In Mexico,there is a need to produce large quantities of plantlets for the establishment and replanting of blue(***)agave production *** of these plots are within the origin denomination area(DOT,spanish acronym)of the distilled product of this plant,known as *** objective of this study was to develop an in vitropropagation protocol for Agave tequilana Weber *** using segmented stems in both:solid and liquid media.A disinfection and in vitro technique were developed to obtain shoots,through plantlets collected in commercial plots,which attained 100%surface-disinfection and budding *** the multiplication stage,the effects of 6-Benzylaminopurine(BA)(0.0,4.4 and 13.2μM)and kinetin(0.0,9.4,18.8 and 37.6μM)were evaluated on lateralshoot production of segmented sagittal *** were cultivated on Murashige&skoog(Ms)medium,with the addition of 3.0%sucrose and 8 g L−1 *** was observed that BA and kinetin increased the number of shoots per explant,obtaining up to 18 and 26,***,it was found that just the sagittal segmentation of explants increased axillary *** the other hand,segmented-stem bases were grown in Ms liquid medium with 3.0%sucrose,inside a RITAsystem,programmed by a 5 min immersion step with a frequency of every 4 *** effect of Indole−3-Acetic acid(IAA)(0.57,2.9,5.7μM)was evaluated,while maintaining a concentration of BA(13.2μM).It was observed that the greatest concentration of IAA led to the formation of more than 20 buds per *** results offer a new methodology to increase the efficiency of *** Weber ***-in vitro multiplication by sagittal segmentation of stems and the addition of BA and/or IAA.

Understanding discipline-specific texts in English is a basic requirement for science students, who must develop their content knowledge and language skills. Particularly, interesting is the fact that the language of science is characterized by the use of figurative language, which appeals to the common knowledge of the world, mainly to explain, clarify, and describe intricate concepts. Metaphors are helpful for lexicalizing new concepts and meanings or extending the meanings of pre-existing words. The analysis of tropes as a means to improve foreign language learners＇ reading competence is a rather novel teaching practice in EsP （English for specific Purposes）, implemented at the University of Rio Cuarto, Argentina. Therefore, the aim of this paper is to explain the theoretical basis for teaching and developing metaphorical competence in EsP classes as a means of providing an intellectually stimulating alternative approach, and to present some teaching ideas and activities designed to familiarize students with the use of metaphorical language in scientific discourse in order to enhance their reading competence.

AIM： To characterize hyperlactatemia in patients with non-acetaminophen acute liver failure （ALF） in an attempt to clarify the mechanisms implicated and the role as a prognosis factor. METHODs： In the setting of liver transplantation, 63 consecutive patients with non-acetaminophen acute liver failure were studied in relation to tissue oxygenation, hemodynamic and metabolic parameters. Before and after transplantation, the number of infected patients and outcome were registered. REsULTs： Acute ALF showed higher levels of lactate than subacute ALF （5.4 ± 1 mmol/L versus 2.2 ± 0.6 mmol/L, P= 0.01）. Oxygenation parameters were within the normal range. Lactate levels showed good correlation with respiratory quotient （r=0.759, P〈 0.005）, mean glucose administration （r= 0.664, P= 0.01） and encephalopathy （r= 0.698, P= 0.02）, but not with splanchnic arteriovenous difference in PCO2, pH and the presence of infection （P=0.1）. Portal vein lactate was higher （P〈0.05） than arterial and mixed venous lactate, suggesting its production of hyperlactatemia in the intestine and spleen. The presence of infection was an independent predictor of survival. COnCLUsIOn： Hyperlactatemia is not a prognosis factor due to byproduct of the overall acceleration in glycolysis.

When performing numerical modeling of fluid flows where a clear medium is adjacent to a porous medium, a degree of difficulty related to the condition at the interface between the two media, where slip velocity exists, is encountered. A similar situation can be found when a jet flow interacts with a perforated plate. The numerical modeling of a perforated plate by meshing in detail each hole is most often impossible in a practical case (many holes with different shapes). Therefore, perforated plates are often modeled as porous zones with a simplified hypothesis based on pressure losses related to the normal flow through the plate. nevertheless, previous investigations of flow over permeable walls highlight the impossibility of deducing a universal analytical law governing the slip velocity coefficient since the latter depends on many parameters such as the Reynolds number, porosity, interface structure, design of perforations, and flow direction. This makes the modeling of such a configuration difficult. The present study proposes an original numerical interface law for a perforated plate. It is used to model the turbulent jet flow interacting with a perforated plate considered as a fictitious porous medium without a detailed description of the perforations. It considers the normal and tangential effects of the flow over the plate. Validation of the model is realized through comparison with experimental data.

