This paper describes a method based on an energy minimizing deformable model applied to the 3D biomechanical modeling of a set of organs considered as regions of interest (ROI) for radiotherapy. The initial model consists of a quadratic surface that is deformed to the exact contour of the ROI by means of the physical properties of a mass-spring system. The exact contour of each ROI is first obtained using a geodesic active contour model. The ROI is then parameterized by the vibration modes resulting from the deformation process. Once each structure has been defined, the method provides a 3D global model including the whole set of ROIs. This model allows one to describe statistically the most significant variations among its structures. Statistical ROI variations among a set of patients or through time can be analyzed. Experimental results are presented using the pelvic zone to simulate anatomical variations among structures and its application in radiotherapy treatment planning.

Rural geotourism looks at the natural resources of the territory as a means of promoting a specialized,educational,sustainable *** is an increasingly sought-after *** paper presents a rural georoute across a high mountain village,highlighting the remarkable value of the geological heritage of biological trace fossils and physical sedimentary structures exposed on street pavements and façades of houses.A series of tourist georesources were created and implemented:educational and interpretive panels,videos,QR codes,geoapps and games,all of which promote and disseminate the exceptional geological content and the history of the earth through the use of new technologies(smartphones,ipod,etc.).All this is intended as a means to make geotourism a natural tourism,favoring experiences,whilst explaining the natural environment and its temporal and spatial dimensions,offering opportunities for socio-economic development and job creation in rural areas with problems of depopulation.

In any model, Sensitivity Analysis (SA) is a fundamental process to improve the robustness and credibility of the results, as part of validation procedure. Generally, SA determined how the variation in the model output can be apportioned to different sources of variations, and how the given model depends upon the information fed into it. Many complex techniques of SA have been developed within the field of numerical modeling;however, they have limited applications for spatial models, as they do not consider variations in the spatial distributions of the variables included. In this research, a variation in the implementation of a Global Sensitivity Analysis (E-FAST) is proposed in order to include the spatial level. For this purpose the conventional tools available in a raster Geographical Information System (GIS) are used. The procedure has been tested in a simulation of urban growth for the madrid Region (Spain) based on Multi-Criteria Evaluation (MCE) techniques. The results suggest that the inclusion of the spatial perspective in the application of the SA is necessary, because it can modify the factors that have a decisive influence on the results.

The Arabidopsis heterotrimeric G-protein controls defense responses to necrotrophic and vascular fungi. The agbl mutant impaired in the Gβ subunit displays enhanced susceptibility to these pathogens. Gβ/AGB1 forms an obligate dimer with either one of the Arabidopsis Gγsubunits （γ1/AGG1 and γ2/AGG2）. Accordingly, we now demonstrate that the aggl agg2 double mutant is as susceptible as agbl plants to the necrotrophic fungus Plectosphaerella cucumerina. To elucidate the molecular basis of heterotrimeric G-protein-mediated resistance, we performed a comparative transcriptomic analysis of agbl-1 mutant and wild-type plants upon inoculation with P cucumerina. This analysis, together with metab- olomic studies, demonstrated that G-protein-mediated resistance was independent of defensive pathways required for resistance to necrotrophic fungi, such as the salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, ethylene, abscisic acid, and tryptophan-derived metabolites signaling, as these pathways were not impaired in agbl and aggl agg2 mutants. Notably, many mis-reguiated genes in agbl plants were related with cell wall functions, which was also the case in aggl agg2 mutant. Biochemical analyses and Fourier Transform InfraRed （FTIR） spectroscopy of cell walls from G-protein mutants revealed that the xylose content was lower in agbl and aggl agg2 mutants than in wild-type plants, and that mutant walls had similar FTIR spec-tratypes, which differed from that of wild-type plants. The data presented here suggest a canonical functionality of the Gβ and Gγ1/γ2 subunits in the control of Arabidopsis immune responses and the regulation of cell wall composition.

The invasion process involves overcoming certain barriers with negative effects on the biodiversity and ecosystem function. This is the case of the African dung beetle Digitonthophagus gazella, which was introduced in the United States and other countries in Central and South America to help in dung removal activity. The distribution of D. gazella has been documented in the Americas, but in Venezuela there is little information. Trying to understand the process of invasion of the Colombian-Venezuelan savannas and measure their potential impact, the information stored in collections and literature was collected. Five new state records were reported for Venezuela, as well as four scenarios of the process of introduction and establishment of this species in the region. Although the amount of records has increased, the number of individuals sampled is still incipient. The possible areas of invasion and the potential negative effects that the presence of this species exerts in these regions are also discussed. In addition, potential areas of invasion and negative effects of this species are discussed. Results emphasize the importance of generating models of the invasive process in order to design programs that monitor the effects incurred by the presence of D. gazella on native species and propose control and mitigation mechanisms.

Catalytic Performance of La0.6Ca0.4Fe1-xNixO3Perovskites in DME Oxidation

Substituted La0.6Ca0.4Fe1-xNixO3 (0.0 ≤ x ≤ 1.0) perovskite-type oxides prepared by the amorphous citrate method have been investigated as catalysts in the dimethyl ether (DME) oxidation reaction. The samples with an x ≤ 0.3 composition show an orthorhombic structure, while the intermediate compositions with 0.5 ≤ x ≤ 0.9 show a less crystalline orthorhombic perovskite structure with segregated phases that increase upon increasing the Ni content. The progressive substitution of Fe3+ by Ni2+ in La0.6Ca0.4FeO3 entails the progressive formation of oxygen vacancies and Fe4+ species for Ni substitution degrees of x ≤ 0.5. For larger degrees of substitution with x > 0.7, segregated phases and a progressive loss of the perovskite structure are detected. The highest catalytic performance for the total combustion of DME is obtained from equimolar substitution in the B-site position (Fe0.5Ni0.5), in which a large extent of Fe4+ species and oxygen vacancies are present.

Dehydration of Gypsum Rock by Solar Energy: Preliminary Study

The dehydration process of gypsum rock was studied under concentrated solar energy by using a Fresnel lens with power density of 260 Wcm-2. Temperatures higher than 700。C were attained for 1 min of solar exposure. The effect of grain size of sample and radiation exposure time on the formation of bassanite and anhydrite was studied by XRD. The complete transformation of dihydrate into hemihydrate and/or anhydrate phases is complete for the finer size sample. Plaster composed of 92.7% of anhydrite and 7.3% of bassanite was obtained for 5 min of solar exposure. Morphological and textural modifications were followed by SEM and interferometric/confocal profilometer.
