Effects of synthetic site water on bentonite-concrete system for a potential nuclear waste repository

In high-level nuclear waste(HLW)repositories,concrete and compacted bentonite are designed to be employed as buffer materials,which may raise a problem of interactions between concrete and *** interactions would lead to mineralogy transformation and buffer performance decay of bentonite under the near field environment conditions in a repository.A small-scale experimental setup was established to simulate the concrete-bentonite-site water interaction system from a potential nuclear waste repository in *** types of mortars were prepared to correspond to the concrete at different degradation *** results permit the determination of the following:(1)The macroproperties of Gaomiaozi(GMZ)bentonite(*** pressure,permeability,the final dry density,and water content of reacted samples);(2)The composition evolution of fluids from the synthetic site water-concrete-bentonite interaction systems;(3)The sample characterization including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)and X-ray powder diffraction(XRD).Under the infiltration of the synthesis Beishan site water(BSW),the swelling pressure of bentonite decreases slowly with time after reaching its second swelling *** flux decreases with time during the infiltrations,and it tends to be stable after more than 120 *** to the cation exchange reactions in the BSW-concrete-bentonite systems,the divalent cations(Ca and Mg)were consumed,and the monovalent cations(Na and K)were *** dissolution of minerals in the bentonite such as albite causes Si increasing in the pore *** was concluded that the hydro-mechanical property degradation of bentonite takes place when it comes into contact with concrete mortar,even under low-pH groundwater *** soil dispersion,the uneven water content,and the uneven dry density in bentonite samples may partly contribute to the swelling decay of ***,the direct contact with concrete has an obvious effect on the performance

Hepatic steatosis is associated with dysregulated cholesterol metabolism and altered protein acetylation dynamics in chickens

Background Hepatic steatosis is a prevalent manifestation of fatty liver, that has detrimental effect on the health and productivity of laying hens, resulting in economic losses to the poultry industry. Here, we aimed to systematically investigate the genetic regulatory mechanisms of hepatic steatosis in laying *** Ninety individuals with the most prominent characteristics were selected from 686 laying hens according to the accumulation of lipid droplets in the liver, and were graded into three groups, including the control, mild hepatic steatosis and severe hepatic steatosis groups. A combination of transcriptome, proteome, acetylome and lipidome analyses, along with bioinformatics analysis were used to screen the key biological processes, modifications and lipids associated with hepatic *** The rationality of the hepatic steatosis grouping was verified through liver biochemical assays and RNA-seq. Hepatic steatosis was characterized by increased lipid deposition and multiple metabolic abnormalities. Integration of proteome and acetylome revealed that differentially expressed proteins(DEPs) interacted with differentially acetylated proteins(DAPs) and were involved in maintaining the metabolic balance in the liver. Acetylation alterations mainly occurred in the progression from mild to severe hepatic steatosis, i.e., the enzymes in the fatty acid oxidation and bile acid synthesis pathways were significantly less acetylated in severe hepatic steatosis group than that in mild group(P < 0.05). Lipidomics detected a variety of sphingolipids(SPs) and glycerophospholipids(GPs) were negatively correlated with hepatic steatosis(r ≤-0.5, P < 0.05). Emerging memristors and applications in reservoir computing

Recently, with the emergence of ChatGPT, the field of artificial intelligence has garnered widespread attention from various sectors of society. Reservoir Computing (RC) is a neuromorphic computing algorithm used to analyze time-series data. Unlike traditional artificial neural networks that require the weight values of all nodes in the trained network, RC only needs to train the readout layer. This makes the training process faster and more efficient, and it has been used in various applications, including speech recognition, image classification, and control systems. Its flexibility and efficiency make it a popular choice for processing large amounts of complex data. A recent research trend is to develop physical RC, which utilizes the nonlinear dynamic and short-term memory properties of physical systems (photonic modules, spintronic devices, memristors, etc.) to construct a fixed random neural network structure for processing input data to reduce computing time and energy. In this paper, we introduced the recent development of memristors and demonstrated the remarkable data processing capability of RC systems based on memristors. Not only do they possess excellent data processing ability comparable to digital RC systems, but they also have lower energy consumption and greater robustness. Finally, we discussed the development prospects and challenges faced by memristors-based RC systems.

