Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a leading cause of cancer-related death *** recurrence of HCC after curative treatments is currently a major *** of subsets of patients with distinct prognosis provides an opportunity to tailor therapeutic approaches as well as to select the patients with specific sub-phenotypes for targeted ***,the development of gene expression profiles to improve the prediction of HCC prognosis is important for HCC *** several gene signatures have been evaluated for the prediction of HCC prognosis,there is no consensus on the predictive power of these *** systematic approaches to evaluate these signatures and combine them with clinicopathologic information may provide more accurate prediction of HCC ***,Villanueva et al developed a composite prognostic model incorporating gene expression patterns in both tumor and adjacent tissues to predict HCC *** this commentary,we summarize the current progress in using gene signatures to predict HCC prognosis,and discuss the importance,existing issues and future research directions in this field.

NR4A2 is a transcription factor belonging to the steroid orphan nuclear receptor *** was originally considered to be essential in the generation and maintenance of dopaminergic neurons,and associated with neurological disorders such as Parkinson's ***,NR4A2 has been found to play a critical role in some inflammatory diseases and ***4A2 can be efficiently trans-activated by some proinflammatory cytokines,such as tumor necrosis factor-α,interleukin-1β,and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF).The nuclear factor-κB signaling pathway serves as a principal regulator of inducible NR4A expression in immune ***4A2 can trans-activate Foxp3,a hallmark specifically expressed in regulatory T(Treg) cells,and plays a critical role in the differentiation,maintenance,and function of Treg ***4A2 in T lymphocytes is pivotal for Treg cell induction and suppression of aberrant induction of Th1 under physiological and pathological *** density of Foxp3 + Treg cells is significantly associated with gastrointestinal inflammation,tumor immune escape,and disease ***4A2 is produced at high levels in CD133 + colorectal carcinoma(CRC) cells and significantly upregulated by cyclooxygenase-2-derived prostaglandin E 2 in a cyclic adenosine monophosphate(cAMP)/protein kinase A(PKA)-dependent manner in CRC *** cAMP/PKA signaling pathway is the common pathway of NR4A2-related inflammation and ***4A2 trans-activates osteopontin,a direct target of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway associated with CRC invasion,metastasis,and poor *** of endogenous NR4A2 expression attenuates VEGF-induced endothelial cell proliferation,migration and in vivo *** together,NR4A2 emerges as an important nuclear factor linking gastrointestinal inflammation and cancer,especially CRC,and should serve as a candidate therapeutic target for inflammation-related gastrointestinal cancer.

Heavy flavor particles provide important probes of the microscopic structure and thermodynamic properties of the quark-gluon plasma(QGP)produced in high-energy nucleus-nucleus *** studied the energy loss and flow of charm and bottom quarks inside the QGP via the nuclear modification factor(R_(AA))and elliptic flow coefficient(v_(2))of their decayed leptons in heavy-ion collisions at the *** dynamical evolution of the QGP was performed using the CLVisc(3+1)-dimensional viscous hydrodynamics model;the evolution of heavy quarks inside the QGP was simulated with our improved Langevin model that considers both collisional and radiative energy loss of heavy quarks;the hadronization of heavy quarks was simulated via our hybrid coalescence-fragmentation model;and the semi-leptonic decay of D and B mesons was simulated via *** the same spatial diffusion coefficient for charm and bottom quarks,we obtained smaller R_(AA) and larger v_(2) of charm decayed leptons than bottom decayed leptons,indicating stronger energy loss of charm quarks than bottom quarks inside the QGP within our current model setup.

Fish in nature exhibit a variety of swimming modes such as forward swimming,backward swimming,turning,pitching,etc.,enabling them to swim in complex scenes such as coral *** is still difficult for a robotic fish to swim autonomously in a confined area as a real ***,we develop an untethered robotic manta as an experimental platform,which consists of two flexible pectoral fins and a tail fin,with three infrared sensors installed on the front,left,and right sides of the head to sense the surrounding *** generate multiple swimming modes of the robotic manta and online switching of different modes,we design a closed-loop Central Pattern Generator(CPG)controller based on distance information and use a combination of phase difference and amplitude of the CPG model to achieve stable and rapid adjustment of yaw *** verify the autonomous swimming ability of the robotic manta in complex scenes,we design an experimental scenario with a concave *** experimental results show that the robotic manta can achieve forward swimming,backward swimming,in situ turning within the concave obstacle,and finally exit from the area safely while relying on the perception of external obstacles,which can provide insight into the autonomous exploration of complex scenes by the biomimetic robotic ***,the swimming ability of the robotic manta is verified by field tests.

