In the study by Wu et al,patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma were subjected to transarterial chemoembolization(TACE)as a conversion therapy in order to render their tumors suitable for resection.A nomogram was devised and shown to be effective in predicting the survival of these patients.Generalization of the results,however,is questionable since the study subjects consisted of patients who had resection after TACE while excluding patients with the same disease but not suitable for TACE.Immunotherapy can be considered to be an option for conversion therapy.However,markers for determining responses to a conversion therapy and for guiding the decision between TACE and sequential immunotherapy have been lacking.The question of whether effective conversion therapy can truly enhance overall survival remains unanswered.

Gliomas tend to have a poor prognosis and are the most common primary malignant tumors of the central nervous system.Compared with patients with other cancers,glioma patients often suffer from increased levels of psychological stress,such as anxiety and fear.Chronic stress(CS)is thought to impact glioma profoundly.However,because of the complex mechanisms underlying CS and variability in individual tolerance,the role of CS in glioma remains unclear.This review suggests a new proposal to redivide the stress system into two parts.Neuronal activity is dominant upstream.Stress-signaling molecules produced by the neuroendocrine system are dominant downstream.We discuss the underlying molecular mechanisms by which CS impacts glioma.Potential pharmacological treatments are also summarized from the therapeutic perspective of CS.

Coastal ecosystems are highly susceptible to salt-related problems due to their formation process and geographical location. As such ecosystems are the most accessible land resources on Earth, clarifying and quantifying the effects of salt-alkali conditions on N concentration and ammonia(NH_(3)) volatilization are pivotal for promoting coastal agricultural productivity. The challenge in establishing this effect is to determine how salt-alkali conditions impact NH_(3) volatilization through direct or indirect interactions. An incubation experiment using a coastal soil from a paddy farmland, combined with the structural equation modeling(SEM) method, was conducted to reveal the net effects of salt-alkali on NH_(3) volatilization and the role of environmental and microbial factors in mutual interaction networks. The specific experimental design consisted of four salt treatments(S1, S2, S3, and S4: 1‰, 3‰, 8‰, and 15‰ NaCl by mass of soil, respectively), four alkaline treatments(A1, A2, A3, and A4: 0.5‰, 1‰, 3‰, and 8‰ NaHCO_(3)by mass of soil, respectively) and a control without NaCl or NaHCO_(3) addition(CK), and each treatment had three urea concentrations(N1, N2, and N3: 0.05, 0.10, and 0.15 g N kg^(-1) soil,respectively) and three replicates. At the N1, N2, and N3 levels, NH_(3)volatilization increased by 9.31%–34.98%, 3.07%–26.92%, and 2.99%–43.61% as the NaCl concentration increased from 1‰ to 15‰, respectively, compared with CK. With an increase in the NaHCO_(3)concentration from 0.5‰ to 8‰, NH_(3) volatilization increased by 8.36%–56.46%, 5.49%–30.10%, and 30.72%–73.18% at the N1, N2, and N3 levels, respectively, compared with CK. According to the SEM method, salinity and alkalinity had positive direct effects on NH_(3)volatilization, with standardized path coefficients of 0.40 and 0.19, respectively.Considering the total effects(net positive and negative effects) in the SEM results, alkalinity had a greater influence than salinity(total standardized coefficient0.104 > 0.086). This study explores the effects of bureaucratic culture on innovation.We define bureaucratic culture as a culture in which power and officials are held in the highest regard.Using panel data of publicly listed Chinese manufacturing firms from 2007 to 2015,we found that bureaucratic culture negatively correlated with firms'patent output.A mechanism analysis shows that bureaucratic culture hindered corporate innovation by reducing firms'research and development inputs and decreasing innovation efficiency.Furthermore,we provided evidence that anti-corruption campaigns and the development of formal institutions could neutralize the negative impact of bureaucratic culture on corporate innovation.This study is the first to investigate quantitatively the causal effect of bureaucratic culture on corporate innovation and it can deepen the understanding of the relationship between culture and innovation in China.We speculate that promoting a creative culture,particularly one that fosters entrepreneurial spirit,is of utmost importance.

α-Olefins as aliphatic terminal alkenes could be obtained easily from numerous contemporary synthetic reactions as well as petro-chemical industry,and also found in natural products.Compared to the alkenes attaching the directing groups or activating group,the catalytic asymmetric reaction of unactivated terminal alkenes presents great challenges due to the weak electron effect and small steric hindrance effect.This review mainly summarizes the latest progress of the asymmetric reaction of unactivated terminal olefins since 2016.

