Impact of scandium and terbium on the mechanical properties,corrosion behavior,and biocompatibility of biodegradable Mg-Zn-Zr-Mn alloys

Magnesium(Mg)-based bone implants degrade rapidly in the physiological environment of the human body which affects their structural integrity and biocompatibility before adequate bone *** earth elements(REEs)have demonstrated their effectiveness in tailoring the corrosion and mechanical behavior of Mg *** study methodically investigated the impacts of scandium(Sc)and terbium(Tb)in tailoring the corrosion resistance,mechanical properties,and biocompatibility of Mg–0.5Zn–0.35Zr–0.15Mn(MZZM)alloys fabricated via casting and hot *** indicate that addition of Sc and Tb improved the strength of MZZM alloys via grain size reduction and solid solution strengthening *** extruded MZZM–(1–2)Sc–(1–2)Tb(wt.%)alloys exhibit compressive strengths within the range of 336–405 MPa,surpassing the minimum required strength of 200 MPa for bone implants by a significant *** polarization tests revealed low corrosion rates of as–cast MZZM(0.25 mm/y),MZZM–2Tb(0.45 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc–1Tb(0.18 mm/y),and MZZM–1Sc–2Tb(0.64 mm/y),and extruded MZZM(0.17 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc(0.15 mm/y),MZZM-2Sc(0.45 mm/y),MZZM-1Tb(0.17 mm/y),MZZM-2Tb(0.10 mm/y),MZZM–1Sc-1Tb(0.14 mm/y),MZZM-1Sc-2Tb(0.40 mm/y),and MZZM–2Sc–2Tb(0.51 mm/y)alloys,which were found lower compared to corrosion rate of high-purity Mg(~1.0 mm/y)reported in the ***,addition of Sc,or Tb,or Sc and Tb to MZZM alloys did not adversely affect the viability of SaOS2 cells,but enhanced their initial cell attachment,proliferation,and spreading shown via polygonal shapes and *** study emphasizes the benefits of incorporating Sc and Tb elements in MZZM alloys,as they effectively enhance corrosion resistance,mechanical properties,and biocompatibility simultaneously.

Effect of MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3) and Mg0-MgAl_(2)0_(4)-based refractories on refractory-steel interface reaction and cleanliness of pipeline steel

The interaction of MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based and MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-based refractories with X70 molten steel was studied by immersion experiments at 1560℃.The effects of immersion time(30 and 60 min)on the contents of total oxygen(TO),Al,Nb,Si,Mn,and Cr as well as the composition,number density,and size distribution of inclusions in the molten steel were *** influence of the penetration and erosion degree of the molten steel to the refractory on the steel-refractory interface layer was *** results show that,at 1560℃,the MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based refractory can better control the contents of TO and the composition of molten steel compared with the MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-based *** TO content is only 16×10^(-4) wt.%in the molten steel after reacted with the Mg0-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based refractory at the end point of refining,4 accounting for 11.5%of that reacted with the MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-based refractory(139×10^(-4) wt.%).The number density of inclusions is only 14 mm^(-2),and the average size ofinclusions is only 1.31μm,with thelargest proportion of inclusions in 1-2μm(70%).The Al_(2)O_(3)-MnS-CaO complex inclusions in the original steel changed to complex inclusions dominated by Cr-Nb-Mn-S-O and ***_(2)O_(3),corresponding to the MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-based and MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based refractories,*** ***_(2)O_(3) layer was formed at the reaction interface between MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based refractory and molten steel,which is helpful to restrict the erosion of refractories and the pollution of molten *** damage mechanism of the MgO-Cr_(2)O_(3)-based refractory is mainly permeation and chemical reaction,while the damage of the MgO-MgAl_(2)O_(4)-based refractory is mainlyscouring erosion.

Chemical modification of barite for improving the performance of weighting materials for water-based drilling fluids

With increasing drilling depth and large dosage of weighting materials,drilling fluids with high solid content are characterized by poor stability,high viscosity,large water loss,and thick mud cake,easier leading to reservoir damage and wellbore *** this paper,micronized barite(MB)was modified(mMB)by grafting with hydrophilic polymer onto the surface through the free radical polymerization to displace conventional API barite *** suspension stability of water-based drilling fluids(WBDFs)weighted with API barite:mMB=2:1 in 600 g was significantly enhanced compared with that with API barite/WBDFs,exhibiting the static sag factor within 0.54 and the whole stability index of *** viscosity and yield point reached the minimum,with a reduction of more than 40%compared with API barite only at the same *** multi-stage filling and dense accumulation of weighting materials and clays,filtration loss was decreased,mud cake quality was improved,and simultaneously it had great reservoir protection performance,and the permeability recovery rate reached 87%.In addition,it also effectively improved the lubricity of *** sticking coefficient of mud cake was reduced by 53.4%,and the friction coefficient was ***,mMB can serve as a versatile additive to control the density,rheology,filtration,and stability of WBDFs weighted with API barite,thus regulating comprehensive performance and achieving reservoir protection *** work opened up a new path for the productive drilling of extremely deep and intricate wells by providing an efficient method for managing the performance of high-density WBDFs.

