Cell–cell adhesion is at the center of structure and dynamics of epithelial tissue.E-cadherin–catenin complexes mediate Ca^(2+)-dependent trans-homodimerization and constitute the kernel of adherens junctions.Beyond the basic function of cell–cell adhesion,recent progress sheds light the dynamics and interwind interactions of individual E-cadherin–catenin complex with E-cadherin superclusters,contractile actomyosin and mechanics of the cortex and adhesion.The nanoscale architecture of E-cadherin complexes together with cis-interactions and interactions with cortical actomyosin adjust to junctional tension and mechano-transduction by reinforcement or weakening of specific features of the interactions.Although post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation and glycosylation have been implicated,their role for specific aspects of in E-cadherin function has remained unclear.Here,we provide an overview of the E-cadherin complex in epithelial cell and tissue morphogenesis focusing on nanoscale architectures by super-resolution approaches and post-translational modifications from recent,in particular in vivo,studies.Furthermore,we review the computational modelling in E-cadherin complexes and highlight how computational modelling has contributed to a deeper understanding of the E-cadherin complexes.

OBJECTIVES To assess the impact of prosthesis choice and aortic valve calcifications on the occurrence of conduction disturb-ances after transcatheter aortic valve implantation(TAVI).METHODS We retrospectively analyzed the preoperative clinical characteristics,electrocardiograms,contrast-enhanced mul-tidetector computed tomography scans and procedural strategies of patients who underwent TAVI in our center between January 2012 and June 2017.Quantification of calcium volume was performed for each aortic cusp above(aortic valve)and below(left ventricular outflow tract,LVOT)the basal plane.Multivariate analysis was performed to evaluate risk factors for the onset of new bundle branch block(BBB),transient and permanent atrioventricular block(tAVB,pAVB).RESULTS A total of 569 patients were included in the study.Six different prostheses were implanted(Edwards Sapien XT,n=162;Edwards Sapien 3,n=240;Medtronic CoreValve,n=27;Medtronic CoreValve Evolut R,n=21;Symetis Acurate,n=56;Sy-metis Acurate neo,n=63).The logistic regression analysis for BBB showed association with baseline left anterior hemiblock.The logistic regression for tAVB,found the prior valvuloplasty and the balloon post-dilatation associated with the outcome.Baseline left and right BBB,degree of oversizing,and LVOT calcification beneath the non-coronary cusp were associated with pAVB.Neither the prosthesis model,nor the use of a self-expandable prosthesis showed statistical significance with the above-men-tioned outcomes on univariate analysis.CONCLUSIONS LVOT calcification beneath the non-coronary cusp,baseline left anterior hemiblock,right BBB,balloon post-dilatation,prior valvuloplasty and oversizing are independently associated with postprocedural conduction disturbances after TAVI.Use of a self-expandable prosthesis may show a lower incidence of AVB,if applied in lower calcified aortic valves.

目的比较急性期与非急性期骨质疏松性胸腰椎骨折(osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures,OVCF)行经皮椎体成形术(percutaneous vertebroplasty PVP)的临床疗效差异。方法回顾性分析2021年1月—12月行PVP手术治疗的骨质疏松性胸腰椎性骨折患者的临床数据资料,根据患者发生骨折到接受手术治疗的时间长短分为急性期组(≤2周,80例)和非急性期组(>2周,56例)。记录两组患者手术时骨水泥注射量,骨水泥弥散分布是否满意以及骨水泥渗漏发生率,比较两组患者手术前后伤椎椎体压缩比(前缘及中部),伤椎Cobb角、疼痛视觉模拟评分(visual analog score,VAS)及Oswestry功能障碍指数(oswestry disability index,ODI)变化。结果两组患者均顺利完成手术,随访时间为(15.92±2.78)个月(12~21个月),无脊髓神经损伤等并发症发生。2组患者术后椎体高度恢复(前缘及中部)、Cobb角、VAS评分及ODI评分,较术前均有明显恢复(P0.05)。结论骨质疏松性胸腰椎骨折患者早期采用椎体成形手术治疗可以有效恢复和维持椎体高度,减轻患者疼痛,提高患者生活质量。

Seed size critically affects grain yield of crops and hence represents a key breeding target.The develop-ment of embryo-nourishing endosperm is a key driver of seed expansion.We here report unexpected dual roles of the transcription factor EIN3 in regulating seed size.These EIN3 functions have remained largely undiscovered because they oppose each other.Capitalizing on the analysis of multiple ethylene biosynthesis mutants,we demonstrate that EIN3 represses endosperm and seed development in a pathway regulated by ethylene.We,in addition,provide evidence that EIN3-mediated synergid nucleus disintegration promotes endosperm expansion.Interestingly,synergid nucleus disintegration is not affected in various ethylene biosynthesis mutants,suggesting that this promoting function of EIN3 is inde-pendent of ethylene.Whereas the growth-inhibitory ethylene-dependent EIN3 action appears to be encoded by sporophytic tissue,the growth-promoting role of EIN3 is induced by fertilization,revealing a generation conflict that converges toward the key signaling component EIN3.

