Emergency assessment of seismic landslide susceptibility: a case study of the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake affected area

The 8.0 Mw Wenchuan earthquake triggered widespread and large scale landslides in mountainous regions. An approach was used to map and assess landslide susceptibility in a given area. A numerical rating system was applied to five factors that contribute to slope instability. Factors such as lithology, topography, streams and faults have an important influence as event-controlling factors for landslide susceptibility assessment. A final map is provided to show areas of low, medium, and high landslide susceptibility. Areas identified as having high landslide susceptibility were located in the central, northeastern, and far south regions of the study area. The assessment results will help decision makers to select safe sites for emergency placement of refuges and plan for future reconstruction. The maps may also be used as a basis for landslide risk management in the study area.

＜正＞This paper addresses the discrete-time adaptive control design which incorporates internal model principle for asymptotic tracking performance. The indirect adaptive system applies projection or least squares parameter adaptation algorithm with dead zone, and frozen time stabilizing control. The global stability of the system is ensured under certain assumptions. The adaptive algorithm is applied to an electrohydraulic servo with periodic disturbances and reference trajectory. Experiment results shows that the adaptive systems can tolerate parameter mismatch and unmodeled dynamics while maintaining stability and asymptotic tracking performance.

Two novel Fe(Ⅱ) diimine complexes have been synthesized. In combination with MAO, they generate active catalytic systems that oligomerize ethylene with both high catalytic activity and high selectivity for a-olefins. The effects of substituents on the aryl ring, reaction temperatures and molar ratios of Al/Fe on catalytic activity and product distribution are studied.

Based on the 2nd order cnoidal wave theory, the characters of shallow water standing waves and their action on vertical walls are studied in this paper. The theoretical expressions of the wave surface elevation in front of and the wave pressure on the vertical wall are obtained. In order to verify the theoretical results, model tests were made in the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering at DUT. For the wave surface elevation in front of the wall and the wave forces on the wall at the moment when the wave surface at the wall surface goes down to the bottom of the wave trough, the calculated results coincide quite well with the experimental results. For the wave forces on the wall at the moment when the wave surface at the wall surface goes up to the top of the wave crest, the theoretical expressions are modified by the experimental results. For the convenience of practical use, calculations are made for the wave conditions which usually occur in enginering practice by use of the investigated results obtained in this paper. Empirical formulas are fitted with these calculated results for designers to use.

The hollow-pipe perforated breakwater is of low reflection. In this paper the functions of reflection coefficients of both regular and random waves are theoretically derived, based on the concept of linear superimposition of reflected and incident waves and with the total flow rate continuity of integral form instead of the non-continuity of the boundary condition, and based on the concept of linear wave spectrum theory. Comparisons between theoretical results presented here and measurements of model tests show reasonable agreement.

An engineering numerical model for three dimensional motion of multichain-buoy mooring system in shallow water and survival condition is given in this paper. Shooting-aim method is employed for solving the dynamic equations of chain system in order to match the computation of buoy motion. The responses of buoy and chain have been computed for different wind-wave-current directions and different rigidity of chain. The results show that the present numerical model is reasonable.

This paper presents a procedure to calculate the safety factor against sliding of a marine gravity structure subjected to a combination of static and cyclic loads. This procedure claculates the stress at the sliding surface by the finite element method (FEM) and takes the dynamic properties of clay into account. With this procedure, the stability of a Bohai oil-drilling ship is analyzed. The calculated safety factor is much smaller than 1, indicating that this oil-drilling ship would fail just as what had happened to it.