Designing metal-organic framework fiber network reinforced polymer electrolytes to provide continuous ion transport in solid state lithium metal batteries

Polyethylene oxide(PEO)-based solid-state electrolytes are considered ideal for electrolyte materials in solid-state lithium metal batteries(SSLMBs).However,practical applications are hindered by the lower conductivity and poor interfacial stability.Here,we propose a strategy to construct a three-dimensional(3D)fiber network of metal-organic frameworks(MOFs).Composite solid electrolytes(CSEs)with continuous ion transport pathways were fabricated by filling a PEO polymer matrix in fibers containing interconnected MOFs.This 3D fiber network provides a fast Li+transport path and effectively improves the ionic conductivity(1.36×10^(-4) S·cm^(-1),30℃).In addition,the network of interconnected MOFs not only effectively traps the anions,but also provides sufficient mechanical strength to prevent the growth of Li dendrites.Benefiting from the advantages of structural design,the CSEs stabilize the Li/electrolyte interface and extend the cycle life of the Li-symmetric cells to 3000 h.The assembled SSLMBs exhibit excellent cycling performance at both room and high temperatures.In addition,the constructed pouch cells can provide an areal capacity of 0.62 mA·h·cm^(-2),which can still operate under extreme conditions.This work provides a new strategy for the design of CSEs with continuous structure and stable operation of SSLMBs.

Rheumatoid arthritis(RA)is a debilitating autoimmune disease that causes chronic pain and serious complications,presenting a significant challenge to treat.Promising approaches for treating RA involve signaling pathways modulation and targeted therapy.To this end,a multifunctional nanosystem,TPC-U@HAT,has been designed for RA therapy,featuring multitargeting,dual-stimuli response,and on-demand drug release capabilities.TPC-U@HAT is composed of a probe/prodrug TPC,a JAK1 kinase inhibitor upadacitinib,and the drug carrier HAT.TPC is composed of an aggregation-induced emission(AIE)-active NIR-II chromophore TPY and an NF-κB/NLRP3 inhibitor caffeic acid phenethyl ester(CAPE),connected via boronic ester bond which serves as the reactive-oxygen-species-responsive linker.The carrier,HAT,is created by grafting bone-targeting alendronate and hydrophobic tocopheryl succinate onto hyaluronic acid chains,which can encapsulate TPC and upadacitinib to form TPC-U@HAT.Upon intravenous injection into mice,TPC-U@HAT accumulates at inflamed lesions of RA through both active and passive targeting,and the overexpressed hyaluronidase and H_(2)O_(2) therein cleave the hyaluronic acid polymer chains and boronate bonds,respectively.This generates an AIE-active chromophore for detection and therapeutic evaluation of RA via both optoacoustic imaging and NIR-II fluorescent imaging and concomitantly releases CAPE and upadacitinib to exert efficacious therapy by inhibiting NF-κB/NLRP3 and JAK-STAT pathways.

In addressing the challenge of motion artifacts in Positron Emission Tomography (PET) lung scans, our studyintroduces the Triple Equivariant Motion Transformer (TEMT), an innovative, unsupervised, deep-learningbasedframework for efficient respiratory motion correction in PET imaging. Unlike traditional techniques,which segment PET data into bins throughout a respiratory cycle and often face issues such as inefficiency andoveremphasis on certain artifacts, TEMT employs Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) for effective featureextraction and motion decomposition.TEMT’s unique approach involves transforming motion sequences into Liegroup domains to highlight fundamental motion patterns, coupled with employing competitive weighting forprecise target deformation field generation. Our empirical evaluations confirm TEMT’s superior performancein handling diverse PET lung datasets compared to existing image registration networks. Experimental resultsdemonstrate that TEMT achieved Dice indices of 91.40%, 85.41%, 79.78%, and 72.16% on simulated geometricphantom data, lung voxel phantom data, cardiopulmonary voxel phantom data, and clinical data, respectively. Tofacilitate further research and practical application, the TEMT framework, along with its implementation detailsand part of the simulation data, is made publicly accessible at https://***/yehaowei/temt.

To the Editor:Fontan-associated liver disease shows increasing incidence as advances in pediatric cardiology have prolonged life expectancy in patients with single ventricle congenital heart defects[1].Their unique physiology and procedure-related sequelae present an increasingly relevant challenge in hepatic surgery.We hereby reported a series of patients suffering from hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)who successfully underwent open and laparoscopic hepatectomy.