固体催化剂表面电荷会影响其电催化活性.目前,科研人员主要关注的是表面电荷如何影响局部反应区中电势和离子浓度.本文以Pt(111)上的H_(2)O_(2)氧化还原反应为模型,利用从头算分子动力学模拟研究了Pt(111)-水界面的特殊表面电荷效应.Pt(111)上的负表面电荷排斥反应物(H_(2)O_(2))的O-O键,使其远离电极表面,从而导致O-O键断裂的活化能更高.进一步建立了双电层微观动力学模型,定量解释了Pt(111)上H_(2)O_(2)氧化还原反应的pH活性依赖,尤其是电极电位降低时H_(2)O_(2)还原活性的异常抑制.还探讨了该表面电荷效应在不同电解质阳离子、溶液pH值、催化剂晶面和模型参数等情况下的适用性,与其他侧重于表面电荷对固定反应面上局部反应条件的影响机理研究不同,本文给出了一个通过表面电荷调节反应面位置的实例.

A century of National Forest Inventory in Norway–informing past,present,and future decisions

Past:In the early twentieth century,forestry was one of the most important sectors in Norway and an agitateddiscussion about the perceived decline of forest resources due to over-exploitation was ongoing.To base thediscussion on facts,the young state of Norway established Landsskogtakseringen–the world’s first National ForestInventory(NFI).Field work started in 1919 and was carried out by county.Trees were recorded on 10m wide stripswith 1–5 km interspaces.Site quality and land cover categories were recorded along each strip.Results for the firstcounty were published in 1920,and by 1930 most forests below the coniferous tree line were inventoried.The 2ndto 5th inventories followed in the years 1937–1986.As of 1954,temporary sample plot clusters on a 3 km×3 kmgrid were used as sampling units.Present:The current NFI grid was implemented in the 6th NFI from 1986 to 1993,when permanent plots ona 3 km×3 km grid were established below the coniferous tree line.As of the 7th inventory in 1994,the NFIis continuous,and 1/5 of the plots are measured annually.All trees with a diameter≥5 cm are recorded oncircular,250 m2 plots.The NFI grid was expanded in 2005 to cover alpine regions with 3 km×9 km and 9km×9 km grids.In 2012,the NFI grid within forest reserves was doubled along the cardinal directions.Clustered temporary plots are used periodically to facilitate county-level estimates.As of today,more than 120variables are recorded in the NFI including bilberry cover,drainage status,deadwood,and forest health.Landusechanges are monitored and trees outside forests are recorded.Future:Considerable research efforts towards the integration of remote sensing technologies enable thepublication of the Norwegian Forest Resource Map since 2015,which is also used for small area estimation atthe municipality level.On the analysis side,capacity and software for long term growth and yield prognosisare being developed.Furthermore,we foresee the inclusion of further variables for monitoring ecosystemservices,and an increasing demand for map

BACKgroUND Cancer of unknown primary(CUP)is a histological proven malignant tumor whose origin cannot be detected despite careful examination.Most cervical lymph node metastases in CUP(80%)will originate from head and neck sites,and 15%show infiltration of squamous carcinoma cells.The survival rates of CUP are poor:The 5-year-survival rate ranges from 10%to 15%.First-line treatment recommendation for advanced,inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of head/neck(HNSCC)was cetuximab plus platinum-fluorouracil chemotherapy until recently,when checkpoint inhibitors proved clinically beneficial therapies.CASE SUMMARY Here,we report a case of a 42-year-old female patient with cervical and abdominal lymph node and distant bone metastases of an occult primary of the head and neck(squamous cell carcinoma,human papillomavirus positive).The cancer was diagnosed during pregnancy 10 years ago,and after giving birth,the patient was treated with cetuximab plus platinum-fluorouracil chemotherapy achieving complete remission(CR).CR lasted 26 mo when new metastases(abdominal lymph node,lumbar vertebral body)emerged.Both manifestations were irradiated.From then on,the patient has not received any further treatment,and her disease has remained controlled.Ten years after the initial cancer diagnosis,the patient is still alive and in good health,representing an exceptional case of HNSCC.CONCLUSION This case illustrates the exceptional clinical course and benefits of combined therapy approaches in advanced metastatic HNSCC with occult primary.

This contribution is focused on applications of spectroscopic methods for the precise control of deposition processes. In this context, the present study gives a review on selected combinations of conventional and ion deposition techniques with different broadband online spectrophotometric systems. Besides two systems operating in the VIS- and NIR-spectral range in combination with ion processes, also a monochromator system developed for conventional deposition processes in the DUV/VUV-spectral range will be discussed. The considerations will be concluded by a comparison of the major advantages of the specific combinations of processes with online monitoring concepts and by a brief outlook concerning future challenges.
