Effect of organic mineral sup.lementation in reducing oxidative stress in Holstein calves during short‑term heat stress and recovery conditions

Background This study investigated the effects of inorganic and organic minerals on p.ysiological resp.nses,oxidative stress reduction,and rumen microbiota in Holstein bull calves(123.81±9.76 kg;5 months old)during short-term heat stress(HS)and recovery *** Holstein calves were randomly assigned to four treatment group.:no mineral sup.lementation(Con),inorganic minerals(IM),organic minerals(OM),and high-concentration organic minerals(HOM)and two thermal environments(HS and recovery)using 4×2 factorial arrangement in a crossover design of four p.riods of 35 *** were maintained in a temp.rature-controlled *** exp.rimental p.riod consisted of 14 d of HS,14 d of recovery condititon,and a 7-d washing *** Body temp.rature and resp.ration rate were higher in HS than in the recovery conditions(p.0.05).Selenium concentration in serum was high in the HOM-sup.lemented calves in both HS(90.38μg/dL)and recovery p.riods(102.00μg/dL)(p.0.05).During the HS p.riod,the serum cortisol was 20.26 ng/mL in the HOM group.which was 5.60 ng/mL lower than in the control group.p.0.05).The total antioxidant status was the highest in the OM group.2.71 mmol Trolox equivalent/L),followed by the HOM group.during HS,whereas it was highest in the HOM group.2.58 mmol Trolox equivalent/L)during the recovery p.riod(p.0.05).p.asma malondialdehyde and HSp.0 levels were decreased by HOM sup.lementation during the HS and recovery p.riods,whereas SOD and Gp. levels were not significantly affected(p.0.05).The p.incip.l coordinate analysis rep.esented that the overall rumen microbiota was not influenced by mineral sup.lementation;however,temp.rature-induced microbial structure shifts were indicated(p.RMANOVA:p.0.05).At the p.ylum level,Firmicutes and Actinobacteria decreased,whereas Fibrobacteres,Sp.rochaetes,and Tenericutes increased(p.0.05),under HS *** genus Trep.nema increased under HS conditions,while Christensenella was higher in recovery conditions(p.0.05).Conc

CuS is an encouraging p.otoelectrode candidate that meets the essential requirements for efficient solar-to-hydrogen p.oduction,but it has not been thoroughly studied.A CuS light absorber layer is grown by the self-assembly of cop.er and sulfur p.ecursors on a carbon p.p.r(Cp.***,rGO is introduced as a buffer layer to control the op.ical and electrical p.op.rties of the *** well-ordered microstructural arrangement sup.resses the recombination loss of electrons and holes owing to enhanced charge-carrier generation,sep.ration,and *** p.tential reaching 10 mA cm^(-2)in 1.0 M KOH solution is significantly lowered to 0.87 V,and the p.otocurrent density at 1.23 V is 94.7 mA cm^(-2).The comp.tational result reveals that the p.tential-determining step.is sensitive to O^(*)stability;the lower stability of O^(*)in the thin layer of CuS/rGO decreases the free-energy gap.between the initial and final states of the p.tential-determining step.resulting in a lowering of the onset *** faradaic efficiency for the p.otoelectrochemical oxygen evolution reaction in the op.imized 2CuS/1rGO/Cp.p.otoanode is 98.60%,and the ap.lied bias p.oton-to-current and the solar-to-hydrogen efficiencies are 11.2%and 15.7%,resp.ctively,and its ultra-high p.rformance is maintained for 250 *** record-breaking achievement indices may be a trigger for establishing a green hydrogen economy.

Surfaces of amp.itude 1 in the ordinary p.ojective sp.ce are of the general typ., but this need not be the case in weighted p.ojective sp.ces. Indeed, there are 4 classes of quasi-smooth weighted hyp.rsurfaces in p.1, 2, a, b） of amp.itude 1 with an ellip.ic p.ncil cut out by hyp.rp.anes. Their moduli sp.ces are constructed,and the monodromy of their universal families is determined as well as their p.riod map. which turn out to be generally immersive. For those that are not, a mixed Torelli theorem holds. We added an ap.lication to certain comp.ctifications of moduli sp.ces of surfaces of the general typ. with K2= 1, p.= 2 and q = 0 as a follow up.of Gallardo et al.（2022）, as well as detailed SageMath-calculations. The ap.endix written by Wim Nijgh shows that the general member of the typ.s 1 and 2 ellip.ic family has a “trivial” p.card lattice, i.e., is sp.nned by fiber comp.nents and a multisection.

Near-surface wind sp.ed exerts p.ofound imp.cts on many environmental issues,while the long-term(≥60 years)trend and multidecadal variability in the wind sp.ed and its underlying causes in global high-elevation and mountainous areas(e.g.,Tibetan p.ateau)remain largely ***,by examining homogenized wind sp.ed data from 104 meteorological stations over the Tibetan p.ateau for 1961-2020 and ERA5 reanalysis datasets,we investigated the variability and long-term trend in the near-surface wind sp.ed and revealed the role p.ayed by the westerly and Asian *** results show that the homogenized annual wind sp.ed disp.ays a decreasing trend(-0.091 m s^(−1)p.r decade,p.0.05),with the strongest in sp.ing(-0.131 m s^(−1)p.r decade,p.0.05),and the weakest in autumn(-0.071 m s^(−1)p.r decade,p.0.05).There is a distinct multidecadal variability of wind sp.ed,which manifested in an p.ominent increase in 1961-1970,a sustained decrease in 1970-2002,and a consistent increase in *** observed decadal variations are likely linked to large-scale atmosp.eric circulation,and the correlation analysis unveiled a more imp.rtant role of westerly and East Asian winter monsoon in modulating near-surface wind changes over the Tibetan *** p.tential p.ysical p.ocesses associated with westerly and Asian monsoon changes are in concordance with wind sp.ed change,in terms of overall weakened horizontal air flow(i.e.,geostrop.ic wind sp.ed),declined vertical thermal and dynamic momentum transfer(i.e.,atmosp.eric stratification thermal instability and vertical wind shear),and varied Tibetan p.ateau *** indicates that to varying degrees these p.ocesses may have contributed to the changes in near-surface wind sp.ed over the Tibetan *** study has imp.ications for wind p.wer p.oduction and soil wind erosion p.evention in the Tibetan p.ateau.

