Performance evaluation framework of Wyoming connected vehicle pilot deployment program: summary of Phase 2 pre-deployment efforts and lessons learned

Purpose–This paper aims to present a summary of the performance measurement and evaluation plan of the Wyoming connected vehicle(CV)Pilot Deployment Program(WYDOT Pilot).Design/methodology/approach–This paper identiﬁed 21 speciﬁc performance measures as well as approaches to measure the beneﬁts of the WYDOT *** overview of the expected challenges that might introduce confounding factors to the evaluation effort was outlined in the performance management plan to guide the collection of system performance ***–This paper presented the data collection approaches and analytical methods that have been established for the real-life deployment of the WYDOT CV *** methodologies for assessing 21 speciﬁc performance measures contained within eight performance categories for the operational and safety-related *** were conducted on data collected during the baseline period,and pre-deployment conditions were established for 1 performance ***,microsimulation modeling was recommended to aid in evaluating the mobility and safety beneﬁts of the WYDOT CV system,particularly when evaluating system performance under various CV penetration rates and/or CV *** implications–The proposed performance evaluation framework can guide other researchers and practitioners identifying the best performance measures and evaluation methodologies when conducting similar research ***/value–To the best of the authors’knowledge,this is theﬁrst research that develops performance measures and evaluation plan for low-volume rural freeway CV system under adverse weather *** paper raised some early insights into how CV technology might achieve the goal of improving safety and mobility and has the potential to guide similar research activities conducted by other agencies.

Transit priority has been considered as the most efficient measure to deal with urban traffic *** of pre-signal at signalized intersection is one of the effective measures to execute transit *** paper we studied the key issues for setting pre-signal,mainly including the setting of approaches for intersections under pre-signal and the coordination of the pre-signal and the main ***,take a typical intersection,as well as the adjacent two intersections as an example to design pre-signal control scheme under practical traffic ***,we discussed the potential problems and matters needing attention when setting pre-signals.

Neutral electrolyte aluminum air battery with open configuration

A kind of new long life aluminum air batteries with open configuration was developed, using aluminum alloy doped with Ga, In, Sn, Bi, Pb and Mn as anode, NaCl solution as electrolyte and air electrode as cathode. The polarization curves of aluminum electrode and air electrode were tested. And the cell′s performance was tested to calculate the utilization of aluminum electrode and the energy density. It is shown that, in the 3.5% NaCl solution, the cell can discharge at 0.29 A for 140 h with the working voltage keeping over 1.1 V. The utilization ratio of aluminum anode is over 44%, and the life of battery is longer than 2400 h.

Nanomodification of living organisms by biomimetic mineralization

In nature, a few living organisms such as diatoms, magnetotactic bacteria, and eggs have developed specific mineral structures, which can provide extensive protection or unique functions. However, most organisms do not have such structured materials due to their lack of biomineralization ability. The artificial introduction of biomimetic-constructed nanominerals is challenging but holds great promise. In this overview, we highlight two typical types of mineral- living complex systems. One involves biological surface-induced nanomaterials, which produces artificial living-mineral core-shell structures such as the mineral- encapsulated yeast, cyanobacteria, bacteria and viruses. The other involves internal nanominerals that could endow organisms with unique structures and properties. The applications of these biomimetic generated nanominerals are further discussed, mainly in four potential areas： storage, protection, ＂stealth＂ and delivery. Since biomineralization combines chemical, nano and biological technologies, we suggest that nanobiomimetic mineralization may open up another window for interdisciplinary research. Specifically, this is a novel material-based biological regulation strategy and the integration of living organisms with functional nanomaterials can create ＂super＂ or intelligent nanoscale living complexes for biotechnological practices.

In a recent study published in Nature,Zhang et *** the nutrient competition between cancer cells as well as their competition with macrophages during cancer development.1 Their data demonstrated that tumor-associated macrophage(TAM)can be dietarily or genetically reprogrammed to win in the competition with MYC-overexpressing cancer cells,providing new insights into our understanding of tumor development and immunotherapy.

