Stable isotope paleohydrology and chemostratigraphy of the Albian Wayan Formation from the wedge-top depozone,North American Western Interior Basin

Understanding of the role of atmospheric moisture and heat transport in the climate system of the Cretaceous greenhouse world represents a major challenge in Earth system science. Stable isotopic paleohydrologic data from mid-Cretaceous paleosols in North America, from paleoequatorial to paleoArctic latitudes, have been used to constrain the oxygen isotope mass balance of the Albian hydrologic cycle. Over the range from 40°-50°N paleolatitude, sideritic paleosols predominate, indicating paleoenvironments with positive precipitation-evaporation （P-E） balances. Local exceptions occur on leeward side of the Sevier Orogen, where calcic paleosols in the wedge-top depozone record paleoenvironments with negative P-E balances in the orographic rain shadow. Stratigraphic sections in the Wayan Formation of Idaho （WF） were sampled from the wedge-top depozone. The units consist of stacked m-scale mudstone paleosols separated by m-scale sandstone-siltstone beds. Sections were sampled for organic carbon isotope profiles, and B-horizons from 6 well-developed paleosols were sampled for detrital zircons to determine maximum depositional ages. The first of these from the WF has produced a U-Pb concordia age of 101.0±1.1 Ma. This same WF section has produced a stratigraphic trend of upwardly decreasing δ18C values ranging from -24‰ upwards to -27‰ VPdB, suggesting correlation to the late Albian C15 C-isotope segment. Pedogenic carbonates from the WF principally consist of micritic calcite, with carbon-oxygen isotope values that array along meteoric calcite lines （MCLs） with δ18O values that range from -9.47‰ up to -8.39‰ VPdB. At approximately 42°N paleolatitude, these MCL values produce calculated paleoprecipitation values of-8.12‰ to -7.04‰ VSMOW, a range that is consistent with the estimates produced from other proxies at the same paleolatitudes across North America. BACKGROUNd Italy retains a distinctive organization of mental health services according to a community-based model of care with a multidisciplinary team serving a welldefined catchment area under the coordination of the local department of mental *** coronavirus disease 2019(COVId-19)pandemic is forcing Italian mental health services to develop new organizational strategies at all levels of care in order to face the associated *** To explore factors associated with changes in psychiatric admissions to an inpatient psychiatric unit located in Lombardia Region,*** All hospital admissions(n=44)were recorded to an inpatient psychiatric unit during a three month national lockdown in Italy in 2020 and compared with those occurring over the same time period in 2019(n=71).For each admission,a 20-item checklist was completed to identify factors leading to *** analyses were performed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences for Windows,release ***-square test(or Fisher’s exact test)and Mann-Whitney U-test were applied,where *** Hospital admissions dropped by 38%during the COVId-19 *** significant differences were found in demographics,clinical variables associated with hospital admissions and length of stay between 2019 and *** with 2019,a significantly greater proportion of hospital admissions in 2020 were related to difficulties in organizing care programs outside the hospital(chi-square=4.91,df 1,one-way P=0.035)and in patients’family contexts(chi-square=3.71,df 1,one-way P=0.049).On the other hand,logistic and communication difficulties pertaining to residential facilities and programs were significantly more common in 2019 than in 2020(chi-square=4.38,df 1,one-way P=0.032).CONCLUSION Admissions to the inpatient psychiatric unit dropped significantly during the COVId-19 pandemic in 2020,with difficulties in organizing care programs outside the hospital and in patients’family contexts

Highly repeatable,nondestructive,and high-throughput measures of above-ground biomass(AGB)and crop growth rate(CGR)are important for wheat improvement *** study evaluates the repeatability of destructive AGB and CGR measurements in comparison to two previously described methods for the estimation of AGB from LidAR:3d voxel index(3dVI)and 3d profile index(3dPI).Across three field experiments,contrasting in available water supply and comprising up to 98 wheat genotypes varying for canopy architecture,several concurrent measurements of LidAR and AGB were made from jointing to *** correlations at discrete events between AGB and the LidAR-derived biomass indices were significant,ranging from 0.31(Pding confidence in the LidAR indices as effective surrogates for *** repeatability of the LidAR biomass indices at discrete events was at least similar to and often higher than AGB,particularly under water *** correlations between calculated CGR for AGB and the LidAR indices were moderate to high and varied between ***,across all experiments,the repeatabilities of the CGR derived from the LidAR indices were appreciably greater than those for AGB,except for the 3dPI in the water-limited *** our experiments,the repeatability of either LidAR index was consistently higher than that of AGB,both at discrete time points and when CGR was *** findings provide promising support for the reliable use of ground-based LidAR,as a surrogate measure of AGB and CGR,for screening germplasm in research and wheat breeding.

Morphological alterations and redox changes associated with hepatic warm ischemia-reperfusion injury

AIM To study the effects of warm ischemia-reperfusion(I/R) injury on hepatic morphology at the ultrastructural level and to analyze the expression of the thioredoxin(TRX)and glutaredoxin(GRX) *** Eleven patients undergoing liver resection were subjected to portal triad clamping(PTC). Liver biopsies were collected at three time points; first prior to PTC(baseline), 20 min after PTC(post-ischemia) and 20 min after reperfusion(post-reperfusion). Electron microscopy and morphometry were used to study and quantify ultrastructural changes, respectively. Additionally, gene expression analysis of TRX and GRX isoforms was performed by quantitative PCR. For further validation of redox protein status, immunogold staining was performed for the isoforms GRX1 and *** Post-ischemia, a significant loss of the liver sinusoidal endothelial cell(LSEC) lining was observed(P = 0.0003) accompanied by a decrease of hepatocyte microvilli in the space of disse. Hepatocellular morphology was well preserved apart from the appearance of crystalline mitochondrial inclusions in 7 out of 11 patients. Postreperfusion biopsies had similar features as post-ischemia with the exception of signs of a reactivation of the LSECs. No changes in the expression of redox-regulatory genes could be observed at mR NA level of the isoforms of the TRX family but immunoelectron microscopy indicated a redistribution of TRX1 within the *** At the ultrastructural level, the major impact of hepatic warm I/R injury after PTC was borne by the LSECs with detachment and reactivation at ischemia and reperfusion, respectively. Hepatocytes morphology were well preserved. Crystalline inclusions in mitochondria were observed in the hepatocyte after ischemia.