Effects of different ratios of soluble to insoluble dietary fiber on growth p.rformance and intestinal health of p.glets

This study investigated the imp.ct of different ratios of soluble to insoluble dietary fiber (SDF:IDF) formulations by sugar beet p.lp.(SBp. sup.lementation on p.glet growth p.rformance, nutrient digestibility, immune function, intestinal morp.ology, intestinal microbiota and intestinal health. A total of 60 crossbred p.glets (Duroc x [Landrace x Yorkshire]) at 40 d old with body weight of 10.0 +/- 0.3 kg were randomly assigned to 5 treatments with 6 rep.icates p.r treatment and 2 p.glets p.r rep.icate in a 21d trial. The dietary treatments included a corn-soybean meal diet (0% SBp.sup.lementation; CON), and diets sup.lemented with 2%, 4%, 6%, and 8% SBp. rep.esenting different SDF:IDF ratios at 10.16%, 13.53%, 16.79%, 19.86%, and 24.81%, resp.ctively. The results indicated that the 8% SBp.treatment had a negative effect on feed-to-gain ratio (linear, p.= 0.009) comp.red with the CON treatment (p.= 0.021). The ap.arent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of crude p.otein was lower in treatments sup.lemented with SBp.(p.= 0.002) and showed a linear decrease (p.= 0.001), while the ATTD of IDF showed a linear increase (p.= 0.037) in four SBp.treatments comp.red to the CON treatment. The 4% SBp.treatment increased serum concentrations of triglyceride (quadratic, p.= 0.019) and K (linear, p.p.= 0.015) comp.red with the CON treatment. The concentrations of Cit, Cys, Ile, Leu, Orn, Arg, taurine, urea, 1-methylhistidine, a-aminoadip.c acid, aaminobutyric acid and cystathionine in the 4% SBp.treatment were highest among all treatments (p.p.treatment were higher than those in the CON treatment (p.p.otein-coup.ed recep.or 41 mRNA exp.ession (p.p.red with the CON treatment and imp.oved th

Sexual selection in cane toads Rhinella marina： A male＇s body size affects his success and his tactics

Abstract Male body size can p.ay an imp.rtant role in the mating systems of anuran amp.ibians. We conducted labora- tory-based trials with cane toads Rhinella （Bufo） marina from an invasive p.p.lation in the wet-dry trop.cs of northern Australia, to clarify the effects of a male＇s body size on his rep.oductive success and behavior （mate choice）. Males were stimulated with a synthetic hormone to induce rep.oductive readiness. Larger body size enhanced a male toad＇s ability to disp.ace a smaller rival from amp.exus, ap.arently because of p.ysical strength： more force was required to dislodge a larger than a smaller amp.ectant male. A male＇s body size also affected his mate-choice criteria. Males of all body sizes were as likely to attemp. amp.exus with another male as with a female of the same size, and p.eferred larger rather than smaller sexual targets. However, this size p.efe- rence was stronger in larger males and hence, amp.exus was size-assortative. This p.ttern broke down when males were given access to already-amp.ectant male-female p.irs： males of all body sizes readily attemp.ed amp.exus with the p.ir, with no size discrimination. An amp.ectant p.ir p.ovides a larger visual stimulus, and p.olonged amp.exus p.ovides a strong cue for sex iden- tification （one of the individuals involved is almost certainly a female）. Thus, a male cane toad＇s body size affects both his ability to defeat rivals in p.ysical struggles over females, and the criteria he uses when selecting p.tential mates, but the imp.cts of that selectivity dep.nd up.n the context in which mating occurs

Astrocytes, glial cells that interact extensively with neurons and other sup.ort cells throughout the central nervous system, have recently come under the sp.tlight for their p.tential contribution to, or p.tential regenerative role in a host of neurodegenerative disorders. It is becoming increasingly clear that astrocytes, in concert with microglial cells, activate intrinsic immunological p.thways in the setting of neurodegenerative injury, although the direct and indirect consequences of such activation are still largely unknown. We review the current literature on the astrocyte’s role in several neurodegenerative diseases, as well as highlighting recent advances in genetic manip.lation of astrocytes that may p.ove critical to modulating their resp.nse to neurological injury, p.tentially combatting neurodegenerative damage.

A decomp.sition ap.roach to the design of a multiferroic memory bit

The objective of this p.p.r is to p.esent a methodology for the design of a memory bit to minimize the energy required to write data at the bit level. By straining a ferromagnetic nickel nano-dot by means of a p.ezoelectric substrate, its magnetization vector rotates between two stable states defined as a 1 and 0 for digital memory. The memory bit geometry, actuation mechanism and voltage control law were used as design variables. The ap.roach used was to decomp.se the overall design p.ocess into simp.er sub-p.oblems whose structure can be exp.oited for a more efficient solution. This method minimizes the number of fully dynamic coup.ed finite element analyses required to converge to a near op.imal design, thus decreasing the comp.tational time for the design p.ocess. An in-p.ane samp.e design p.oblem is p.esented to illustrate the advantages and flexibility of the p.ocedure.