Effect of Spherical Particle Size on the Electrochemical Properties of Lithium Iron Phosphate

The effect of spherical particle size on the surface morphology, electrochemical property and processability of lithium iron phosphate was systematically studied. Spherical lithium iron phosphate with different particle size distributions controlled with ball time of precursor slurry was prepared by spray drying method. The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), charge and discharge measurements and EIS. The electrochemical performances of the sample materials were measured by coin cells and 14500 batteries. XRD shows that the spherical lithium iron phosphate with different particle sizes all have good crystal structure due to the perfect mixing of the raw materials and rapid drying. The lithium iron phosphate microsphere with different particle sizes self-assembled with submicron primary particles has a core-shell structure. The longer ball time the precursors are, the smaller the active material particles are prepared. The electrode material with 6 h ball time of precursor slurry has the best physical properties and the processability. The composite has a uniform particle size and higher tap density of 1.46 g/cm3, which delivers a discharge capacity of 167.6 mAh/g at a discharge rate of 0.5 C. The results were confirmed by the 14 500 mA h cylindrical batteries, which delivers a discharge capacity of 579 mAh at 0.5 C. And low-temperature performance with capacity of 458.5 mA h at -20 °C under a discharge rate of 0.5 C is the 79.2% of the same discharge rate at 25 °C. Otherwise, the 14500 batteries also exhibit excellent cycling performance and the capacity maintains 93% after 2 000 cycles.

Acupuncture at Baihui and Dazhui reduces brain cell apoptosis in heroin readdicts

Acupuncture at Baihui （GV20） and Dazhui （GV14） reduces neuronal loss and attenuates ultra- structural damage in cerebral ischemic rats. However, whether acupuncture can treat addiction and prevent readdiction through changes to brain cell ultrastructure remains unknown. In this study, cell apoptosis was observed in the hippocampus and frontal lobe of heroin readdicted rats by electron microscopy. Immunohistochemical staining displayed a reduction in Bcl-2 ex- pression and an increase in Bax expression in the hippocampus and frontal lobe. After rats were given acupuncture at Baihui and Dazhui, the pathological damage in the hippocampus and frontal lobe was significantly reduced, Bcl-2 expression was upregulated and Bax expression was downregulated. Acupuncture exerted a similar effect with methadone, a commonly used drug for clinical treatment of drug addiction. Experimental findings suggest that acupuncture at Dazhui and Baihui can prevent brain cell apoptosis in heroin readdicted rats.

Asymmetric competition for seeds between two sympatric food hoarding rodents:implications for coexistence

Asymmetric competition occurs when some species have distinct advantages over their competitors and is common in animals with overlapping habitats and ***,the mechanism allowing coexistence between asymmetric competitors is not fully *** white-bellied rats(Niviventer confucianus,CWR)and Korean field mice(Apodemus peninsulae,KFM)are common asymmetric competitors in shrublands and forests west of Beijing *** share similar diet(*** seeds)and activity(nocturnal),but differ in body size(CWR are bigger than KFM),food hoarding habit(CWR:mainly larder hoarding;KFM:both larder and scatter hoarding),and ability to protect cached food(CWR are more aggressive than KFM).Here,we tested seed competition in 15 CWR-KFM pairs over a 10-day period under semi-natural enclosure conditions to uncover the differences in food hoarding,cache pilferage,and food protection between the 2 rodents,and discuss the implication for *** to pilferage,CWR harvested and ate more seeds than *** tended to larder hoard seeds,whereas KFM preferred to scatter hoard *** pilferage,CWR increased consumption,decreased intensity of hoarding,and pilfered more caches from KFM than they lost,while KFM increased consumption more than they hoarded,and they preferred to hoard seeds in low and medium competition ***,both of the 2 rodent species increased their total energy consumption and hoarding following *** rodent species tended to harvest seeds from the source,rather than pilfer caches from each other to compensate for cache loss via *** to CWR,KFM consumed fewer seeds when considering seed number,but hoarded more seeds when considering the seeds’relative energy(energy of hoarded seeds/rodent body mass2/3)at the end of the *** results suggest that asymmetric competition for food exists between CWR and KFM,but differentiation in hoarding behavior could help the subordinate species(***)hoard more energy
