Optimal approach for total endoscopic discectomy and its effect on lumbar and leg function in patients with disc herniation

BACKGROUND Disc herniation(DH)is a fragment of the disc nucleus that is pushed out of the annulus into the spinal canal due to a tear or rupture in the *** is a common cause of lumbar and leg *** advancements have been made to determine the cause of DH and to ensure accurate diagnosis,imaging,and treatment of this *** endoscopic discectomy is an alternative surgical technique that is less *** To study the optimal approach for a total endoscopic discectomy and its influence on lumbar and leg function in DH *** This prospective study enrolled 120 patients with lumbar DH who were treated in our hospital from February 2018 to January *** patients were randomly divided into the following two groups:The observation group,comprising 62 patients who underwent surgery using the interlaminar approach,and the control group,comprising 58 patients who were operated through the foramina *** treatment effects,perioperative indicators,functional recovery,pain,and quality of life were compared between the two *** The treatment effect in the observation group(93.55%)was significantly better than that in the control group(77.59%).There was no difference in the operative time and intraoperative blood loss amount between the two groups(P>0.05).The hospitalization time of the observation group(4.34±1.33 d)was significantly shorter than that of the control group(5.38±1.57 days)(P<0.05).The Japanese Orthopaedic Association and Oswestry Disability Index scores decreased significantly in both groups after treatment,but the scores were lower in the observation group than in the control *** visual analog scale scores of the lower back and legs of the two groups were significantly reduced after treatment,but scores were lower in the observation group(2.18±0.88 in the lower back and 1.42±0.50 in the leg)than in the control group(3.53±0.50 in the lower back and 2.21±0.52 in the leg).A short form of the Arthritis

Electrochemical formation and phase control of Mg-Li alloys

The electrochemical formation of Mg-Li alloys was investigated in a molten LiCl-KCl (58-42 mol%) eutectic melt at 723 K. The cyclic voltammogram. for a Mo electrode showed that the electroreduction of Li+ proceeds in a single step and the deposition potential of Li metal was -2.40 V (vs. Ag/AgCl). For Mg electrode, the electroreduction of Li+ takes place at less cathodic potential than that at the Mo electrode which was caused by the formation of Mg-Li alloys. Phase of the deposited Mg-Li alloys could be controlled by the electrolysis potential, and the samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that alpha-Mg and beta-Li phases were obtained at -2.35 and -2.55 V, respectively. (c) 2007 Mi Lin zhang. Published by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of Chinese Chemical Society. Sperm chromatin structure assay results after swim-up are related only to embryo quality but not to fertilization and pregnancy rates following IVF

The aim of this study was to investigate whether the sperm chromatin structure assay （SCSA） results after swim-up are related to fertilization rates, embryo quality and pregnancy rates following in vitrofertilization （IVF）. A total of 223 couples undergoing IVF in our hospital from October 2008 to September 2009 were included in this study. Data on the IVF process and sperm chromatin structure assay results were collected. Fertilization rate, embryo quality and IVF success rates of different DNA fragmentation index （DFI） subgroups and high DNA stainability （HDS） subgroups were compared. There were no significant differences in fertilization rate, clinical pregnancy or delivery rates between the DFI and HDS subgroups. However, the group with abnormal DFI had a lower good embryo rate. So, we concluded that the SCSA variables, either DFI or HDS after swim-up preparation, were not valuable in predicting fertilization failure or pregnancy rate, but an abnormal DFI meant a lower good embryo rate following IVF.

A new active piggyBac-like element in Aphis gossypii

Nine piggyBac-like elements （PLEs） were identified from the cotton aphid Aphis gossypii Glover. All the PLEs shared high sequence similarity with each other. However, eight of the nine PLEs were unlikely to encode functional transposase due to the existence of disruptive mutations within the coding regions. The other one PLE contained major characteristics of members in the piggyBac family, including TTAA target site duplications, inverted terminal repeats （ITRs）, and an open reading frame （ORF） coding for a transposase with a putative DDD domain. This one with an intact transposase ORF was named AgoPLE1.1. The predicted transposase shared 47% similarity with that of Trichoplusia ni piggyBac IFP2. Phylogenetic analyses showed that AgoPLE1.1 was most related to the Heliothis virescens PLE1.1 （HvPLE1.1） element, with 45% and 60% similarity at the nucleotide and amino acid levels, respectively. A functional assay demonstrated that AgoPLE1.1 encoded a functional transposase and was able to cause precise excision in cell cultures. On the other hand, few genomic insertion polymorphisms of AgoPLEI were observed in the genome of the cotton aphid. These observations suggested that AgoPLE1.1 was a PLE that invaded the cotton aphid genome in recent periods and retained its activity.

