We constr.cted and developed an in-situ cr.ogenic nanomechanical system to study small-scale mechanical behavior.of mater.als at low temper.tur.s. Uniaxial compr.ssion of two body-center.d-cubic （bcc） metals, Nb and W, with diameter. between 400 and 1300 r.m, was studied at r.om temper.tur. and at 165 K. Exper.ments wer. conducted inside of a Scanning Electr.n Micr.scope （SEM） equipped with a nanomechanical module, with simultaneous cooling of sample and diamond tip. Str.ss-str.in data at 165 K exhibited higher.yield str.ngths and mor. extensive str.in bur.ts on aver.ge, as compar.d to those at 298 K. We discuss these differ.nces in the fr.mewor. of nano-sized plasticity and intr.nsic lattice r.sistance. Dislocation dynamics simulations with sur.ace-contr.lled dislocation multiplication wer. used to gain insight into size and temper.tur. effects on defor.ation of nano-sized bcc metals.

AIM:To evaluate whether.the ABO blood gr.up is r.lated to pancr.atic cancer.r.sk in the gener.l population of the United ***:Using the Univer.ity of Pittsbur.h's clinicalpancr.atic cancer.r.gistr.,the blood donor.database fr.m our.local blood bank (Centr.l Blood Bank),and the blood pr.duct r.cipient database fr.m the r.gional tr.nsfusion ser.ice (Centr.lized Tr.nsfusion Ser.ice) in Pittsbur.h,Pennsylvania,we identified 274 pancr.atic cancer.patients with pr.viously deter.ined ser.logical ABO blood gr.up *** ABO blood gr.up fr.quency was compar.d between these patients and 708842 individual,community-based blood donor. who had made donations to Pittsbur.h's Centr.l Blood Bank between 1979 and ***:The fr.quency of blood gr.up A was statistically significantly higher.amongst pancr.atic cancer.patients compar.d to its fr.quency amongst the r.gional blood donor. [47.63% vs 39.10%,odds r.tio (Or.=1.43,P=0.004].Conver.ely,the fr.quency of blood gr.up O was significantly lower.amongst pancr.atic cancer.patients r.lative to the community blood donor. (32.12% vs 43.99%,Or.0.60,P=0.00007).Ther. wer. limited blood gr.up B (n=38) and AB (n=17) pancr.atic cancer.patients;the over.ll P tr.nd value compar.ng patient to donor.blood gr.ups was ***:The ABO blood gr.up is associated with pancr.atic cancer.*** studies should examine the mechanism linking pancr.atic cancer.r.sk to ABO blood gr.up.

AIM： To test the hypothesis that calcium sensing r.ceptor.（CASr. polymor.hisms ar. associated with chr.nic pancr.atitis （CP）, and to deter.ine whether.ser.ne pr.tease inhibitor.Kazal 1type （SPINK1） N34S or.alcohol ar. necessar. co-factor. in its etiology. METHODS： Initially, 115 subjects with pancr.atitis and 66 contr.ls wer. evaluated, of whom 57 patients and 21 contr.ls wer. pr.deter.ined to car.y the high-r.sk SPINK1 N34S polymor.hism. We sequenced CASr.gene exons 2, 3, 4, 5 and 7, ar.as containing the major.ty of r.por.ed polymor.hisms and novel mutations. Based on the initial r.sults, we added 223 patients and 239 contr.ls to analyze thr.e common nonsynonymous single nucleotide polymor.hisms （SNPs） in exon 7 （A986S, r.90G, and Q1011E）. r.SULTS： The CASr.exon 7 r.90G polyr.or.hism was significantly associated with CP （Or. 2.01; 95% CI, 1.12-3.59; P = 0.015）. The association between CASr.r.90G and CP was str.nger.in subjects who r.por.ed moder.te or.heavy alcohol consumption （Or. 3.12; 95% CI, 1.14-9.13; P = 0.018）. Ther. was no association between the var.ous CASr.genotypes and SPINK1 N34S in pancr.atitis. None of the novel CASr.polymor.hisms r.por.ed fr.m Ger.any and India was detected. CONCLUSION： Our.United States-based study confir.ed an association of CASr.and CP and for.the fir.t time demonstr.ted that CASr.r.90G is a significant r.sk factor.for.CP. We also conclude that the r.sk of CP with CASr.r.90G is incr.ased in subjects with moder.te to heavy alcohol consumption.
