Aim: The rationale and technique underlying a novel concept of non-invasive removal of an intravasal vas deferens poly-meric contraceptive drug to reverse drag injection-induced azoospermia are explained. Thus the conventional methods ofsurgical exploration to remove vas deferens plugs and intravasal injection of solvents to flush out contraceptive drugs are tobe replaced by steps which will be readily accepted by subjects. Methods: The approach is based upon the non-invasiveapplication of specific forces to various segments of the vas deferens so that non-sclerosing and non-tissue-adherent com-pounds, in particular styrene maleic anhydride (SMA) can be expelled. Forces are generated by palpation; percuta-neous electrical stimulation; vibration application; and percussion. The forces help to propel the intravasal polymer to-wards the ejaculatory duct for expulsion during ejaculation. All aspects of the total technique are clinically acceptable,simple, atraumatic, unlikely to cause pain and discomfort even without tranquilizers, local or general anaesthetics. Theprocedure may be repeated several times in different sittings spaced apart by about one week to achieve adequate plug ex-pulsion. Results: Model experiments demonstrated the feasibility of the concept. The polymer was nonadherent andcould be moved within the vas deferens by the application of specific forces. Sufficient removal was possible to enablespermatic fluid to be transported along a region previously occupied by the polymer. A corroborating subhuman primatestudy by an independent investigator has shown that the semen profile becomes normal following the reversal. Conclu-sion: Adoption of the new technique may provide a means of non surgical restoration of normal semen profile after a pe-riod of fertility control obtained by intravasal drag injection. Suitable disposal pathways of waste plastics and coal fly ash have yet not been established which is a matter of great envi-ronmental *** low-density polyethylene(LDPE)and high-density polyethylene(HDPE)were degraded using a semi-batch reactor along with acid or alkali modified fly ash *** high yield of liquid fuel product(about 87.24 wt%)was achieved for low-density polyethylene at a polymer and catalyst ratio of 25 w/*** 96%conversion was found with very few amount of gaseous *** of the waste plastics were degraded at 400-450℃.The liquid products were analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),nuclear magnetic resonance(^(1)H,^(13)C,and DEPT-135 NMR),and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry(GC-MS).Fly ash is an efficient catalyst to degrade waste plastic into light weight liquid(gasoline and kerosene)*** NMR results accompanied by GC-MS data ensure that obtained fuels contain both aliphatic(saturated and unsaturated)and aromatic *** plastic-to-fuel technology should be commercialized owing to be profitable and eco-friendly.

For the effect of thermal treatment on the mode-I fracture toughness(FT), three crystalline rocks(two basalts and one tonalite) were experimentally investigated. Semi-circular bend specimens of the rocks were prepared following the method suggested by the International Society for Rock Mechanics(ISRM)and were treated at various temperatures ranging from room temperature(25 ℃) to 600 ℃. Mode-I FT was correlated with tensile strength(TS), ultrasonic velocities, and Young’s modulus(YM). Additionally,petrographic and X-ray diffraction analyses were carried out to find the chemical changes resulting from the heat treatment. Further, scanning electron microscopy(SEM) was conducted to observe the micro structural changes when subjected to high temperatures. These experiments demonstrate that heat treatment has a strong negative impact on the FT and mechanical properties of the rocks. From room temperature to 600 ℃, mode-I FT values of massive basalt, giant plagioclase basalt, and tonalite were reduced by nearly 52%, 68%, and 64%, respectively. Also, at all temperature levels, FT and mechanical properties are found to be exponentially correlated. However, the exact nature of the relationship mainly depends on rock type. Besides, TS was found to be a better indicator of degradation degree than the mode-I FT. SEM images show that micro crack density and structural disintegration of the mineral grains increase with temperature. These physical changes confirm the observed reduction in the stiffness of heat-treated crystalline rocks.

The Donalda gold deposit in the southern part of the Archean Abitibi greenstone belt consists mainly of a subhonzontal gold-quartz vein perpendicular to subvertical shear *** 0.3—0.5 m thick vein is characterized by vein-parallel banding structures indicating multiple episodes of fracture opening and mineral *** of the c-axis of primary growth quartz indicates that quartz preferentially grew perpendicular to the fracture,suggesting open space filling and/or extensional nature of the *** of the orientations of microfractures,veinlets and fluid—inclusion planes（FIPs） crosscutting primary growth quartz indicates that the vein minerals were subject to a vertical maximum principal stress（σ_1）,which is inconsistent with the subhorizontalσ_1 inferred from the regional stress field with N—S *** apparent discrepancy is explained by invoking episodic fluid pressure fluctuation between supralithostatic and hydrostatic regimes accompanied by episodic opening and closing of the sub-horizontal *** fluid pressure was higher than the lithostatic value,the fracture was opened and primary growth minerals were precipitated,whereas when fluid pressure decreased toward the hydrostatic value,the hanging wall of the fracture collapsed,causing collision of protruding primary growth minerals from both sides of the fracture and resulting in formation of vein-parallel deformation *** columns where the two facing sides of the fracture collided were subject to higher-than-lithostatic stress due to the bridging effect and reduced support surface area,explaining the development of verticalσ_*** hypothesis is consistent the fault-valve model,and explains the flipping ofσ_1 without having to change the regional stress field.

