Hydration status,body composition,and anxiety status in aeronautical military personnel from Spain:a crosss-ectional study

Background: An adequate hydration status is critical to ensure efficiency during mental and physical *** goal was to assess the hydration status of a Spanish group of aeronautical military men and to determine the association of hydration status with body composition and ***: A total of 188 men were evaluated through a validated hydration questionnaire, anthropometric and biochemical parameters, and an anxiety questionnaire. Based on these methods, the criteria of hydration were ***: Of the total sample, 81% met the hydration criteria(urine color = well hydrated, water balance ≥0 ml, and total water intake/weight ≥35 ml/kg), and 19% did not meet the hydration criteria(urine color = not sufficiently hydrated or dehydrated, water balance <0 ml, and total water intake/weight <35 ml/kg). Subjects not meeting the hydration criteria had lower urine pH, negative water balance, and lower water intake. The latter also had higher anxiety status(score=4 vs. 3, P=0.026), weight [(84.7±10.5) kg vs.(80.5±10.2) kg], body mass index [(26.3±3.1) kg/m;vs.(25.2±2.8) kg/m;], body fat [(22.3±5.6)% vs.(18.3±6.5)%], urine specific gravity, and urine color. Using a logistic binary regression model, hydration status was related significantly with the percentage of body fat(P=0.004), but no relation was found with age, comorbidities, or medications. Furthermore, total water intake/weight was positively correlated with percentage of body water(r=0.357, P=0.000) and negatively with body fat(kg)(r=–0.427, P=0.000), percentage of body fat(r=–0.405, P=0.000), and waist/hip ratio(r=–0.223, P=0.002). Based on a linear regression model, total water intake/weight was related significantly with percentage of body fat(P=0.001) and percentage of body water content(P=0.035). A Script-Based Prototyping Framework to Boost Agile-UX Developments

Prototypes are described as a successful mechanism to incorporate user-experience design （UX） into Agile de- velopments, but their integration into such developments is not exempt from difficulties. Prototypes and final applications are often developed using different tools, which hinders the collaboration between designers and developers and also compli- cates reuse. Moreover, integrating stakeholders such as clients and users into the Agile process of designing, evaluating, and refining a prototype is not straightforward mainly because of its iterative nature. In an attempt to tackle these problems, this work presents the design and implementation of a new framework in which scripting languages are used to code prototyped behaviors. Prototyping is then treated as a separate aspect that coexists and runs together with final functionality. Using this framework communication is enhanced because designers and developers work in parallel on the same software artifact. Prototypes are fully reused and iteratively added with final functionality while prototyped behaviors are removed. They can be also modified on the fly to implement participatory design techniques.

Nonlinear dynamics of the reversed shear Alfvén eigenmode in burning plasmas

In a tokamak fusion reactor operated at steady state,the equilibrium magnetic field is likely to have reversed shear in the core region,as the noninductive bootstrap current profile generally peaks *** reversed shear Alfvén eigenmode(RSAE)as a unique branch of the shear Alfvén wave in this equilibrium,can exist with a broad spectrum in wavenumber and frequency,and be resonantly driven unstable by energetic particles(EP).After briefly discussing the RSAE linear properties in burning plasma condition,we review several key topics of the nonlinear dynamics for the RSAE through both wave-EP resonance and wave-wave coupling channels,and illustrate their potentially important role in reactor-scale fusion *** means of simplified hybrid MHD-kinetic simulations,the RSAEs are shown to have typically broad phase space resonance structure with both circulating and trapped EP,as results of weak/vanishing magnetic shear and relatively low *** the route of wave-EP nonlinearity,the dominant saturation mechanism is mainly due to the transported resonant EP radially decoupling with the localized RSAE mode structure,and the resultant EP transport generally has a convective *** saturated RSAEs also undergo various nonlinear couplings with other collective *** typical routes as parametric decay and modulational instability are studied using nonlinear gyrokinetic theory,and applied to the scenario of spontaneous excitation by a finite amplitude pump *** RSAEs could naturally couple and induce the spectral energy cascade into a low frequency Alfvénic mode,which may effectively transfer the EP energy to fuel ions via collisionless Landau ***,zero frequency zonal field structure could be spontaneously excited by modulation of the pump RSAE envelope,and may also lead to saturation of the pump RSAE by both scattering into stable domain and local distortion of the continuum structure.

