The sword lily Gladiolus palustris Gaudin is protected on European level and listed in Annexes II and IV of the EC Habitat Directive 92/43/*** grows in nutrient-poor,calcareous meadows in central and eastern *** encroachment in montane meadows of the European Alps as a result of recent land use changes and the abandonment of traditional farming practices threaten the survival of this ***-driven mowing is considered a feasible conservation measure for maintaining high species diversity in abandoned semi-natural *** assess the effects of tenyears of biennial mowing on a grassland community in the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park,Italy(Site of Community Importance,Natura 2000 network),ten25 m2 plots were established whereby four plots were placed in the mowed area,four in the non-mowed area and two in a small non-mowed patch of grassland inside the mowed *** each plot the following variables were recorded,total percentage of plant cover,percentage cover of woody species,percentage cover of herbaceous species,percentage cover and number of flowering ramets of *** and a complete list of species and their percentage *** plots showed a higher species richness than non-mowed *** number of *** flowering ramets and percentage cover increased manifold in mowed plots compared to nonmowed *** resumption of mowing forconservation purposes undertaken by the managing authority halted the process of tree encroachment and avoided a drastic change in plant *** mowing(every second or third year)was demonstrated to be a cost-effective conservation measure in non-productive grasslands to keep grasses at bay in favour of forbs of high conversation value.

Moment-based features have been intensively explored in visual servoing（VS） applications,especially when lack of representational rigid points like in the bottle production *** and many other constraints exist in VS with image moments have seldom been simultaneously considered in the *** paper takes bottle-shape like cylinders as a target and proposes a set of new moment-based features of cylinders for global convergence in VS *** on convergence to the desired location,we plan a straight path from the current camera frame to the desired one and formulate camera rotation into quadratic polynomials of quaternion representation with some variables.A nonlinear minimization method is proposed to reassign these variables for meeting field of view（FOV） limits of these *** order to follow well this planned straight line,we propose an image-based tracking *** paper belongs to a series of work aiming at robust VS based on image moments of some *** with two parallel cylinders and two crossed cylinders show the advantage of the proposed features and validate our proposed algorithm for both planning and tracking.

The largest dengue outbreak in Argentina and spatial analyses of dengue cases in relation to a control program in a district with sylvan and urban environments

Objective: To analyze the largest outbreak of dengue in Argentina in the municipality of Tigre during 2016, through detailed spatial analyses of the occurrence of cases in relation to demographic factors and vector control actions. Methods: Detailed and georreferenced data on dengue cases with laboratory results(NS1 or IgM) were analyzed. The occurrences of imported and autochthonous cases by census tract were modeled using demographic variables(population by age class, proportion of foreigners, proportion with university grade, proportion of males), dwelling variables(number of homes, proportion of dwellings with latrine, number of dwellings, proportion of houses, proportion of flats, proportion of slums) and census tract area as explanatory variables. The probability of occurrence of autochthonous and imported cases was modeled separately. The spatio-temporal occurrence of cases was studied in relation to focal and perifocal control actions(involving education campaigns, removal of Aedes aegypti breeding sites and exhaustive insecticide spraying) to assess the efficiency in stopping autochthonous cases spreading. Results: All autochthonous cases occurred in the urban environment with no sylvan cases. The majority of the imported cases registered came from Paraguay and Northeastern Argentina. The age structure of imported and autochthonous cases did not differ from the age structure of the municipality, while that of the negative cases *** studied spatially, the occurrence of imported cases by census tract was mildly associated with a higher proportion of foreign population and more people at active age, while occurrence of autochthonous cases was not significantly associated with any of the studied *** census tracts with laboratory confirmed results, the models showed higher probability of autochthonous cases related to higher population density and population age structure. In general the problem of verifying whether a structured business process is compliant with a given set of regulations is NP-hard. The present paper focuses on identifying a tractable subset of this problem, namely verifying whether a structured business process is compliant with a single global obligation. Global obligations are those whose validity spans for the entire execution of a business process. We identify two types of obligations： achievement and maintenance.In the present paper we firstly define an abstract framework capable to model the problem and secondly we define procedures and algorithms to deal with the compliance problem of checking the compliance of a structured business process with respect to a single global obligation. We show that the algorithms proposed in the paper run in polynomial time.

