Homogenized Porcine Extracellular Matrix derived Injectable Tissue Construct with Gold Nanoparticles for Musculoskeletal Tissue Engineering Applications

A unique porcine extracellular matrix (ECM) derived injectable tissue construct with 100 nm or 20 nm gold nanoparticles (AuNP) was developed for musculoskeletal tissue engineering applications. ECM has been shown to encourage cellularity and tissue remodeling due to its release of growth factors while AuNP have been shown to reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Injectable tissue constructs were created by homogenizing decellularized porcine diaphragm tendon conjugated with 100 nm or 20 nm AuNP at 1x, 4x, and 8x concentrations. Extrusion force testing demonstrated that homogenized tissue constructs were injectable at an appropriate cannula size and force. L-929 murine fibroblasts were used to measure cell viability, cell proliferation, intracellular ROS levels, and cell migration in response to constructs. Enhanced cell viability and proliferation are observed on 1 × 20 nm AuNP constructs. ROS assays demonstrate reduced cellular ROS concentrations from all 20 nm AuNP constructs and from 8 × 100 nm AuNP constructs compared with constructs without nanoparticles. Cellular migration is higher towards 4 × 20 nm AuNP constructs compared with constructs without nanoparticles. Results support the potential use of a porcine ECM derived injectable tissue construct with AuNP as an injectable tissue construct to reduce inflammation and to promote tissue remodeling in musculoskeletal tissue engineering applications.

We fit various color–magnitude diagrams(CMds) of the high-latitude Galactic globular clusters NGC 5024(M53),NGC 5053,NGC 5272(M3),NGC 5466,and NGC 7099(M30) by isochrones from the dartmouth Stellar Evolution database and Bag of Stellar Tracks and Isochrones for α–enrichment [α/Fe] = +*** the CMds,we use data sets from Hubble Space Telescope,Gaia,and other sources utilizing,at least,25 photometric filters for each *** obtain the following characteristics with their statistical uncertainties for NGC 5024,NGC 5053,NGC 5272,NGC 5466,and NGC 7099,respectively:metallicities [Fe/H] =-1.93 ± 0.02,-2.08 ± 0.03,-1.60 ± 0.02,-1.95 ± 0.02,and-2.07 ± 0.04 dex with their systematic uncertainty 0.1 dex;ages 13.00 ± 0.11,12.70 ± 0.11,11.63 ± 0.07,12.15 ± 0.11,and 12.80 ± 0.17 Gyr with their systematic uncertainty 0.8 Gyr;distances(systematic uncertainty added) 18.22 ± 0.06 ± 0.60,16.99 ± 0.06 ± 0.56,10.08 ± 0.04 ± 0.33,15.59 ±0.03 ± 0.51,and 8.29 ± 0.03 ± 0.27 kpc;reddenings E(B-V) = 0.023 ± 0.004,0.017 ± 0.004,0.023 ± 0.004,0.023 ± 0.003,and 0.045 ± 0.002 mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.01 mag;extinctions AV= 0.08 ± 0.01,0.06 ± 0.01,0.08 ± 0.01,0.08 ± 0.01,and 0.16 ± 0.01 mag with their systematic uncertainty 0.03 mag,which suggest the total Galactic extinction AV= 0.08 across the whole Galactic dust to extragalactic objects at the North Galactic *** horizontal branch morphology difference of these clusters is explained by their different metallicity,age,mass-loss efficiency,and loss of low-mass members in the evolution of the core-collapse cluster NGC 7099 and loose clusters NGC 5053 and NGC 5466.

We recently demonstrated a repurposing beneficial effect of 4-aminopyridine(4-AP),a potassium channel blocker,on functional recove ry and muscle atrophy after sciatic nerve crush injury in ***,this effect of 4-AP is unknown in nerve transection,gap,and grafting *** evaluate and compare the functional recovery,nerve morphology,and muscle atrophy,we used a novel stepwise nerve transection with gluing(STG),as well as 7-mm irreparable nerve gap(G-7/0)and 7-mm isografting in 5-mm gap(G-5/7)models in the absence and presence of 4-AP *** surgery,sciatic functional index was determined wee kly to evaluate the direct in vivo global motor functional *** 12 weeks,nerves were processed for whole-mount immunofluorescence imaging,and tibialis anterior muscles were harvested for wet weight and quantitative histomorphological analyses for muscle fiber crosssectional area and minimal Feret's *** post-injury sciatic functional index values in STG and G-5/7 models were significantly greater than those in the G-7/0 model.4-AP did not affect the sciatic functional index recovery in any *** to STG,nerve imaging revealed more misdirected axons and distorted nerve architecture with *** muscle weight,cross-sectional area,and minimal Feret's diameter were significantly smaller in G-7/0 model compared with STG and G-5/7,4-AP treatment significantly increased right TA muscle mass,cross-sectional area,and minimal Feret's diameter in G-7/0 *** findings demonstrate that functional recovery and muscle atrophy after peripheral nerve injury are directly related to the intervening nerve gap,and 4-AP exerts diffe rential effects on functional recove ry and muscle atrophy.

