industrial water purification,while most other proposed samples by the others have problems related to the durability of superhydrophobicity.

Silicon(Si)photonics has recently emerged as a key enabling technology in many application fields thanks to the mature Si process technology,the large silicon wafer size,and promising Si optical *** monolithic integration by direct epitaxy of III-V lasers and Si photonic devices on the same Si substrate has been considered for decades as the main obstacle to the realization of dense photonics *** considerable progress in the last decade,only discrete III-V lasers grown on bare Si wafers have been reported,whatever the wavelength and laser *** we demonstrate the first semiconductor laser grown on a patterned Si photonics platform with light coupled into a waveguide.A mid-IR GaSb-based diode laser was directly grown on a pre-patterned Si photonics wafer equipped with SiN waveguides clad by SiO_(2).Growth and device fabrication challenges,arising from the template architecture,were overcome to demonstrate more than 10 mw outpower of emitted light in continuous wave operation at room *** addition,around 10%of the light was coupled into the SiN waveguides,in good agreement with theoretical calculations for this butt-coupling *** work lft an important building block and it paves the way for future low-cost,large-scale,fully integrated photonic chips.

Iron- and Ferritin-Dependent Reactive Oxygen Species Distribution： Impact on Arabidopsis Root System Architecture

Iron （Fe） homeostasis is integrated with the production of reactive oxygen species （ROS）, and distribution at the root tip participates in the control of root growth. Excess Fe increases ferritin abundance, enabling the storage of Fe, which contributes to protection of plants against Fe-induced oxidative stress. AtFerl and AtFer3 are the two ferritin genes expressed in the meristematic zone, pericycle and endodermis of theAra- bidopsis thaliana root, and it is in these regions that we observe Fe stained dots. This staining disappears in the triple ferl-3-4 ferritin mutant. Fe excess decreases primary root length in the same way in wild-type and in ferl-3-4 mutant. In contrast, the Fe-mediated decrease of lateral root （LR） length and density is enhanced in ferl-3-4 plants due to a defect in LR emergence. We observe that this interaction between excess Fe, ferritin, and root system architecture （RSA） is in part mediated by the H_2O_2/O2·^- balance between the root cell proliferation and differentiation zones regulated by the UPB1 transcription factor. Meristem size is also decreased in response to Fe excess in ferritin mutant plants, implicating cell cycle arrest mediated by the ROS-activated SMR5/SMR7 cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitors pathway in the interaction between Fe and RSA.

A Consistent Set of Thermodynamic Data for Iron and Reevaluation of Green Rusts and Fougerite Solubilities

Over the last ten years, several comprehensive reviews of iron thermodynamics data were published. This work aims to：（i） propose a consistent set of Gibbs free energies （AfG~） of ferrous hydroxide, Fe（OH）*** and of synthetic Green rusts I and II; （ii） check the consistency of the data of these isostructural compounds by means of a correlation obtained with electronegativities of the anions. Experimental data are concentrations in aqueous solutions and pH, and must be processed to obtain ionic activity products （lAP）. The model of Specific Interaction Theory （SIT） was used here. Firstly, some complexes whose existences are doubtful were removed from the SIT database. The new modified database is given here. Secondly, experimental data were processed. Thirdly, the following relation of regression between Gibbs free energies of formation of Green rusts and normalized Allred-Rochow electronegativities of anions was obtained as： △fG0 = -488.354 -353.11 （x/n）, r = -0.994. This relation was then used to assess the Gibbs free energy of formation for GR1-OH, simply written as Fe3（OH）7.

<i>In vivo</i>Distribution of Inorganic Nanoparticles in Preclinical Models

Ongoing progress in nanotechnologies has led to their implementation for in vivo diagnostic and therapy. Thus, the main applications of inorganic nanoparticles are imaging for diagnosis and cell tracking, photothermal and drug-delivery therapies. Following nanoparticles in vivo administration, the systemic circulation can distribute them to every body organ and tissue. Precise characterization of nanoparticles distribution and accumulation in the different body parts in preclinical models is required before any application in humans. The biodistribution of inorganic nanoparticles has been analysed in different preclinical models, particularly mouse, rat and rabbit. This review covers the in vivo biodistribution of different inorganic nanoparticles in preclinical models: gold nanoparticles, silica nanoparticles, iron oxide magnetic nanoparticles, quantum dots and carbon nanotubes.