lidocaine hydrochloride loaded isomaltulose microneedles for efficient local anesthesia of the skin

lidocaine hydrochloride(liDH) as an anesthetic is widely used in local anesthesia. Dissolving microneedles(MNs) have great application value in the field of skin anesthesia. However, the limited drug-loading of dissolving MNs is an existing challenge that affects clinical use. In this study, we have screened isomaltulose(ISO) as the proper matrix material for the MNs by using molecular dynamics(MD) simulation. Our findings indicate that ISO has good compatibility with liDH, and the liDH-loaded ISO MNs(li-MNs) have high drug-loading capacity. The drug-loading capacity of li-MNs could reach 80%, and it could effectively puncture the skin. In addition, the preparation method of customized li-MNs was established based on three-dimensional(3D) printing technology. It was shown that the administration time of li-MNs could be controlled within 3 min. Also, the li-MNs were able to provide the local anesthetic efficacy within2 min and sustained for more than 2 h. Significantly, li-MNs had more efficient drug efficacy compared to the topical creams and the majority of existing liDH-loaded dissolving MNs. They even provided a longer duration of action than the injections. Overall, the li-MNs with high drug-loading have a promising application prospect.

Main controlling factor and mechanism of gas-in-place content of the Lower Cambrian shale from different sedimentary facies in the western Hubei area, South China

The Lower Cambrian shale gas in the western Hubei area, South China has a great resource prospect, but the gas-in-place（GIP） content in different sedimentary facies varies widely, and the relevant mechanism has been not well understood. In the present study, two sets of the Lower Cambrian shale samples from the Wells YD4 and YD5 in the western Hubei area, representing the deep-water shelf facies and shallowwater platform facies, respectively, were investigated on the differences of pore types, pore structure and methane adsorption capacity between them, and the main controlling factor and mechanism of their methane adsorption capacities and GIP contents were discussed. The results show that the organic matter（OM） pores in the YD4 shale samples are dominant, while the inorganic mineral（IM） pores in the YD5 shale samples are primary, with underdeveloped OM pores. The pore specific surface area（SSA） and pore volume（PV） of the YD4 shale samples are mainly from micropores and mesopores, respectively,while those of the YD5 shale samples are mainly from micropores and macropores, respectively. The methane adsorption capacity of the YD4 shale samples is significantly higher than that of the YD5 shale samples, with a maximum absolute adsorption capacity of 3.13 cm3/g and 1.31 cm3/g in average,respectively. Compared with the shallow-water platform shale, the deep-water shelf shale has a higher TOC content, a better kerogen type and more developed OM pores, which is the main mechanism for its higher adsorption capacity. The GIP content models based on two samples with a similar TOC content selected respectively from the Wells YD4 and YD5 further indicate that the GIP content of the deep-water shelf shale is mainly 3 4 m3/t within a depth range of 1000—4000 m, with shale gas exploration and development potential, while the shallow-water platform shale has normally a GIP content of little shale gas potential. What is the Role of Gravity,Turbulence and Magnetic Fields in High-mass Star Formation Clouds?

To explore the potential role of gravity,turbulence and magnetic fields in high-mass star formation in molecular clouds,this study revisits the velocity dispersion–size(σ–L)and density–size(ρ–L)scalings and the associated turbulent energy spectrum using an extensive data *** sample includes various hierarchical density structures in high-mass star formation clouds,across scales of 0.01–100 *** observeσ∝L^(0.26)andρ∝L^(-1.54)scalings,converging toward a virial equilibrium state.A nearly flat virial parameter–mass(α_(vir)-M)distribution is seen across all density scales,withα_(vir)values centered around unity,suggesting a global equilibrium maintained by the interplay between gravity and turbulence across multiple *** turbulent energy spectrum(E(k))analysis,based on theσ–L andρ–L scalings,yields a characteristic E(k)∝k^(-1.52).These findings indicate the potential significance of gravity,turbulence,and possibly magnetic fields in regulating dynamics of molecular clouds and high-mass star formation therein.

he relativistic binary-encounter-Bethe model with Wannier-type threshold law is employed to obtain the inner-shell ionization cross sections of multi-electron atoms(Ni,Cu,Y,Ag,Au,Yb,Ta,and Pb)for positron impact energies from the thresholds up to 105 *** is good agreement between the present calculations and the experimental *** constant in the acceleration term derived from the Wannier law is determined to be 0.2 and 0.5 for the K-and L-shells,respectively.