Intramural duodenal hematoma is a rare cause of a proximal gastrointestinal tract *** of intramural duodenal hematoma most often occurs following blunt abdominal trauma in children,but spontaneous non-traumatic cases have been linked to anticoagulant therapy,pancreatitis,malignancy,vasculitis and *** report an unusual case of spontaneous intramural duodenal hematoma presenting as an intestinal obstruction associated with acute pancreatitis in a patient with established von Willebrand disease,type *** patient presented with abrupt onset of abdominal pain,nausea,and *** tomography imaging identified an intramural duodenal mass consistent with blood measuring 4.7 cm×8.7 cm in the second portion of the duodenum abutting on the head of the *** lipase was 3828 units/*** was managed conservatively with bowel rest,continuous nasogastric decompression,total parenteral nutrition,recombinant factorⅧ(humateP)and *** resolved over the course of the *** case highlights an important complication of an inherited coagulopathy.

The angular distributions of 7Li+144Sm elastic scattering over the energy range of 21.6–52 MeV are reanalyzed utilizing various interaction *** analysis aims to study the consistency of the implemented potentials in representing the considered data and investigate the cluster nature of the weakly bound 7Li *** will aid in the better understanding the impacts of 7Li breakup on the elastic scattering *** coupling to the breakup channel has a substantial impact on the elastic data and reproduces a repulsive dynamical polarization potential,which drastically diminishes the real potential *** reported impact was simulated by introducing a semi-microscopic repulsive dPP and by implementing the method of continuum discretized coupled *** analysis was also extended to understand the impact of triton transfer on the elastic scattering data.

The Soft X-ray Imager(SXI)is part of the scientific payload of the Solar wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link Explorer(SMILE)*** is a joint science mission between the European Space Agency(ESA)and the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS)and is due for launch in *** is a compact X-ray telescope with a wide field-of-view(FOV)capable of encompassing large portions of Earth’s magnetosphere from the vantage point of the SMILE *** is sensitive to the soft X-rays produced by the Solar Wind Charge eXchange(SWCX)process produced when heavy ions of solar wind origin interact with neutral particles in Earth’s *** provides a mechanism for boundary detection within the magnetosphere,such as the position of Earth’s magnetopause,because the solar wind heavy ions have a very low density in regions of closed magnetic field *** sensitivity of the SXI is such that it can potentially track movements of the magnetopause on timescales of a few minutes and the orbit of SMILE will enable such movements to be tracked for segments lasting many *** is led by the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom(UK)with collaborating organisations on hardware,software and science support within the UK,Europe,China and the United States.

Prey use reliable public information in order to assess local habitat condirions such as predation risks, competitive interactions, and foraging opportunities (dall et al. 2005), allowing for context appropriate behavioral decisions. However, public information can often differ widely in reliability (Feyten and Brown 2018), increasing the potential costs associated with behavioral decision making (dall et al. 2005). The reliability of public information is expected to decrease with in creased un certainty of environmental conditio ns (Koops 2004;dall et al. 2005), where ecological uncertainty is the ambiguity about the current state of the environment due to imperfect or incomplete information (dall et al. 2005;Munoz and Blumstein 2012;Feyten and Brown 2018).

A Standardized Method for determining Tillering Capacity of Wheat Cultivars

Genotype and agronomic management greatly influence crop growth and grain yield in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To ensure sustainable production, seeding rate selection is important to maximize efficiency of every plant. Tillering can allow wheat plants to adjust growth relative to plant density and quality of growing conditions. This research sought to determine a method for assessing tillering of wheat cultivars and develop a standardized approach for characterizing cultivar tillering capacity. Nine cultivars with diverse genetic and phenotypic characteristics were seeded in 2017-2018 at Prosper, Nd using various seeding techniques at differing plant spacing arrangements to evaluate tillering habit and spikes plant-1. Cultivars grown at population densities common in grower fields did not express full tillering potential. Spaced-plantings of cultivars promoted cultivar expression of tillering phenotype. The SOFATT (seed only a few, and then thin) method, where average spikes plant-1 was determined from multiple plants sampled from a cultivar grown at spaced-plantings (inter-row and intra-row spacing at 30 ± 12 cm), is recommended to properly assess tillering habits of wheat cultivars. Breeders and researchers can use results from SOFATT evaluations to determine tillering capacity rating for each cultivar based on raw or transformed z-score values for spikes plant-1.
