Thymic carcinomas are unusual tumors of the thymus gland. Basaloid carcinoma, an unusal epithelioid varient of a thymic carcinoma, is a rare histopathological subtype, and is not well charecterized in the literature. We present the anatomical and histogical features of a basoloid thymic carcinoma, and discuss current diagnosis and imaging strategies, as well as the operative and oncologic care of this type of thymmic carcinoma. Basaloid carcinomas of the thymus after complete surgical resection and adjuvant therapy genarally have a favorable long-term prognosis.

Dietary protein(P)and carbohydrate(C)have a major impact on the sweet taste ***,it remains unclear whether the balance of P and C influences the sweet taste ***,we use the nutritional geometry framework(NGF)to address the interaction of protein and carbohydrates on sweet taste using Drosophila as a *** results reveal that high-protein,low-carbohydrate(HPLC)diets sensitize to sweet taste and low-protein,high-carbohydrate(LPHC)diets desensitize sweet taste in both male and female *** further investigate the underlying mechanisms of the effects of two diets on sweet taste using RNA *** compared to the LPHC diet,the m RNA expression of genes involved in the metabolism of glycine,serine,and threonine is significantly upregulated in the HPLC diet group,suggesting these amino acids may mediate sweet taste *** further find that sweet sensitization occurs in flies fed with the LPHC diet supplemented with serine and *** study demonstrates that sucrose taste sensitivity is affected by the balance of dietary protein and carbohydrates possibly through changes in serine and threonine.

In this review,we introduce the current state of the art of the growth technology of pure,lightly doped,and heavily doped(solid solution)nonlinear gallium selenide(GaSe)crystals that are able to generate broadband emission from the near infrared(IR)(0.8 mm)through the mid-and far-IR(terahertz(THz))ranges and further into the millimeter wave(5.64 mm)*** the first time,we show that appropriate doping is an efficient method controlling a range of the physical properties of GaSe crystals that are responsible for frequency conversion efficiency and exploitation *** appropriate doping,uniform crystals grown by a modified technology with heat field rotation possess up to 3 times lower absorption coefficient in the main transparency window and THz ***,doping provides the following benefits:raises by up to 5 times the optical damage threshold;almost eliminates two-photon absorption;allows for dispersion control in the THz range independent of the mid-IR dispersion;and enables crystal processing in arbitrary directions due to the strengthened ***,doped GaSe demonstrated better usefulness for processing compared with GaSe grown by the conventional technology and up to 15 times higher frequency conversion efficiency.

Background: Polyamines stimulate DNA transcription and m RNA translation for protein synthesis in trophectoderm cells, as well as proliferation and migration of cells; therefore, they are essential for development and survival of conceptuses(embryo/fetus and placenta). The ovine conceptus produces polyamines via classical and non-classical pathways. In the classical pathway, arginine(Arg) is transformed into ornithine, which is then decarboxylated by ornithine decarboxylase(ODC1) to produce putrescine which is the substrate for the production of spermidine and spermine. In the non-classical pathway, Arg is converted to agmatine(Agm) by arginine decarboxylase(ADC), and Agm is converted to putrescine by agmatinase(AGmAT).methods: morpholino antisense oligonucleotides(mAOs) were designed and synthesized to inhibit translational initiation of the m RNAs for ODC1 and ADC, in ovine ***: The morphologies of mAO control, mAO-ODC1, and mAO-ADC conceptuses were normal. Double knockdown of ODC1 and ADC(mAO-ODC1:ADC) resulted in two phenotypes of conceptuses; 33% of conceptuses appeared to be morphological y and functional y normal(phenotype a) and 67% of the conceptuses presented an abnormal morphology and functionality(phenotype b). Furthermore, mAO-ODC1:ADC(a) conceptuses had greater tissue concentrations of Agm,putrescine, and spermidine than mAO control conceptuses, while mAO-ODC1:ADC(b) conceptuses only had greater tissue concentrations of Agm. Imaging sentinel lymph nodes （SLN） could provide us with critical information about the progression of a cancerous disease. Real-time high-resolution intrao- perative photoacoustic imaging （PAI） in conjunction with a near-infrared （NIR） probe may offer opportunities for the immediate imaging for direct identification and resection of SLN or collecting tissue samples. In this work a commercially amenable synthetic methodology is revealed for fabricating luminescent carbon nanoparticles with rapid clearance properties. A one-pot ＂green＂ technique is pursued, which involved rapid surface passivation of carbon nanopartides with organic macromolecules （e.g., polysorbate, polyethyleneglycol） in solvent-free conditions. Interestingly, the naked carbon nanoparticles are derived for the first time, from commercial food grade honey. Surface coated particles are markedly smaller （-7 nm） than previously explored particles （gold, single-walled carbon nanotubes, copper） for SLN imaging. The results indicate an exceptionally rapid signal enhancement （-2 min） of the SLN. Owing to their strong optical absorption in the NIR region, tiny size and rapid lymphatic transport, this platform offers great potential for faster resection of SLN and may lower complications caused in axillary investigation by mismarking with dyes or low-resolution imaging techniques.