Morphological and Molecular Characterization of Novel Salt-Tolerant Rice Germplasms from the Philippines and Bangladesh

To screen for new sources of salinity tolerance, 688 traditional rice varieties from the Philippines and Bangladesh were obtained, and their tolerance to hypersaline conditions at the seedling stage was examined. A total of 29 Philippine lines and 15 Bangladeshi lines were scored as *** assessment(plant height, biomass and Na-K ratio) revealed that among the 44 salt-tolerant accessions, Casibon, Kalagnon and Ikogan had significantly higher relative shoot length difference, relative shoot growth reduction and shoot Na-K ratio than the tolerant check ***, AC and Akundo exhibited significantly higher Na-K ratios than the other genotypes. The genetic diversity of the 44 genotypes was assessed using 34 simple sequence repeat markers. A total of 133 alleles were detected across all loci. Cluster analysis showed that AC, Akundo and Kuplod were clustered along with FL478, indicating a strong genetic relatedness between these genotypes. IR29(susceptible check) was singly separated. The haplotype analysis revealed that none of the 44 genotypes had a similar allele combination as FL478. These accessions are of interest since each genotype might be different from the classical salinity-tolerant Pokkali.

Age structure of a lizard along an elevational gradient reveals nonlinear lifespan patterns with altitude

Lifespan is one of the main components of life *** lifespans can be expected in marginal ***,in the case of ectotherms,lifespan typically increases with altitude,even though temperature-one of the main factors to determine ectotherms'life history-declines with *** pattern can be explained by the fact that a shorter activity time favors *** this study,we analyzed how lifespan and other life-history traits of the lizard Psammodromus algirus vary along a 2,200 m elevational gradient in Sierra Nevada(SE Spain).Populations at inter-mediate altitudes(1,200-1,700 m),corresponding to the optimal habitat for this species,had the shortest lifespans,whereas populations inhabiting marginal habitats(at both low and at high altitudes)lived ***,this lizard did not follow the typical pattern of ectotherms,as it also lived longer at the lower limit of its distribution,nor did it show a longer lifespan in areas with optimal *** results might be explained by a complex combination of different gradients along the mountain,namely that activity time decreases with altitude whereas food availability *** could explain why lifespan was maximum at both high(limited activity time)and low(limited food availability)altitudes,resulting in similar lifespans in areas with contrasting environmental *** findings also indicated that reproductive investment and body condition increase with elevation,suggesting that alpine populations are locally adapted.

Comparative Analysis of Different Evaluation Functions for Protein Structure Prediction Under the HP Model

The HP model for protein structure prediction abstracts the fact that hydrophobicity is a dominant force in the protein folding process. This challenging combinatorial optimization problem has been widely addressed through metaheuristics. The evaluation function is a key component for the success of metaheuristics; the poor discrimination of the conventional evaluation function of the HP model has motivated the proposal of alternative formulations for this component. This comparative analysis inquires into the effectiveness of seven different evaluation functions for the HP model. The degree of discrimination provided by each of the studied functions, their capability to preserve a rank ordering among potential solutions which is consistent with the original objective of the HP model, as well as their effect on the performance of local search methods are analyzed. The obtained results indicate that studying alternative evaluation schemes for the HP model represents a highly valuable direction which merits more attention.

Early mortality and safety after transcatheter aortic valve replacement using the SAPIEN 3 in nonagenarians

Background Transcatheter aortic valve replacement （TAVR） has been performed for many elderly patients with severe aortic stenosis （AS）. The SAPIEN 3 is one of the latest balloon-expandable prosthesis. This study aimed to investigate the early clinical outcomes after TAVR using the SAPIEN 3 in nonagenarians. Methods A total of 97 consecutive patients underwent TAVR for severe AS between De- cember 2015 and December 2016. Of these, 85 consecutive patients who underwent TAVR using the SAPIEN 3 were included. According to the age, patients were classified into age 〉 90 years group （17 patients） or age 〈 90 years group （68 patients）. The clinical outcomes in- cluding all-cause mortality and composite endpoint of early safety at 30 days were evaluated. Results The Society of Thoracic Surgeons score in age 〉 90 years group was higher than age 〈 90 years group （12.3 ±6.1% vs. 8.5 ± 5.1%, P 〈 0.01）. There was no significant difference in 30-day mortality between the two groups. However, the life-threatening bleeding and major vascular complications in age 〉 90 years group were greater than age 〈 90 years group （11.8% vs. 1.5%, P = 0.04 and 11.8% vs. 1.5%, P = 0.04, respectively）. The composite endpoint of early safety at 30 days was similar between the two groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that prior myocardial infarction was an independent predictor of the composite endpoint of early safety （odds ratio： 4.76, 95% confidence interval： 1.02-22.21, P = 0.047）. Conclusions The early mortality and safety after TAVR using the SAPIEN 3 in nonagenarians were similar and acceptable despite of higher operative risk.