Perfectly Matched Layer for an Elastic Parabolic Equation Model in Ocean Acoustics

The perfectly matched layer(PML) is an effective technique for truncating unbounded domains with minimal spurious reflections. A fluid parabolic equation(PE) model applying PML technique was previously used to analyze the sound propagation problem in a range-dependent waveguide(Lu and Zhu, 2007). However, Lu and Zhu only considered a standard fluid PE to demonstrate the capability of the PML and did not take improved one-way models into consideration. They applied a [1/1] Padé approximant to the parabolic equation. The higher-order PEs are more accurate than standard ones when a very large angle propagation is considered. As for range-dependent problems, the techniques to handle the vertical interface between adjacent regions are mainly energy conserving and single-scattering. In this paper, the PML technique is generalized to the higher order elastic PE, as is to the higher order fluid PE. The correction of energy conserving is used in range-dependent waveguides. Simulation is made in both acoustic cases and seismo-acoustic cases. Range-independent and range-dependent waveguides are both adopted to test the accuracy and efficiency of this method. The numerical results illustrate that a PML is much more effective than an artificial absorbing layer(ABL) both in acoustic and seismo-acoustic sound propagation modeling.

Rupture directivity effect on strong ground motion during the 12 May 2008 M_(W)7.9 Wenchuan earthquake

We focus here on the rupture directivity effect on the spatial distribution and attenuation characteristics of near-field ground motions during the 2008 MW7.9 Wenchuan *** examine the difference between the observed ground motions in and opposite the rupture directions and compare them with Next Generation Attenuation-West2(NGA-West2)ground motion prediction *** isochrone directivity predictor is used to quantify the band-limited nature of the rupture directivity effect on strong ground *** results show that the observed peak ground velocity(PGV)and spectral accelerations of periods of 1.0 s and longer are significantly amplified in the rupture direction,but de-amplified in the opposite direction affected by rupture directivity effect of this *** contrast,the effect of rupture directivity on the observed peak ground acceleration(PGA)and periods of shorter than 1.0 s are relatively *** rupture directivity of this event shows clear period dependent and band limited characteristics with the strongest effect occurring around the period of 7.5 s.

The first record of Pavlova pinguis (Pavlovophyceae, Haptophyta) in China seas

One strain of unicellular flagellated yellow-green algae was successlully isolated lrom the coastal area near Tianjin in the Bohai Sea in May 2015. The strain ranged from round to elongated in shape. Most of the cells possessed active motility, and some cells formed non-motile aggregation. Based on evidences from morphology, ultrastructure and molecular analysis, we identified the strain as Pavlova pinguis which belonged to Pavlovophyceae, Haptophyta. For Pavlovophyceae, only Pavlova viridis （Diacronema viridis） was reported in China seas prior to this study and it played an important role in aquaculture. This is the first record of Pavlova pinguis in Chinese waters.

Particulate matter(PM_(2.5))pollution in high emission regions will affect air quality,human health and climate change on both local and regional scales,and thus attract worldwide *** this study,a comprehensive study on PM_(2.5)and its chemical composition were performed in Yuncheng(the most polluted city of Fen-Wei Plain of China)from November28,2020 to January 24,*** average concentration of PM_(2.5)was 87.8±52.0μg/m^(3),which were apparently lower than those observed during the same periods of past five years,attributable to the clean air action plan implemented in this ***_(3)^(-)and organic carbon(OC)were the dominant particulate components,which on average contributed 22.6%and16.5%to PM_(2.5)2.5,*** fractions of NO_(3)^(-),NH_(4)^(+),OC and trace metals increased while those of crustal materials and elemental carbon decreased with the degradation of PM_(2.5)*** types of PM_(2.5)sources were identified by the PM_(2.5)F model,including secondary inorganic aerosol(35.3%),coal combustion(28.7%),vehicular emission(20.7%),electroplating industry(8.6%),smelt industry(3.9%)and dust(2.8%).Locations of each identified source were pinpointed based on conditional probability function,potential source contribution function and concentration weighted trajectory,which showed that the geographical distribution of the sources of PM_(2.5)roughly agreed with the areas of high ***,this study provides valuable information on atmospheric pollution and deems beneficial for policymakers to take informed action to sustainably improve air quality in highly polluted region.

Microstructural characterization and mechanical properties of(TiC+TiB)/TA15 composites prepared by an in-situ synthesis method

Titanium matrix composites reinforced with ceramic particles are considered a promising engineering material due to their combination of high specific strength,low density,and high *** this study,the TA15-based composites reinforced with a volume fraction of 10% to 25%(TiB+TiC)were prepared using powder metallurgy and casting *** characterization and phase constitution were examined using optical microscopy(OM),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),and X-ray diffraction(XRD).In addition,the microhardness,room temperature(RT)and high temperature(HT)tensile properties of the composites were *** revealed that the reinforcements are distributed uniformly even in the composites with a high volume of TiB and ***,as the volume fraction exceeds 15%,TiB and TiC particles become coarsening and exhibit rod-like and dendritic-like *** increases gradually from 321.2 HV for the base alloy to a maximum of 473.3 HV as the reinforcement increases to 25vol.%.Tensile test results indicate that a reinforcement volume fraction above 20% is beneficial for enhancing tensile strength and yield strength at high temperatures,but it has an adverse effect on room temperature ***,if the reinforcement volume fraction is below 20%,it can improve high-temperature elongation when the temperature exceeds 600℃.