The archetypal 3d mott insulator hematite,Fe_(2)O_(3),is one of the basic oxide components playing an important role in mineralogy of Earth’s lower *** high pressure-temperature behavior,such as the electronic properties,equation of state,and phase stability is of fundamental importance for understanding the properties and evolution of the Earth’s ***,we study the electronic structure,magnetic state,and lattice stability of Fe_(2)O_(3)at ultra-high pressures using the density functional plus dynamical mean-field theory(DFT+DmFT)*** the vicinity of a mott transition,Fe_(2)O_(3) is found to exhibit a series of complex electronic,magnetic,and structural *** particular,it makes a phase transition to a metal with a post-perovskite crystal structure and site-selective local moments upon compression above 75 *** show that the site-selective phase transition is accompanied by a charge disproportionation of Fe ions,with Fe^(3±δ)and δ~0.05–0.09,implying a complex interplay between electronic correlations and the *** results suggest that site-selective local moments in Fe_(2)O_(3) persist up to ultra-high pressures of~200–250 GPa,i.e.,sufficiently above the core-mantle *** latter can have important consequences for understanding of the velocity and density anomalies in the Earth’s lower mantle.

All plants including cotton host a wide range of microorganisms as endophytes. There is a growing appreciation of the prevalence, ecological significance and management potential of facultative fungal endophytes in protecting plants from pests, pathogens and environmental stressors. Hemipteran sucking bugs have emerged as major pests across the U.S. cotton belt, reducing yields directly by feeding on developing reproductive structures and indirectly by vectoring plant pathogens. We used no-choice and simultaneous choice assays to examine the host selection behavior of western tarnished plant bugs （Lygus hesperus） and southern green stink bugs （Nezara viridula） in response to developing flower buds and fruits from cotton plants colonized by 1 of 2 candidate beneficial fungal endophytes, Phialemonium inflatum or Beauveria bassiana. Both insect species exhibited strong negative responses to flower buds （L. hesperus） and fruits （N. viridula） from plants that had been colonized by candidate endophytic fungi relative to control plants under both no-choice and choice conditions. Behavioral responses of both species indicated that the insects were deterred prior to contact with plant tissues from endophyte-colonized plants, suggesting a putative role for volatile compounds in mediating the negative response. Our results highlight the role of fungal endophytes as plant mutualists that can have positive effects on plant resistance to pests.

Whispering-gallery microcavities have been used to realize a variety of efficient parametric nonlinear optical processes through the enhanced light–matter interaction brought about by supporting multiple high quality factor and small modal volume *** to such studies is the ability to control the relative frequencies of the cavity modes,so that frequency matching is achieved to satisfy energy *** this is done by tailoring the resonator cross *** so modifies the frequencies of all of the cavity modes,that is,the global dispersion profile,which may be undesired,for example,in introducing competing nonlinear ***,we demonstrate a frequency engineering tool,termed multiple selective mode splitting(mSmS),that is independent of the global dispersion and instead allows targeted and independent control of the frequencies of multiple cavity *** particular,we show controllable frequency shifts up to 0.8 nm,independent control of the splitting of up to five cavity modes with optical quality factors≳10^5,and strongly suppressed frequency shifts for untargeted *** mSmS technique can be broadly applied to a wide variety of nonlinear optical processes across different material platforms and can be used to both selectively enhance processes of interest and suppress competing unwanted processes.