Chemical extraction methods are generally used to evaluate trace element concentrations in soils. The adequacy of these soil tests is commonly assessed by comparing the extraction results with the metal contents in the plants. In this study, soil and leaf samples were collected in the southwest area of the Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Garlic (Allium sativum L.), onion (Allium cepa L.) and tomato (solanum lycopersicum L.) are species of great regional economic importance. These crops need good mineral nutrition for optimum growth and sustainable production. Cu, Zn, Mn and Fe micronutrient uptake by plants was analyzed together with the trace element contents in the soil in which those plants were grown. A single EDTA-extraction procedure was performed to determine soil micronutrients. The amount of extractable-trace elements increased as the concentration of the chelating agent EDTA increased. The range of total element content in soil was: 15.68-31.5 mg·kg-1 for Cu, 75.0-386.3 mg·kg-1 for Zn, 542.5 -1686 mg·kg-1 for Mn and 28,325-32,675 mg·kg-1 for Fe. Micronutrient contents in mature leaf tissue were determined by the acid digestion method. Total and available micronutrient content in soil as well as total content in leaves were measured by flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAs). Total micronutrient content and the available extractable-fraction in soils were below the critical values for plant growth. This was in agreement with the amount of micronutrients present in the leaf tissue. A strong relationship between the extraction data and the soil-plant transfer coefficients suggested an appropriate exchange of trace elements from soils to garlic, onion and tomato plants.

This paper investigated lateral diffusion of a confined two-dimensional wall jet (air inlet height: 5 cm) through a perforated plate. We considered two plates with porosities of and . The plates were positioned at distances of 10 cm and 20 cm below the jet inlet. The experiments were realized using 2D Laser Doppler Anemometer (LDA). Different profiles of mean and fluctuating velocities are presented. The presence of a perforated plate strongly modified the airflow pattern compared to an empty enclosure. The velocities above and below the plate depend on several parameters, including the porosity and the plate’s position relative to the inlet slot and the longitudinal position. The difference between the flow velocity above and below the plates could not be related using a universal formula that depends on these parameters. We also investigated the influence of a porous media of a height of 20 cm (a stack of spheres having a diameter of 3.75 cm) located below the perforated plate. The results highlight that the porous medium strengthens the effects of the perforated plate on the flow.

The photoreceptor layer of the human retina has several characteristics that are unique. Their energy requirements are the highest in the organism;in proportion, rods and cones require 10-fold the energy consumed by the cerebral cortex, 6-fold more than the cardiac muscle, and 3-fold more than the renal cortex. Astonishingly, the photoreceptor layer has no blood vessels at all. so, where is the energy to this tissue coming from? In this article we’ll describe the hitherto unknown explanation.

Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease(MAFLD)is a new nomenclature recently proposed by a panel of international experts so that the entity is defined based on positive criteria and linked to pathogenesis,replacing the traditional non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(nAFLD),a definition based on exclusion ***/MAFLD is currently the most common form of chronic liver disease worldwide and is a growing risk factor for development of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).It is estimated than 25%of the global population have nAFLD and is projected to increase in the next *** scientific societies agree that surveillance for HCC should be indicated in patients with nAFLD/MAFLD and cirrhosis but differ in non-cirrhotic patients(including those with advanced fibrosis).several studies have shown that the annual incidence rate of HCC in nAFLD-cirrhosis is greater than 1%,thus surveillance for HCC is *** factors that increase HCC incidence in these patients are male gender,older age,presence of diabetes and any degree of alcohol *** non-cirrhotic patients,the incidence of HCC is much lower and variable,being a great challenge to stratify the risk of HCC in this ***,large epidemiological studies based on the general population have shown that diabetes and obesity significantly increase risk of *** genetic variants may also play a role modifying the HCC occurrence among patients with *** purpose of this review is to discuss the epidemiology,clinical and genetic risk factors that may influence the risk of HCC in nAFLD/MAFLD patients and propose screening strategy to translate into better patient care.

AIM: To establish the diagnostic performance of sev-eral serological tests, individually and in combination, for diagnosing celiac disease (CD) in patients with different pretest probabilities, and to explore potential se- rological algorithms to reduce the necessity for biopsy. METHODs: We prospectively performed duodenal biopsy and serology in 679 adults who had either high risk (n = 161) or low risk (n = 518) for CD. Blood samples were tested using six assays (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) that detected antibodies to tissue transglutaminase (tTG) and deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP). REsULTs: CD prevalence was 39.1% in the high-risk population and 3.3% in the low-risk group. In high-risk patients, all individual assays had a high diagnostic efficacy [area under receiving operator characteristic curves (AU ROC): 0.968 to 0.999]. In contrast, assays had a lower diagnostic efficacy (AU ROC: 0.835 to 0.972) in the low-risk group. Using assay combinations, it would be possible to reach or rule out diagnosis of CD without biopsy in 92% of cases in both pretest populations. We observed that the new DGP/tTG screen assay resulted in a surplus compared to more conventional assays in any clinical situation. COnCLUsIOn: The DGP/tTG screen assay could be considered as the best initial test for CD. Combinations of two tests, including a DGP/tTG screen, might be able to diagnose CD accurately in different clinical scenarios making biopsy avoidable in a high proportion of subjects.