Bionic manta underwater vehicles will play an essential role in future oceans and can perform tasks,such as long-duration reconnaissance and exploration,due to their efficient *** manta wings’deformation is evident during the swimming *** improve the propulsion performance of the unmanned submersible,the study of the deformation into the bionic pectoral fin is *** this research,we designed and fabricated a flexible bionic pectoral fin,which is based on the Fin Ray®effect with active and passive deformation(APD)*** APD fin was actively controlled by two servo motors and could be passively deformed to variable *** APD fin was moved at 0.5 Hz beat frequency,and the propulsive performance was experimentally verified of the bionic pectoral fins equipped with different extents of *** results showed that the pectoral fin with active–passive deformed capabilities could achieve similar natural biological deformation in the wingspan *** average thrust(T)under the optimal wingspan deformation is 61.5%higher than the traditional passive deformed pectoral *** obtained results shed light on the design and optimization of the bionic pectoral fins to improve the propulsive performance of unmanned underwater vehicles(UUV).

Hospital-acquired infections(HAIs) are serious problems for healthcare systems, especially in developing countries where public health infrastructure and technology for infection preventions remain undeveloped. Here, we characterized how strategy and technology could be mobilized to improve the effectiveness of infection prevention and control in hospitals during the outbreaks of Ebola, Middle East respiratory syndrome(MERS), and severe acute respiratory syndrome(SARS) in Asia and West Africa. Published literature on the hospital-borne outbreaks of SARS, Ebola, and MERS in Asia and West Africa was comprehensively reviewed. The results showed that healthcare systems and hospital management in affected healthcare facilities had poor strategies and inadequate technologies and human resources for the prevention and control of HAIs, which led to increased morbidity, mortality, and unnecessary costs. We recommend that governments worldwide enforce disaster risk management, even when no outbreaks are imminent. Quarantine and ventilation functions should be taken into consideration in architectural design of hospitals and healthcare facilities. We also recommend that health authorities invest in training healthcare workers for disease outbreak response, as their preparedness is essential to reducing disaster risk.

How interfacial electron-donating defects influence the structure and charge of gold nanoparticles on TiO_(2)support

The reduction degree of TiO_(2)support is critical to the performances of metal *** many previous theoretical calculations,only the bridge oxygen vacancy(Ov)was considered as the electron-donating defect on reduced rutile TiO_(2)(r-TiO_(2−x))***,titanium adatoms(Tiad.),oxidized titanium islands(***),and acid hydroxyls(ObrH)also exist at the metal/support *** conducting density functional theory(DFT)calculations and ab initio molecular dynamics(AIMD)simulations,we compared r-TiO_(2−x)surfaces with Ov,Tiad.,***,and ObrH sites loaded with Au nanoparticles(NPs).The results showed the Au NPs were oxygen-phobic but titanium-philic,resulting in wetting of Ov and *** short contact with *** and *** Bader charges of Au NPs(QM)showed a good linear relationship with the ideal number of donating electrons(Ne)from the defective sites(QM=−KeNe+QM,S),demonstrating the intrinsic electron allocation at the *** Ov,Tiad.,and *** exhibited similar slopes(Ke),relatively steeper than that of *** means in the scope of Au NP charge state,the *** *** have a close electron-donating ability with Ov,but the ObrH donates relatively fewer *** linear relationship can be extended approximately to other *** higher the metal work function,the steeper the Ke for easier electron donation from defective *** stronger the metal oxygen affinity,the more positive the intercept(QM,S).That explains the easy generation of metallic or negative Pt and Au NPs on r-TiO_(2−x),but hard for Cu and Zn in *** provides theoretical guidance for regulating the charge of metal NPs over TiO_(2−x)supports.

Fixed-Time Gradient Flows for Solving Constrained Optimization: A Unified Approach

The accelerated method in solving optimization problems has always been an absorbing *** on the fixedtime(FxT)stability of nonlinear dynamical systems,we provide a unified approach for designing FxT gradient flows(FxTGFs).First,a general class of nonlinear functions in designing FxTGFs is provided.A unified method for designing first-order FxTGFs is shown under Polyak-Łjasiewicz inequality assumption,a weaker condition than strong *** there exist both bounded and vanishing disturbances in the gradient flow,a specific class of nonsmooth robust FxTGFs with disturbance rejection is *** the strict convexity assumption,Newton-based FxTGFs is given and further extended to solve time-varying ***,the proposed FxTGFs are further used for solving equation-constrained ***,an FxT proximal gradient flow with a wide range of parameters is provided for solving nonsmooth composite *** show the effectiveness of various FxTGFs,the static regret analyses for several typical FxTGFs are also provided in ***,the proposed FxTGFs are applied to solve two network problems,i.e.,the network consensus problem and solving a system linear equations,respectively,from the perspective of ***,by choosing component-wisely sign-preserving functions,these problems can be solved in a distributed way,which extends the existing *** accelerated convergence and robustness of the proposed FxTGFs are validated in several numerical examples stemming from practical applications.
