Study of corneal biomechanical properties in patients with childhood glaucoma

AIm:To study of corneal biomechanical properties and intraocular pressure(IOP)measured with Corvis Scheimpflug Technology(ST)in patients with childhood glaucoma(CG).mEThODS:Cross-sectional study in which 89 eyes were included 56 of them with *** one eye per patient was *** following variables were obtained from the clinical history and the ophthalmological examination:age,sex,IOP,number of surgeries,and the cup/disc ratio(CDR).The following parameters were recorded using Corvis ST:corrected by biomechanics IOP(b IOP),not corrected IOP(nct IOP),central corneal thickness(CCT),maximum concavity[radius,peak distance(PD)and deformation amplitude],applanation 1 and 2(length and velocity).The mean age was 23±14.55 and 33±19.5 years old for the control group and CG group,*** 36 were males and 53 were *** the CG group,7 patients were controlled only with medical *** had at least one previous goniotomy,19 had at least one trabeculectomy,and 11 had an Ahmed ***:A significant and positive intraclass correlation coefficient was found between Goldman IOP and the IOP measured by Corvis in both *** differences were found between the IOP measured with Corvis and Goldman using a student *** biomechanical parameters,there were differences in the applanation length 2(A-L2),in the applanation velocity 2(A-V2)and in the *** sex,only the applanation length 1(A-L1)was found to be different in control group.A positive and significant Pearson correlation was found between CDR and the ***:Corneal biomechanical properties have shown differences between CG and healthy subjects and also between men and women.

The effect of Ce addition on the morphology of the α（Al）-Al2Cu eutectic in Al-Si-Cu alloy was investigated using thermal analysis, light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, focused ion beam and energy dispersive analysis. The results show that the eutectic α（Al）-Al2Cu forms within small space between dendrites, silicon and AlSiFemn plates. Eutectic Al2Cu is not lamellar but degenerated. however, Al2Cu in Ce-modified alloys is more compact. Ce partially dissolves in Al2Cu, which is a viable reason for the formation of coarser Al2Cu. The addition of Ce also increases the microhardness of theα（Al）-Al2Cu eutectic by almost 10%compared with the basic Al-Si-Cu alloy.

The FAIR principles have been accepted globally as guidelines for improving data-driven science and data management practices, yet the incentives for researchers to change their practices are presently weak. In addition, data-driven science has been slow to embrace workflow technology despite clear evidence of recurring practices. To overcome these challenges, the Canonical Workflow Frameworks for Research(CWFR) initiative suggests a large-scale introduction of self-documenting workflow scripts to automate recurring processes or fragments thereof. This standardised approach, with FAIR Digital Objects as anchors, will be a significant milestone in the transition to FAIR data without adding additional load onto the researchers who stand to benefit most from it. This paper describes the CWFR approach and the activities of the CWFR initiative over the course of the last year or so, highlights several projects that hold promise for the CWFR approaches, including Galaxy, Jupyter Notebook, and RO Crate, and concludes with an assessment of the state of the field and the challenges ahead.

This paper presents a mathematical algorithm that determines the fluid flow velocity vector （direction, intensity and orientation）, based on measured voltages on multi-channel hot-wire anemometer. As the voltage on Constant Temperature hot-wire Anemometer （CTA） is non-linear function of velocity and angle of the fluid, inverse function is also non-linear and has several mathematically correct solutions. In the Laboratory of Non-linear mechanics at the Faculty of mechanical Engineering in Ljubljana, the authors have decided to try developing multi-charmel hot-wire anemometer with constant temperature at which it is possible to select physically correct solutions from several mathematically correct solutions. The mathematical algorithm works correctly if the range of instrument operation is limited for the value of spherical angles ｜φ｜≤ 60°and ｜ψ｜＇1 ≤ 58°.

Tick-borne encephalitis is an infection of central nervous system caused by tick-borne encephalitis virus transmitted to humans predominantly by tick bites. During the last few decades the incidence of the disease has been increasing and poses a growing health problem in almost all endemic European and Asian countries. most cases occur during the highest period of tick activity, in Central Europe mainly from April to November. Tickborne encephalitis is more common in adults than in children. Clinical spectrum of the disease ranges from mild meningitis to severe meningoencephalitis with or without paralysis. Rare clinical manifestations are an abortive form of the disease and a chronic progressive form. A post-encephalitic syndrome, causing long-lasting morbidity that often affects the quality of life develops in up to 50% of patients after acute tick-borne encephalitis. Clinical course and outcome vary by subtype of tick-borne encephalitis virus(the disease caused by the European subtype has milder course and better outcome than the disease caused by Siberian and Far-Easter subtypes), age of patients(increasing age is associated with less favorable outcome), and host genetic factors. Since clinical features and laboratory results of blood and cerebrospinal fluid are nonspecific, the diagnosis must be confirmed by microbiologic findings. The routine laboratory confirmation of the tick-borne encephalitis virus infection is based mainly on the detection of specific Ig m and Ig G antibodies in serum(and cerebrospinal fluid), usually by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. There is no specific antiviral treatment for tick-borne encephalitis. Vaccination can effectively prevent the disease and is indicated for persons living in or visiting tick-borne encephalitis endemic areas.

Children Safety Devices in Brazil—Why Do People Don’t Use Them after the Law?

Introduction: Children safety car devices decrease injuries and death in children. A survey conducted in Brazil in 2009 revealed that only 36.1% of children safely transported. In 2010, a Brazilian law was implemented, obligating the use of safety devices. The aim of this study is to evaluate the use of such devices after the law and the eventual reasons for non-use. methods: A significant sample of Brazilian population aged 18 years or more, which normally carry children until 10 years old answered a survey between August 16 and 25, 2012. The study was conducted in two phases. The first one aimed to raise the proportion and profile of the target population, while the second investigated the children car safety device use (or not). Results: 622 interviews. Children’s transporters are young males (57%), living in a metropolitan area in the South region, concerned about safety and law supervision, with greater education level and income than non-transporters (31%) who are male with lack of information, living in a non-metropolitan area of the Northeast region that would be motivated to use the device by effective law fiscalization or threat of an accident. Conclusion: Two years after the law it is observed that education, income, age, gender and region of origin influence the use/non-use of the safety seats in Brazil. The accident threat and fiscalization are the main reasons for using the device, showing that the lack of information impairs the democratization of its use and the prevention culture has to be enhanced in the country.