Isolated ovarian tissues from the common carp, Cyprinus carpio were incubated in vitro to obtain a discrete effect of four common toxicants of industrial origin, namely phenol, sulfide, mercuric chloride and cadmium chloride, on gonadotropin-induced alteration of nonesterified and esterified cholesterol and steroidogenic enzymes, △5-3β-HSD and 17β-HSD activity. Stage II ovarian tissue containing 30-40% mature oocytes were shown to be most responsive to gonadotropins in depleting only nonesterified cholesterol moiety and stimulating the activity of both. Safe doses of above mentioned toxicants when added separately to stage II ovarian tissue with oLH (1 μg/incubation) gonadotropin-induced depletion of nonesterified cholesterol and gonadotropin-induced stimulation of the activity of both enzymes was significantly inhibited. Esterified cholesterol remained almost unaltered. Findings clearly indicate the impairment of gonadotropin induced fish ovarian steroidogenesis by the four toxicants separately.

The reactivation of trace elements in source rocks is fundamental in the formation of many economic deposits. Although transport by fluid flow and infiltration is very effective along visible fractures, the migration of trace elements from the inner part of solid cells to the weaknesses is much less efficient, and so becomes the bottleneck in the migration of these elements from their initial positions in the source rock to the final deposition site in an ore body. Diffusion may play a key role in the reactivation of trace elements. The overall migration pattern of trace elements in source rocks is characterized by an embedded sink mosaic structure, which possesses the self-similarity of a fractal. There are two general migration tendencies of trace elements. One is from within solid cells, such as mineral grains, toward the sink, consisting of weaknesses in the source rock. The other is from high-temperature fields toward low-temperature ones. High temperature favors the realization of these two tendencies. Conjugate geochemical anomalies are the inevitable result of a closed system.

Tectonic juxtaposition of crust and continental growth during orogenesis: Example from the Rengali Province, eastern India

The southern houndary of the Singhbhum Craton witnessed multiple orogenies that juxtaposed thin slice of granulite suite of the Rengali Province against the low-grade granite-greenstone belt of the craton along the E-W trending Sukinda Thrust. The strong southerly dipping mylonitic foliation within the granulites along with the pronlinent down-dip mineral lineation, suggest a northerly-verging thrusting. Mylonitized charnockite at the contact zone contains enclaves of mafic and ultranlafic granulite, whereas granitoid gneiss contains enclaves of pelitic granulite. Mafic granulite enclaves preserve an early （SiM） foliation that formed during DiM deformation. This rock, along with the host charnockite, were intensely deformed by the D2M thrusting event and resulting S2M foliation development in both rock suites. Geothermobaronietric and pseudosection analyses show that the garnet-clinopyroxene-plagioclase- orthopyroxene-ihllenite-quartz assemblage in mafic granulite was stabilized at high-pressure and temperature conditions （10 12 kbar, 860 C） and was overprinted by a fine-grained assemblage of cli- nopyroxene-plagioclase J hornblende that developed during deconlpression （down to 5.5-7.5 I〈bar）. Matrix hornblende shows incipient breakdown to garnet-clinopyroxene-quartz intergrowth due to a granulite facies reworking. A contrasting P-T history is preserved in the pelitic granulite. The peak assemblage garnet-orthopyroxene-cordierite-quartz-rutile was stabilized at -6.0 kbar, 730 C which resulted flom heating of the mid crust magma during the D2M thrusting. The contrasting P-T histories could result flonl the tectonic juxtaposition of lowerand mid-crustal section during the D2M event. Evidences of an early orogenic imprint within the mafic granulite imply involvement of deep continental crust during southward growth of the Singhbhum Craton.

THE environmental geochemistry problems during the processes of mining activities are intensively considered by scientists worldwide, and the hydrogeochemistry presents an important implication of toxic metalcontamination related to mining activities. The hydrogeochemistry due to mining activities and naturalmineralized processes present some differences whose comparison can indicate a good understanding of theinfluence of mining on the environment. This ongoing study aims at the hydrogeochemistry of toxic metals in the Au-As-Hg-Tl metallogenicbelt of Huijiabao anticline in southwest Guizhou, China. The presently-mined Lanmuchang mercury-thallium deposit with a Hg-mining history of about 350 years containing one of the world’s highest concentration of thallium and the to-be-mined Yanshang gold deposit enriching high concentration of toxic metals have been chosen to study the hydrogeochemistry of toxic metals. The groundwater samples werecollected from the shallow aquifer in terms of spring, domestic well and karstic cave whereas the surfacewater was only sampled downside the surface drainage leaching the mine waste at Lanmuchang.
