Multiple-scale temporal variations and fluxes near a hydrothermal vent over the Southwest Indian Ridge

A deep-ocean mooring system was deployed 100 m away from an active hydrothermal vent over the Southwest Indian Ridge （SWIR）, where the water depth is about 2,800 m. One year of data on ocean temperature 50 m away from the ocean floor and on velocities at four levels （44 m, 40 m, 36 m, and 32 m away from the ocean floor） were collected by the mooring system. Multiple- scale variations were extracted from these data： seasonal, tidal, super-tidal, and eddy scales. The semidiumal tide was the strongest tidal signal among all the tidal constituents in both currents and temperature. With the multiple-scale variation presented in the data, a new method was developed to decompose the data into five parts in terms of temporal scales： time-mean, seasonal, tidal, super-tidal, and eddy. It was shown that both eddy and tidal heat （momentum） fluxes were characterized by variation in the bottom topography： the tidal fluxes of heat and momentum in the along-isobath direction were much stronger than those in the cross-isobath direction. For the heat flux, eddy heat flux was stronger than tidal heat flux in the cross-isobath direction, while eddy heat flux was weaker in the along-isobath direction. For the momentum flux, the eddy momentum flux was weaker than tidal momentum flux in both directions. The eddy momen^m fluxes at the four levels had a good relationship with the magnitude of mean currents： it increased with the mean current in an exponential relationship.

Hemodynamic characteristics such as blood velocity,blood pressure,flow impingement,wall shear stress and oscillatory shear index are considered to play important roles in the initiation,growth,rupture and recurrence of the cerebral *** therapy is widely implemented to treat the cerebral aneurysms by releasing coils into the aneurysm sac for limiting the blood flow to the sac and stent-assisted coil embolization is adopted to occlude the wide-necked or complex *** researchers believe that stents are not only a mechanical device but may act as a biological system and contribute to vessel wall *** simulation helps people understand the effect of hemodynamic characteristics on the recurrence of the coiled aneurysm and it also benefits the interventional planning of *** study constructed the numerical model for a subject-specific ICA aneurysm treated with stent-assisted coil embolization,which combined the coiled model of the aneurysm with a porous stent placement,and simulated the pulsatile blood flow in these aneurysm *** a stent was placed across the aneurysm orifice in the coiled aneurysm,the high wall shear stress around the distal aneurysm root was reduced more than that of the coiled aneurysm without a *** simulated results point to the conclusion that the stent not only protects the parent artery from occlusion due to extension of coils or thrombosis,but may also reduce the recurrence risk of the stent-assisted coiled aneurysm.

This paper studies the optimal fault tolerant control （FTC） problem for polynomial systems with guaranteed cost in the presence of actuator faults. The consider fault mode is a multi-model framework of the typical aberration in actuator effectiveness. To transform the FTC design problem into a semi-definite programming （SDP）, a novel technique is presented by optimizing an index of the effect of the nonlinear terms in the formulated HJI inequalities. Combined with other performance indexes, the multiobjective optimization problem can be numerically computed by using sum of squares method （SOS） in a reliable and efficient way. A numerical example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper proposes a three-stage estimation algorithm for identification and fault diagnose of closed-loop linear systems of gas turbine engines with unknown time delay, which can be used for estimating parameters of systems and faults. By means of calculating the ratio of data determinant, the orders of time delay and the system are simultaneously estimated in the first stage. Then a two-stage least square identification method is applied to estimating the parameters and fault of an auxiliary CARMA model with time delay has been calculated. The proposed algorithm has lower computational cost and is effective for gas turbine engine systems with unknown time delay. Finally, a numerical example of biaxial gas turbine engine system is given to shown the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Effects of mesoscale eddies on the internal solitary wave propagation