The in vitro digestion fates of diacylglycerol under different intestinal conditions:a potential lipid source for lipid indigestion patients

Interactions of phenol and benzaldehyde in electrocatalytic upgrading process

Biomass pyrolysis oil can be improved effectively by electrocatalytic hydrogenation(ECH).However,the unclear interactions among different components lead to low bio-oil upgrading efficiency in the conversion ***,benzaldehyde and phenol,as common compounds in bio-oil,were chosen as model *** interactions between the two components were explored in the ECH process by combining experiments and theoretical *** showed that phenol could accelerate the conversion of benzaldehyde in the *** selectivity of benzyl alcohol was increased from 60.9%of unadded phenol to 99.1%with 30 mmol/L phenol concentration at 5 *** inhibited the ECH of *** the presence of benzaldehyde,the conversion rate of phenol was below 10.0%with no cyclohexanone and cyclohexanol formation at 5 *** density functional theory(DFT)calculations revealed that the phenol could promote the adsorption of benzaldehyde and facilitate the targeted conversion of benzaldehyde on the active site by lowering the reaction energy *** research on the interaction between phenol and benzaldehyde in the ECH provides a theoretical basis for the application of ECH in practical bio-oil upgrading.

The East Zhejiang Canal is an artificial waterway located in the plains of East *** of its role in providing social services,it is frequently subjected to human activities affecting its *** improve the water resource management and condition of this canal,assessment of its ecological health is *** measured water quality variables and benthic diatom and macroinvertebrate assemblages to evaluate the ecological status of the *** found that the canal was eutrophic with an average chemical trophic level index of 64.3 and an average trophic diatom index of 68.1(with Nitzschia palea,Melosira varians,and Navicula rostellata,Encyonema minutum abundant).Macroinvertebrate assemblages also showed that the canal was eutrophic based on the dominance of Limnodrilus sp.A low BMWP(Biological Monitoring Working Party)score further indicated the poor water quality of the *** analysis indicated that phosphorus was the main driver of eutrophication in the ***,more attention should be paid to reduce phosphorus loadings.

KCNA1 is the coding gene for Kv1.1 voltage-gated potassium-channelα*** variants of KCNA1 have been reported to manifest as paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia(PKD),but the correlation between them remains unclear due to the phenotypic complexity of KCNA1 variants as well as the rarity of PKD *** the whole exome sequencing followed by Sanger sequencing,we screen for potential pathogenic KCNA1 variants in patients clinically diagnosed with paroxysmal movement disorders and identify three previously unreported missense variants of KCNA1 in three unrelated Chinese *** proband of one family(c.496G>A,p.A166T)manifests as episodic ataxia type 1,and the other two(c.877G>A,p.V293I and c.1112C>A,p.T371A)manifest as *** pathogenicity of these variants is confirmed by functional studies,suggesting that p.A166T and p.T371A cause a loss-of-function of the channel,while p.V293I leads to a gain-of-function with the property of voltage-dependent gating and activation kinetic *** reviewing the locations of PKD-manifested KCNA1 variants in Kv1.1 protein,we find that these variants tend to cluster around the pore domain,which is similar to ***,our study strengthens the correlation between KCNA1 variants and PKD and provides more information on genotype–phenotype correlations of KCNA1 channelopathy.

Traffic safety helmet wear detection based on improved YOLOv5 network

Aiming at the problem that the current traffic safety helmet detection model can’t balance the accuracy of detection with the size of the model and the poor generalization of the model， a method based on improving YOLOv5 is proposed. By incorporating the lightweight GhostNet module into the YOLOv5 backbone network， we effectively reduce the model size. The addition of the Receptive Fields Block (RFB) module enhances feature extraction and improves the feature acquisition capability of the lightweight model. Subsequently， the high-performance lightweight convolution， GSConv， is integrated into the neck structure for further model size compression. Moreover， the baseline model’s loss function is substituted with EIoU， accelerating network convergence and enhancing detection precision. Experimental results corroborate the effectiveness of this improved algorithm in real-world traffic scenarios.
