Photocatalytic degradation of paraquat (PQ) aqueous solutions was studied in a fixed bed photoreactor under UV irradiation at 368 nm. This contained β-SiC alveolar foams coated with TiO2 P25 by dip-coating method. SEM analyses revealed that the surface of the film did not exhibit cracks in the presence of TTIP as a binder in the TiO2 P25 suspension. The following parameters were studied in continuous mode operation: the flow rate in the reactor, the initial concentration of the paraquat, the pH of the solution, the weight of photocatalytic material with the number of foams in the reactor and the weight of the catalyst deposited onto the support. The results showed that by working under optimal operating conditions at natural pH (pH = 6.7), low paraquat (Co = 10 ppm), and flow (26 mL/min), we recorded approximately (43.16 ± 1.00)% oxidation of paraquat and a decrease in total organic carbon (TOC) of (27.13 ± 1.00)% after about 70 minutes. The apparent rate constant is in the order of (0.0656 ± 0.0010) min-1. In addition, by increasing the amount of β-SiC foams coated with TiO2, we improve the degradation of paraquat in the same order. The study of aging of the material showed its stability over time. However, photocatalytic activity was limited after 20 minutes of UV irradiation due to the limitation of the diffusion of the paraquat molecules towards the surface of the photocatalyst. As an outcome, we obtained an efficient TiO2/β-SiC material for photocatalytic degradation of organic compounds in water.

The objective of this study is to develop carbon, that of Acacia auriculeaformis through its activation in order to eliminate lead in an aqueous medium. A series of activated carbon has been prepared by chemical activation with phosphoric acid, sodium hydroxide and sodium chloride. The determination of the physico-chemical properties of the prepared carbon guided the choice of phosphoric acid activated carbon as the best adsorbent for the elimination of lead(II) in an aqueous solution. Pb2+ adsorption tests in batch mode have shown that the adsorption capacity is influenced by various parameters such as mass, pH, concentration of Pb2+ ions and contact time linked to the medium and the adsorbent. Adsorption isotherms, kinetic models and thermodynamics have been used to describe the adsorption process. The equilibrium data for activated charcoal correspond well to the model of Freundlich, Langmuir, Temkin and Kiselev. The kinetic adsorption data proved to be better described by the pseudo-second order model with external and intraparticle diffusion which are two decisive steps in the adsorption process of Pb2+ ions. Moringa oleifera is an edible plant cultivated throughout the tropical belt. It belongs to the family Moringaceae and is one of its 14 known species. This paper presents a synthesis of the main factors responsible for the retention of trace metal elements (TMEs) by Moringa oleifera seed powder, a natural adsorbent. The five main factors studied are metal concentration, solution pH, adsorbent particle size, adsorbent dose and adsorbent/adsorbate contact time. Through these factors, we present the optimal conditions for removal of these TMEs, as well as adsorption isotherm models appropriate for the conditions of retention of these metal cations by the adsorbent. The times of 20 min (GD) and 50 min (GND) are the equilibrium times obtained in our study. An optimal adsorbent mass (GD and GND powders) of 4.5 g was found. 20% to 97% abatement is observed for average pH values between 6 and 8. The coefficients of determination (R2) obtained (0.972, 0.963, 0.991 and 0.799) during the isotherm experiments carried out at 20°C, 30°C, 40°C and 50°C are close to 1. Al

In C ?te d’Ivoire, traditional ceramics are widely used in the form of pottery. The latter is used to store food, water and cereals. Analyzes (X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), inductive plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and analysis thermal gravimetric (ATG)) were carried out to determine the morphology, the chemical, physical and pedological constituents of these raw materials. It appears from this study that the clays used in the Mangoro pottery of Katiola contain silica SiO2, alumina Al2O3 and iron oxide Fe2O3 as well as kaolinite, muscovite, smectite and quartz.

