This paper presents several examples of fundamental problems involving weak continuity and compactness for nonlinear partial differential equations, in which compensated compactness and related ideas have played a significant role. The compactness and convergence of vanishing viscosity solutions for nonlinear hyperbolic conservation laws are first analyzed, including the inviscid limit from the Navier-Stokes equations to the Euler equations for homentropic flow, the vanishing viscosity method to construct the global spherically symmetric solutions to the multidimensional compressible Euler equations, and the sonic-subsonic limit of solutions of the full Euler equations for multi-dimensional steady compressible fluids. Then the weak continuity and rigidity of the gauss-Codazzi-Ricci system and corresponding isometric embeddings in differential geometry are revealed. Further references are also provided for some recent developments on the weak continuity and compactness for nonlinear partial differential equations.

Background The aim of this study was to characterize the variable phenotypes and outcomes associated with the methylmalonic aciduria and homocystinuria type C protein gene(MMACHC)c.482g>A mutation in 195 Chinese cases with CblC *** We carried out a national,retrospective multicenter study of 195 Chinese patients with CblC disease attributable to the MMACHC c.482g>A variant either in a homozygous or compound heterozygous *** control group consisted of 200 patients diagnosed with CblC disease who did not possess the c.482g>A *** features,including disease onset,symptoms,biochemical metabolites,gene mutation,and follow-up outcomes were reviewed and analyzed in *** median follow-up period spanned 3 years and 8 months,with a range of 1 year and 2 months to 12 years and 10 *** Among 195 patients carrying the c.482g>A variant,125(64.1%)cases were diagnosed by newborn screening(NBS),60(30.8%)cases were detected due to disease onset,and 10(5.1%)cases were identified from sibling *** hundred and seventeen(93.6%)individuals who were diagnosed by NBS,and nine patients who came from sibling diagnoses remained asymptomatic in this *** 69 symptomatic patients of the c.482g>A group,more patients presented with later onset,and the top six common clinical symptoms at disease onset were developmental delay(59.4%),lower limb weakness and poor exercise tolerance(50.7%),cognitive decline(37.7%),gait instability and abnormal posture(36.2%),seizures(26.1%),and psychiatric and behavioral disturbances(24.6%).In the 159 symptomatic patients lacking c.482g>A variants,the most frequently observed clinical manifestations at disease onset included developmental delay(81.8%),lethargy and feeding difficulty(62.9%),lower limb weakness and poor exercise tolerance(54.7%),prolonged neonatal jaundice(51.6%),vomiting(47.2%),and seizures(32.7%).Before treatment,the levels of blood propionylcarnitine,propionylcarnitine/acetylcarnitine ratio

AIM： To determine the prognostic value of lymphatic and/or blood vessel invasion （LBVI） in patients with stage 11 gastric cancer. METHODS： From January 2001 to December 2006, 487 patients with histologically confirmed primary gas- tric adenocarcinoma were diagnosed with stage 11 gas- tric cancer according to the new 7th edition American Joint Committee on Cancer stage classification at the Department of gastric Cancer and Soft Tissue Surgery, fudan university shanghai Cancer Center. All patients underwent curative gastrectomy with standard lymph node （LN） dissection. Fifty-one patients who died in the postoperative period, due to various complications or other conditions, were excluded. Clinicopathologicalfindings and clinical outcomes were analyzed. Patients were subdivided into four groups according to the status of LBVI and LN metastases. These four patient groups were characterized with regard to age, sex, tumor site, pT category, tumor grading and surgical procedure （subtotal resection vs total resection）, and compared for 5-year overall survival by univariate and multivariate analysis. RESULTS： The study was composed of 320 men and 116 women aged 58.9 ± 11.5 years （range： 23-88 years）. The 5-year overall survival rates were 50.7% and the median survival time was 62 too. Stage Ⅱ a cancer was observed in 334 patients, including 268 T3N0, 63 T2N1, and three TIN2, and stage Ⅱb was observed in 102 patients, including 49 patients T3N1, 51 T2N2, one TIN3, and one T4aN0. The incidence of LBVI was 28.0% in stage II gastric cancer with 19.0% （51/269） and 42.5% （71/167） in LN-negative and LN- positive patients, respectively. In 218 patients （50.0%）, there was neither a histopathologically detectable LBVI nor LN metastases （LBVI-/LN-, group I）; in 51 patients （11.7%）, LBVI with no evidence of LN me- tastases was detected （LBVILN-, group 11）. Background:Transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)and percutaneous microwave coagulation therapy(PMCT)are commonly used to treat intrahepatic recurrent liver ***,there is no informa-tion regarding their effectiveness in patients with recurrent intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)after ***:A total of 275 patients with localized recurrent ICC who received either TACE(n=183)or PMCT(n=92)were studied.A propensity score matching analysis was performed to compare prognostic impact of TACE and *** factors for TACE and PMCT were identified *** nomograms for each TACE and PMCT were developed using the Cox independent prognostic factors and were validated in independent patient groups by receiver operating characteristic curves and area under curve ***:Both TACE and PMCT provided curativeness in partial patients(5-year overall survival:21.4%and 6.1%,respectively),but TACE provided better survival benefit in both overall patients(hazard ratio[HR]=0.71;95%confidence interval[CI]:0.50–0.97;P=0.034)and propensity score matching analysis(HR=0.69;95%CI:0.47–0.98;P=0.041).Independent prognostic factors for TACE were tumor size>5 cm,poor differentiation,and major resection,whereas poor differentiation,hepatitis B virus infection,cholelithiasis,and lymph node metastasis were identified for *** predictive nomograms for TACE and PMCT were validated to be effective with area under curve values of 0.77 and 0.70,***:TACE provided better survival benefits compared to ***,there was a disparity in prognostic factors,suggesting evaluation of the two nomograms may be supportive in modality *** prospective validation studies are required for the results to be applied in clinical medicine.

Objective To assess the relationship between diurnal temperature range （DTR） and sudden infant death （SID） between 2001 and 2004 in shanghai,*** We conducted a time‐stratified case‐crossover analysis to estimate the percent increase of SID associated with changes in DTR after adjustment for daily weather conditions （temperature and relative humidity） and outdoor air *** DTR was significantly associated with daily *** increase of 1 °C in the current‐day （L0） and in the 2‐day moving average （L01） DTR corresponds to a 1.56% （95% CI：0.97%,2.15%） and a 1.89% （95% CI：1.17%,2.60%） increase in SID,*** An increased DTR was associated with an increased risk of SID in *** studies are needed to understand the effect of DTR on infant deaths.

Assuming that the solution u（x, t） exists, we show that it can be represented in terms of the solution of a matrix Riemann-Hilbert problem formulated in the plane of the complex spectral parameter λ. The jump matrix has explicit（x, t） dependence and is given in terms of the spectral functions{a（λ）, b（λ）}and{A（λ）, B（λ）}, which are obtained from the initial data u0（x） = u（x, 0） and the boundary data g0（t） = u（0, t）, g1（t） = ux（0, t）, respectively. The spectral functions are not independent,but satisfy a so-called global relation.
