Tensile Properties and Deformation Behavior of Several Cast Ni-Based Superalloys Fabricated by Different Solidification Ways

The tensile properties and deformation behavior of several cast Ni-based superalloys, respectively, in the equiaxed, columnar-crystal and single-crystal styles are comparatively studied. The effects of solidification way, heat treatment and strain rate on the tensile properties are discussed in detail. It is found that the reduction of grain boundaries by the feasible solidification ways offers cast Ni-based superalloys the potential capability of improving the mechanical properties, the ultimate achievement of which is also confirmed to lie on the appropriate modifications of chemical composition and heat treatment. The prolongation of solid solution facilitates the precipitation of fine secondary γ＇ phase, whereas the extension of high-temperature aging leads to the coarsening of secondary γ＇ phase. The combination of these two aspects has a crucial influence on the tensile properties. Under tensile applied stress, the surface grains of DZ-A alloy deform slightly, while the inner grains deform heavily. This deformation inhomogeneity is ascribed to the occurrence of cracks or oblique grains near the surface of specimens and the sliding or decohesion of grain boundaries between the surface and inner grains. Regardless of strain rate, the ILTDM （intermediate-low-temperature ductility minimum） phe- nomenon always happens in the temperature range from 400 to 600 ℃ in all the investigated alloys, the occurrence of which is closely related to the strong strain-hardening behavior in the deformation process. Finally, the interaction of slip bands which are the main deformation mode below 600 ℃ is established to be the essential reason for the strain hardening.

Effect of Zhu-yuan decoction in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis after functional endoscopic sinus surgery

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effectiveness and safety of Zhu-yuan decoction(ZYD) in patients after functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS).METHODS: A total of 85 patients were randomized into two groups: 44 were treated with intranasal corticosteroids(INC), and 41 were given Chinese herbal medicine(CHM). Patients with chronic rhinosinusitis(CRS) who underwent FESS were prospectively enrolled in the study. Before surgery, they were evaluated by visual analog scale(VAS), nasal endoscopy, computed tomography(CT), and routine blood test. After surgery, they were randomized to take ZYD or INC for 12 weeks and revaluated by VAS; nasal endoscopy at 4, 8, and 12 weeks;and CT at 12 weeks after ***: In the both groups, VAS and endoscopyscores decreased significantly at 4, 8, and 12 weeks,and CT scores after treatment declined at 12 weeks compared with baseline scores. No significant differences were observed with regard to postoperative VAS, endoscopy, or CT scores between ***, combined with surgery, can reduce VAS, nasal endoscopy, and CT scores and has the same efficacy and safety profile as INC in post-FESS *** fatalities or major adverse events occurred in either ***: Our findings suggest that ZYD has similar effects and safety profiles in patients after FESS compared with INC.

Simulation of long-term nutrient removal in a full-scale closed-loop bioreactor for sewage treatment： an example of Bayesian inference

In this study, the performance of nitrogen and phosphorus removal in a full-scale closed-loop bioreactor （oxidation ditch） system was simulated using the ASM2d model. Routine data describing the process for two years were compiled for calibration and validation. To overcome the identifiability problem, the classic Bayesian inference approach was utilized for parameter estimation. The calibrated model could describe the long-term trend of nutrient removal and short-term variations of the process performance, showing that the Bayesian method was a reliable and useful tool for the parameter estimation of the activated sludge models. The anoxic phosphate uptake by polyphosphate accumulating organisms （PAO） contributed 71.2% of the total Poly-P storage, which reveals the dominance of denitrifying phosphorus removal process under the oxygen limiting conditions. It was found that 58.7% of the anoxic Poly-P storage and denitrification by PAO in the reactor was achieved in the aerated compartment, implying that the PAO＇s anoxic activity was significantly stimulated by the low dissolved oxygen （DO） level in this compartment due to the oxygen gradient caused by brush aerator.

Persistent activation of Survivin and its overexpression contribute to the formation, progression and metastasis of several different tumor types. Therefore, Survivin is an ideal target for RNA interference mediated-growth inhibition. Blockade of Survivin using specific short hairpin RNAs （shRNA） can significantly reduce prostate tumor growth. RNA interference does not fully ablate target gene expression, owing to the idiosyncrasies associated with shRNAs and their targets. To enhance the therapeutic efficacy of Survivin-specific shRNA, we employed a combinatorial expression of Survivin-specific shRNA and gene associated with retinoid-interferon-induced mortality-19 （GRIM-19）. Then, the GRIM-19 coding sequences and Survivin-specific shRNAs were used to create a dual expression plasmid vector and were carried by an attenuated strain of Salmonella enteric serovar typhimurium （S. typhimurium） to treat prostate cancer in vitro and in vivo. We found that the co-expressed Survivin-specific shRNA and GRIM-19 synergistically and more effectively inhibited prostate tumor proliferation and survival, when compared with treatment with either single agent alone in vitroand in vivo. This study has provided a novel cancer gene therapeutic approach for prostate cancer.

Lattice configurations in spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates with the SU(3) spin–orbit coupling

We consider the SU(3) spin–orbit coupled spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates in a two-dimensional harmonic trap. The competition between the SU(3) spin–orbit coupling and the spin-exchange interaction results in a rich variety of lattice configurations. The ground-state phase diagram spanned by the isotropic SU(3) spin–orbit coupling and the spin–spin interaction is presented. Five ground-state phases can be identified on the phase diagram, including the plane wave phase, the stripe phase, the kagome lattice phase, the stripe-honeycomb lattice phase, and the honeycomb hexagonal lattice phase. The system undergoes a sequence of phase transitions from the rectangular lattice phase to the honeycomb hexagonal lattice phase, and to the triangular lattice phase in spin-1 Bose–Einstein condensates with anisotrpic SU(3) spin–orbit coupling.

A cDNA clone, pS4, has been isolated from a cDNA library prepared from rice anthers of about 1.0 mm in length. DNA sequence analysis and database search show that the cDNA encodes a protein which is highly homologous to eukaryotic 80S ribosomal protein subunit 4 (S4). Northern hybridization indicates that this gene expresses in all tissues analyzed although the expression level varies and it cannot be induced by mechanical wounding in leaves. Abnormal breakdown of Stokes–Einstein relation in liquid aluminium

We present the results of systematic molecular dynamics simulations of pure aluminium melt with a well-accepted embedded atom potential. The structure and dynamics were calculated over a wide temperature range, and the calculated results（including the pair correlation function, self-diffusion coefficient, and viscosity） agree well with the available experimental observations. The calculated data were used to examine the Stokes–Einstein relation（SER）. The results indicate that the SER begins to break down at a temperature Tx（-1090 K） which is well above the equilibrium melting point（912.5 K）.This high-temperature breakdown is confirmed by the evolution of dynamics heterogeneity, which is characterised by the non-Gaussian parameter α2（t）. The maximum value of α 2（t）, α（2,max）, increases at an accelerating rate as the temperature falls below Tx. The development of α（2,max） was found to be related to the liquid structure change evidenced by local fivefold symmetry. Accordingly, we suggest that this high-temperature breakdown of SER has a structural origin. The results of this study are expected to make researchers reconsider the applicability of SER and promote greater understanding of the relationship between dynamics and structure.
