Objective:Stool DNA(sDNA)tests offer a noninvasive form of colon cancer screening for pa-tients,and although the test is expected to increase uptake of colon cancer screening,it is unknown if patients’perceptions of the sDNA test differ according to race and other patient ***:We conducted a self-administered survey of patients undergoing both a colonoscopy and an sDNA test to evaluate perceptions of sDNA ***:Of the 613 participants who were sent surveys,423 responded(69%response rate).Respondents self-identified as African American(n=127,30%),Caucasian(n=284,67%),and other ethnicity(n=12,3%).In general,participants found the sDNA test more suitable than a colonos-copy(n=309,75%).In univariate analyses,a higher percentage of Caucasians as compared with African Americans found the sDNA test more suitable than a colonoscopy(89%vs.76%,pmore Caucasians than African Americans preferred the sDNA test(43%vs.32%,pment for covariates reduced these racial differences to no significance.A family history of colo-rectal cancer remains a significant factor for patient’s preferences for screening regardless of ***:Our study shows no racial differences in the perception of and preference for sDNA testing for colon *** to increase the uptake of sDNA testing may help reduce racial disparities in colorectal cancer.

Background Asian population are at increased risk of bleeding during the warfarin treatment,so the recommended optimal international normalized ratio(INR)level may be lower in Asians than in *** aim of this prospective multicenter study was to determine the optimal INR level in Thai patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation(NVAF).methods Patients with NVAF who were on warfarin for stroke prevention were recruited from 27 hospitals in the nationwide COOL-AF registry in *** collected demographic data,medical history,risk factors for stroke and bleeding,concomitant disease,electrocardiogram and laboratory data including INR and antithrombotic *** measurements included ischemic stroke/transient ischemic attack(TIA)and major *** INR level was assessed by the calculation of incidence density for six INR ranges(mean age of patients was 68.5±10.6 *** mean follow-up duration was 25.7±10.6 *** were 63 ischemic stroke/TIA and 112 major bleeding *** lowest prevalence of ischemic stroke/TIA and major bleeding events occurred within the INR range of 2.0–2.99 for patientsmic stroke/TIA and bleeding in the Thai population was 2.0–2.99 for patientsmajor bleeding and ischemic stroke/TIA were both higher than the rates reported in Western population.

In tomato, the NBARC-LRR resistance （R） protein Prf acts in concert with the Pto or Fen kinase to determine immunity against Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato （Pst）. Prf-mediated defense signaling is initiated by the recognition of two sequence-unrelated Pst-secreted effector proteins, AvrPto and AvrPtoB, by tomato Pto or Fen. Prf detects these inter- actions and activates signaling leading to host defense responses including localized programmed cell death （PCD） that is associated with the arrest of Pst growth. We found that Prf variants with single amino acid substitutions at D1416 in the IHD motif （isoleucine-histidine-aspartic acid） in the NBARC domain cause effector-independent PCD when transiently expressed in leaves of Nicotiana benthamiana, suggesting D1416 plays an important role in activation of Prf. The N-ter- minal region of Prf （NPrf） and the LRR domain are required for this autoactive Prf cell death signaling but dispensable for accumulation of the PrfD1416V protein. Significantly, co-expression of the Prf LRR but not NPrf, with PrfD1416v, AvrPto/Pto, AvrPtoB/Pto, an autoactive form of Pro （PtoY207D）, or Fen completely suppresses PCD. However, the Prf LRR does not in- terfere with PCD caused by Rpi-blblD475v a distinct R protein-mediated PCD signaling event, or that caused by overex- pression of mAPKKKα, a protein acting downstream of Prf. Furthermore, we found the PrfD1416V protein is unable to accumulate in plant cells when co-expressed with the Prf LRR domain, likely explaining the cell death suppression. The mechanism for the LRR-induced degradation of PrfD1416V is unknown but may involve interference in the intramo- lecular interactions of Prf or to binding of the unattached LRR to other host proteins that are needed for Prf stability.

Background: Phosphodiesterase inhibitors (PDI) are used in cardiac surgery to improve and stabilize cardiac function after surgery. The aim of this study is to evaluate changes in hemodynamics and early outcomes when PDI (Inocor/inamrinone) is given in terminal warm blood cardioplegia to on-pump CABG only patients and compare results with patients who did not receive the drug. material and methods: From April 2003 through September 2004 241 pts underwent elective on-pump CABG only surgery. 141 pts received Inocor in the terminal warm blood cardioplegia (Group 1) and 100 pts did not (Group 2). Results: Demographic data, preoperative EuroSCORE risk scores and operative details were similar. Of pts preoperatively in sinus rhythm (SR) 80.15% in Group 1 and 69.79% in Group 2 regained spontaneous SR (p = 0.07) after release of crossclamp. Inotropic support was needed in 5 pts in Group 1 and in 12 pts in Group 2, p = 0.02. Post cardiopulmonary by-pass (CPB) IABP support was needed for 4 pts in Group 2 and none for Group 1 pts, p = 0.01. There was no operative mortality in either Group and hospital/30 day mortality was similar (3/2.13% vs 3/3.00%, p = 0.69). There were no statistical difference in stay in postoperative intensive care unit (p = 0.15), total hospital stay (p = 0.07), appearance of postoperative atrial fibrillation (p = 0.23) or appearance of postoperative kidney injury (p = 0.27). Post CPB cardiac index improved 16.90% in Group1but decreased 1.49% in Group 2, p mean arterial pressure decreased 7.46%in Group 1 pts and 5.08% in Group 2 pts, p = 0.002, but no pts in either Group needed medication for too low blood pressure. Systemic vascular resistance decreased 28.40% in Group 1 and 9.02% in Group 2, p mrinone in terminal warm blood cardioplegia (hot shot) is safe and effective way to improve and stabilize cardiac function after on-pump CABG surgery but does not affect short-term outcomes.

Strain engineering as one of the most powerful techniques for tuning optical and electronic properties of III-nitrides requires reliable methods for strain *** this work,we reveal,that the linear model based on the experimental data limited to within a small range of biaxial strains(man study of strain with nanometer-scale spatial resolution is not valid for the binary wurtzite-structure group-III nitrides GaN and ***,we found that the discrepancy between the experimental values of strain and those calculated via Raman spectroscopy increases as the strain in both GaN and AlN ***,a new model has been developed to describe the strain-induced Raman frequency shift in GaN and AlN for a wide range of biaxial strains(up to 2.5%).Finally,we proposed a new approach to correlate the Raman frequency shift and strain,which is based on the lattice coherency in the epitaxial layers of superlattice structures and can be used for a wide range of materials.