Preparation and Characterisation of Corncob-Based Biosorbents in Côte d’Ivoire

This study focuses on the preparation of corncob-based biosorbents. The chemical impregnation method was used to vary the chemical agent namely phosphoric acid H3PO4 (BA) and sodium hydroxide NaOH (BB). The physicochemical analysis of the two biosorbents indicated that under the same preparation conditions, the bio-sorbents have after activation yields lower than 50% (24.37% for BB and 49.09% for BA). In addition, the biosorbents have iodine index values between 444.17 mg/g and 418.79 mg/g and specific surfaces related to the adsorption of methylene blue ranging from 18.54 m2/g to 19.70 m2/g. The study of surface functional groups by using the Boehm test and pH zero point charge (pHPZC) confirmed the acidic nature of BA and BB biosorbents with respective values pHPZC = 4.01 and pHPZC = 4.90. The Langmuir method and BET analysis determined the specific surface areas by liquid phase adsorption of methylene blue as well as the porosity. The BET surface areas of BA and BB obtained are 72.01 m2/g and 63.10 m2/g respectively. The influence of the chemical activating agent on the formation of pores was confirmed by electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. From this study, it is found that the best activating agent for corn cobs was found to be phosphoric acid because the BA biosorbent was revealed to be the most favourable due to its surface area and good pore volume which are high compared to sodium hydroxide NaOH. Moreover, their application as adsorbent for effluent treatment could be explored.

In this work, an inexpensive and environmentally friendly natural adsorbent obtained from shelled (GD) and unshelled (GND) Moringa oleifera seeds was used for copper adsorption from aqueous solutions. A series of experiments were performed to assess the parameters influencing the adsorption phenomenon such as pH, adsorbent mass, adsorption equilibrium time and temperature. The kinetic results of adsorption described a pseudo-second order model. The adsorption isotherms are satisfactorily described by the Langmuir mathematical model. The thermodynamic data revealed a spontaneous and endothermic adsorption phenomenon. The level of copper in surface water before and after addition of moringa powders was carried out to verify the effectiveness of the adsorbent. A maximum adsorption rate of 51.28% and 61.96% was obtained with GD and GND powders respectively. Moringa oleifera seed powders are an effective alternative for the removal of copper from surface water.

The present work aims to study the influence of some physicochemical parameters (light, temperature, ethanol, bile salts, potassium hydroxide, hydrogen peroxide) on the content of Metronidazole (MTZ) contained in the reference substance (SR) and in a pharmaceutical specialty Flagyl® 250 mg tablet (FLG). The method developed was linear and accurate in accordance with USP 38 and the MTZ contents were obtained by UV-visible spectrophotometry at 278 nm. These contents ranged from 225 mg to 275 mg and were thus consistent with the concentration present in the proprietary medicines (250 mg). The study of the influence of physicochemical parameters on the MTZ content in SR and FLG showed that MTZ contents are unstable in the presence of Ethanol at 96˚, KOH at 0.1N and bile salts but also when the temperature is higher than 25˚C. However, they remain stable in the presence of light and H2O2 and undergo degradation in an acidic environment.

Objective: To analyze our experience in the management of ovarian hernia in children. Methods: It was a retrospective study about 11 cases treated in pediatric surgery unit of the Teaching Hospital of Bouaké, in 2 years period. Results: Ovarian hernia represented 7.69% of the hernias and 73.33% of the hernia cases in girls. The mean age was 4 years and the median 36 months. The main reason for consultation was inguinal swelling (45.45%) following by swelling of the labia majora (36.36%), and a round mass of labia majora palpated by parents while bathing the child (18.18%). Nine (9) patients had been operated on;we realize the closure of peritoneo-vaginal canal, associated in 66.66% cases with a routine surgical exploration of the contralateral side. Average age of these children with contralateral hernia was 20 months. The mean follow up was 6 months (15 days - 15 months). We noticed an appearance of contralateral ovarian hernia in a girl operated on at 3 years old without routine surgical exploration. Conclusion: We recommend early management with a systematic surgical exploration of the contralateral side in young female child. A preoperative ultrasonography could be a routine in case of strangulated hernia, if available.
