Emergency department rectal temperatures in over 10 years:A retrospective observational study

BACKGROUND:Fever in patients can provide an important clue to the etiology of a patient's ***-invasive temperature sites(oral,axillary,temporal) may be insensitive due to a variety of *** has not been well studied in adult emergency department *** determine whether emergency department triage temperatures detected fever adequately when compared to a rectal ***:A retrospective chart review was made of 27 130 adult patients in a high volume,urban emergency department over an eight-year period who received first a non-rectal triage temperature and then a subsequent rectal ***:The mean difference in temperatures between the initial temperature and the rectal temperature was 1.3 °F(P2°F,and 5.0%having higher rectal temperatures >4 °*** mean difference among the patients who received oral,axillary,and temporal temperatures was 1.2 °F(PO.001),1.8 °F(PO.001),and 1.2 °F(P<0.001) *** 18.1%of the patients were initially afebrile and found to be febrile by rectal temperature,with an average difference of 2.5 °F(P<0.001).These patients had a higher rate of admission(61.4%,P<0.005),and were more likely to be admitted to the hospital for a higher level of care,such as an intensive care unit,when compared with the full cohort(12.5%vs.5.8%,P<0.005).CONCLUSIONS:There are significant differences between rectal temperatures and noninvasive triage temperatures in this emergency department *** almost one in five patients,fever was missed by triage temperature.

In the U.S.,Helicoverpa zea(Boddie)is a major pest targeted by both transgenic maize and cotton expressing Bacillus thuringiensis(Bt)*** of insect to Bt maize and cotton containing cry1A and cry2A genes has widely occurred in the *** this study,two trials were performed to investigate larval survival and development of a Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 dual-protein resistant(VT2P-RR),a susceptible,and an F1 heterozygous(VT2P-RS)populations of *** on ears of nine Bt and three non-Bt maize *** Bt maize hybrids evaluated represent five common pyramided traits expressing two or three of the Cry1A.105,Cry1Ab,Cry1F,Cry2Ab2,and Vip3Aa20 *** the laboratory,neonates of the three *** populations were inoculated on silks of ears collected from maize at R1-R2 plant stages;and larval survivorship was checked 10 d after neonate *** three insect populations survived normally on non-Bt maize *** numbers of VT2P-RR and VT2P-RS survived on ears of Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 maize,while all larvae of the three populations died or could not develop on ears of Vip3Aa20-expressing *** results demonstrated that the dual-protein resistant *** was not cross-resistant to Vip3Aa20-expressing maize,and thus traits with vip3Aa20 gene should be effective to manage Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2-resistant *** resistance in VT2P-RR was determined to be incomplete on Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 *** effective dominance levels varied greatly,from recessive to incompletely dominant,depending on maize hybrids and trials,suggesting that proper selection of maize hybrids could be important for mitigating the Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 *** data generated should aid in modeling multiple-protein Bt resistance in ***.

A seed blend refuge has been implemented in the *** Belt for Bt maize resistance *** fall armyworm,Spodoptera frugiperda(***),is a target pest of Bt maize in the *** larvae of this pest are mobile,which may affect the efficacy of seed blend *** this study,field and greenhouse trials were conducted to determine the performance of Bt-susceptible(aabb)and-heterozygous dual-gene-resistant(AaBb)genotypes of *** in seed blends of non-Bt and pyramided Bt *** field trials evaluated larval survival,larval growth,and plant injury with aabb in seed blends of Bt maize expressing Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2/Vip3A with 0–30%non-Bt *** tests investigated the performance of aabb and AaBb in seed blends of Cry1A.105/Cry2Ab2 with 0–30% non-Bt *** pure non-Bt maize plots,after 9–13 d of neonates being released on the plants,0.39 and 0.65 larvae/plant survived with leaf injury ratings of 4.7 and 5.9(Davis's 1–9 scale)in the field and greenhouse,*** contrast,live larvae and plant injury were virtually not observed on Bt plants across all planting *** occurrence and plant injury by aabb on non-Bt plants were similar between seed blends and pure non-Bt plantings,suggesting that the blended refuges could provide an equivalent susceptible population as structured refuge under the test *** the greenhouse,the two insect genotypes in seed blends performed similarly,indicating that the seed blends did not provide more favorable conditions for AaBb over *** information generated from this study should be useful in managing *** and evaluating if send blends could be suitable refuge options for Bt resistance management in the regions where the insect is a primary target pest.

The state of mountain research in Canada

Nearly a quarter of Canada’s landmass is covered by mountainous terrain,making mountains an important aspect of the physical and human geography of the *** areas in Canada have motivated a great deal of research activity,yet the state of mountain research in the country has never been systematically characterized,precluding a detailed understanding of what is being studied,when,where,how,and by *** response,we conducted a systematic scoping review to rigorously identify,collate,and critically examine existing peer-reviewed articles related to mountains in Canada.2,888 articles were included in our review,which reveals strong biases towards work in the natural sciences and in the mountain west,with little work to date in the social and health sciences or in other mountainous regions of the *** results demonstrate that Canada is among the most productive contributors to mountain research globally,but that topical and geographical biases in existing research effort leave important gaps that must be addressed to successfully navigate challenges and opportunities facing mountain areas in *** provide a roadmap to guide future mountain-focused research activities in the country.

Effect of Look-Ahead Depth in Evolutionary Checkers

It is intuitive that allowing a deeper search into a game tree will result in a superior player to one that is restricted in the depth of the search that it is allowed to make. Of course, searching deeper into the tree comes at increased computational cost and this is one of the trade-offs that has to be considered in developing a tree-based search algorithm. There has been some discussion as to whether the evaluation function, or the depth of the search, is the main contributory factor in the performance of an evolved checkers player. Some previous research has investigated this question （on Chess and Othello）, with differing conclusions. This suggests that different games have different emphases, with respect to these two factors. This paper provides the evidence for evolutionary checkers, and shows that the look-ahead depth （like Chess, perhaps unsurprisingly） is important. This is the first time that such an intensive study has been carried out for evolutionary checkers and given the evidence provided for Chess and Othello this is an important study that provides the evidence for another game. We arrived at our conclusion by evolving various checkers players at different ply depths and by playing them against one another, again at different ply depths. This was combined with the two-move ballot （enabling more games against the evolved players to take place） which provides strong evidence that depth of the look-ahead is important for evolved checkers players.

Infrared Thermography for True Temperature Measurement of the Main Board in Personal Computer

This paper presents a way to measure the true temperature of the electronic devices without disturbing their normal operating conditions, which involved with estimating target emissivity, background temperature correctly and choosing infrared transparent material and its transmission estimation. The temperature distributions of the main board in personal computer were measured by the method presented here with infrared thermography in several different running conditions. The measurement errors and their possible remedies are also discussed.

In this paper we give a survey about the Roper-Suffridge extension operator and the developments in the theory of univalent mappings in several variables to which it has led. We begin with the basic geometric properties (most of which now have a number of different proofs)and discuss relations with the theory of Loewner chains and generalizations and modifications of the operator, some of which are very recent.