The mesoscale eddy and internal wave both are phenomena commonly observed in oceans. It is aimed to investigate how the presence of a mesoscale eddy in the ocean affects wave form deformation of the internal solitary wave propagation. An ocean eddy is produced by a quasi-geostrophic model in f-plane, and the one-dimensional nonlinear variable-coefficient extended Korteweg-de Vries （eKdV） equation is used to simulate an internal solitary wave passing through the mesoscale eddy field. The results suggest that the mode structures of the linear internal wave are modified due to the presence of the mesoscale eddy field. A cyclonic eddy and an anticyclonic eddy have different influences on the background environment of the internal solitary wave propagation. The existence of a mesoscale eddy field has almost no prominent impact on the propagation of a smallamplitude internal solitary wave only based on the first mode vertical structure, but the mesoscale eddy background field exerts a considerable influence on the solitary wave propagation if considering high-mode vertical structures. Furthermore, whether an internal solitary wave first passes through anticyclonic eddy or cyclonic eddy, the deformation of wave profiles is different. Many observations of solitary internal waves in the real oceans suggest the formation of the waves. Apart from topography effect, it is shown that the mesoscale eddy background field is also a considerable factor which influences the internal solitary wave propagation and deformation.

Effect of hydrogen on grain boundary migration in tungsten

Motivated by a grain boundary(GB) healing mechanism that GB turns into a mobile sink through migration to eliminate the vacancies in a bulk, we have further investigated the influence of the retained hydrogen(H) on the GB migration in tungsten using a molecular dynamics simulation. We show that H hinders the GB migration at different H concentrations and temperatures, and such friction of GB migration due to the presence of H increases with the H concentration and decreases with temperature. We demonstrate that H follows the GB-migration as the temperature is higher than 300 K. Most importantly, the presence of H induces a disordering of GB, which affects the GB migration significantly.

The objective of this work was to investigate the effects of oxidation and Maillard reaction on free and protein-bound N^ε-carboxymethyllysine(CML)and Nε-carboxyethyllysine(CEL)formation during braised chicken *** was found that a positive correlation was observed between carbonyl,fat oxidation,Maillard reaction,CML and CEL(P<0.05).The sulfhydryl groups could be used as potential indicators to evaluate the compounds’interaction levels between Maillard reaction and protein *** promoted the formation of lysine(Lys),glyoxal(GO)and methylglyoxal(MGO)(P<0.05);boiling enhanced the formation of GO and MGO(P<0.05)while inhibited the levels of Lys(P<0.05);sterilizing blocked the formation of MGO and Lys(P<0.01)but improved GO levels(P<0.05).Finally,a perspective was concluded that the Maillard reaction combined with oxidation is one of the main reasons for the formation of free and protein-bound CML and CEL during braised chicken processing.

Aero-engine is a typical nonlinear system, and the main fuel control system is the core of the engine control system . In this paper, based on some turbofan aero-engine, through the simple mechanism analysis of the main fuel control system, we obtain the order of the linear part of the model, by using the least squares method to identify the linear model. Then through the nonlinear compensation mechanism and use Sigmoid BP neural network to identify the nonlinear model, and finally we get a more precise main fuel control system model.

To decode the pilot’s behavioral awareness,an experiment is designed to use an aircraft simulator obtaining the pilot’s physiological behavior *** pilot behavior studies such as behavior modeling methods based on domain experts and behavior modeling methods based on knowledge discovery do not proceed from the characteristics of the pilots *** experiment starts directly from the multimodal physiological characteristics to explore pilots’***,electrocardiogram,and eye movement were recorded *** multimodal features of ground missions,air missions,and cruise mission were trained to generate support vector machine behavior model based on supervised *** results showed that different behaviors affects different multiple rhythm features,which are power spectra of theθwaves of EEG,standard deviation of normal to normal,root mean square of standard deviation and average gaze *** different physiological characteristics of the pilots could also be distinguished using an SVM ***,the multimodal physiological data can contribute to future research on the behavior activities of *** result can be used to design and improve pilot training programs and automation interfaces.

Study of rapid face modeling technology based on Kinect

This paper improves the algorithm of point cloud filtering and registration in 3D modeling,aiming for smaller sampling error and shorter processing time of point cloud *** on collaborative sampling among several Kinect devices,we analyze the deficiency of current filtering algorithm,and use a novel method of point cloud ***,we use Fast Point Feature Histogram(FPFH)algorithm for feature extraction and point cloud *** with the aligning process using Point Feature Histograms(PFH),it only takes 9min when the number of points is about 500,000,shortening the aligning time by 47.1%.To measure the accuracy of the registration,we propose an algorithm which calculates the average distance of the corresponding coincident parts of two point clouds,and we improve the accuracy to an average distance of *** the surface reconstruction section,we adopt Ball Pivoting algorithm for surface reconstruction,obtaining image with higher accuracy in a shorter time.