Radical gastrectomy with an adequate lymphadenectomy is the main procedure which makes it possible to cure patients with resectable gastric cancer (GC). A number of randomized controlled trials and meta-analysis provide phase III evidence that laparoscopic gastrectomy is technically safe and that it yields better short-term outcomes than conventional open gastrectomy for early-stage GC. While laparoscopic gastrectomy has become standard therapy for early-stage GC, especially in Asian countries such as Japan and South Korea, the use of minimally invasive techniques is still controversial for the treatment of more advanced tumours, principally due to existing concerns about its oncological adequacy and capacity to carry out an adequately extended lymphadenectomy. Some intrinsic drawbacks of the conventional laparoscopic technique have prevented the worldwide spread of laparoscopic gastrectomy for cancer and, despite technological advances in recent year, it remains a technically challenging procedure. The introduction of robotic surgery over the last ten years has implied a notable mutation of certain minimally invasive procedures, making it possible to overcome some limitations of the traditional laparoscopic technique. Robot-assisted gastric resection with D2 lymph node dissection has been shown to be safe and feasible in prospective and retrospective studies. However, to date there are no high quality comparative studies investigating the advantages of a robotic approach to GC over traditional laparoscopic and open gastrectomy. On the basis of the literature review here presented, robot-assisted surgery seems to fulfill oncologic criteria for D2 dissection and has a comparable oncologic outcome to traditional laparoscopic and open procedure. Some multimodal signals-that is,occurring in more than one sensory modality-appear to carry additional information which is not present when component signals are presented *** understand the function of male ring dove’s(Streptopelia risoria)multimodal courtship,we used audiovisual playback of male displays to investigate female response to stimuli differing in their audiovisual *** natural courtship recordings,we created a shifted stimulus where audio was shifted relative to video by aﬁxed value and a jittered stimulus,where each call was moved randomly along the visual *** presented 3 groups of females with the same stimulus type,that is,control,shifted,and jittered,for 7 *** recorded their behavior and assessed pre-and post-test blood estradiol *** found that playback exposure increased estradiol levels,conﬁrming that this technique can be efﬁciently used to study doves’sexual ***,chasing behavior(indicating sexual stimulation)increased over experimental days only in the control condition,suggesting a role of multimodal timing on female *** stresses the importance of signal conﬁguration in multimodal communication,as additional information is likely to be contained in the temporal association between modalities.

Assessing spatial variability and erosion susceptibility of soils in hilly agricultural areas in Southern Italy

Soil erosion is one of the main environmental problems in the Mediterranean *** problem is becoming even more important especially in Italy,in the Apennines,where severe erosive processes occur due to the action of concentrated running *** erodibility(K-Factor)of a soil,estimated using the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation(RUSLE),is a measure of its susceptibility to erosion and depends on several soil properties such as organic matter,texture and permeability and *** assess the spatial variability of soil properties and soil erodibility in hilly agricultural areas and to investigate the relationships between soil features and landscape morphodynamics,a detailed study in Molise region(southern Italy),in a small drainange basin located along its hilly Adriatic flank,was carried *** this catchment,63 topsoil samples(A horizons)were collected and 10 soil profiles,forming a catena crossing 3 land units,were *** calculated K-Factors ranges between 0.012 and 0.048 t ha h ha-1 MJ-1 mm-1 indicating a complex spatial distribution,due to the several local pedological and geomorphological factors affecting soil *** results give clear evidence about the relationships among soil characteristics,soil erodibility and landscape morpho-dynamics(land units).Comparing the soil loss rates estimated for the study area with those reported in literature,a good correspondence can be observed only for the more stable land unit,not characterized by intense erosive *** proposed methodology is suitable to highlight areas characterized by similar morphodynamics features,and comparable soil erodibility,for a more effective spatialization of K factor.

Physiologically based microenvironment for in vitro neural differentiation of adipose-derived stem cells

The limited capacity of nervous system to promote a spontaneous regeneration and the high rate of neurodegenerative diseases appearance are keys factors that stimulate researches both for defining the molecular mechanisms of pathophysiology and for evaluating putative strategies to induce neural tissue regeneration. In this latter aspect, the application of stem cells seems to be a promising approach, even if the control of their differentiation and the maintaining of a safe state of proliferation should be troubled. Here, we focus on adipose tissue-derived stem cells and we seek out the recent advances on the promotion of their neural differentiation, performing a critical integration of the basic biology and physiology of adipose tissuederived stem cells with the functional modifications that the biophysical, biomechanical and biochemical microenvironment induces to cell phenotype. The pre-clinical studies showed that the neural differentiation by cell stimulation with growth factors benefits from the integration with biomaterials and biophysical interaction like microgravity. All these elements have been reported as furnisher of microenvironments with desirable biological, physical and mechanical properties. A critical review of current knowledge is here proposed, underscoring that a real advance toward a stable, safe and controllable adipose stem cells clinical application will derive from a synergic multidisciplinary approach that involves material engineer, basic cell biology, cell and tissue physiology.

Open-cell mullite ceramic foams derived from porous geopolymer precursors with tailored porosity

Porous geopolymer precursors were firstly prepared by the direct foaming method using bauxite,fly ash(FA),and metakaolin(MK)as raw materials,and porous mullite ceramics were prepared after ammonium ion exchange and then high-temperature *** effects of chemical foaming agent concentration,ion-exchange time,and sintering temperature on porous geopolymerderived mullite ceramics were studied,and the optimal preparation parameters were *** have shown that the concentration of blowing agent had great influence on open porosity(q)and porosity and cell size distributions of geopolymer samples,which in turn affected their compressive strength(σ).Duration of the ion exchange had no obvious effect on the sintered samples,and the amount of mullite phase increased with the increase in the sintering *** foams,possessing an open-celled porous structure,closely resembling that of the starting porous geopolymers produced by directly foaming,were obtained by firing at high *** mullite(3Al_(2)O_(3)·2SiO_(2))ceramic foams with total porosity(ε)of 83.52 vol%,high open porosity of 83.23 vol%,and compressive strength of 1.72 MPa were produced after sintering at 1400 for 2 h in℃ air without adding any sintering additives using commercial MK,bauxite,and FA as raw materials.
