Powdery mildew on various Acalypha *** previously been assigned to Erysiphe *** a recently published reassessment,it has been revealed that sequences retrieved from this Acalypha powdery mildew form a separate lineage representing a genus of its own for which the old genus name Salmonomyces was reinstated,with the new combination Salmonomyces *** javanicum,described from Indonesia on Acalypha javanica,was reduced to synonymy with Salmonomyces ***,the name Salmonomyces acalyphae was applied to all collections on Acalypha,first and foremost on the basis of the congruence of the morphological characteristics of the asexual morphs on Acalypha super a and other Acalypha ***,attempts to trace new collections of this powdery mildew on Acalypha supera in Kunming,Yunnan Province,were successful and allow epitypification of Erysiphe acalyphae with ex-epitype sequence *** analyses surprisingly revealed the hidden diversity that two sister species are involved within Salmonomyces,viz.,Salmonomyces acalyphae with both anamorph and teleomorph,confined to Acalypha supera in South China as host,and a second species,so far only known as anamorph,with wider host range and distribution,for which the new combination Salmonomyces javanicus,based on Pseudoidium javanicum,being introduced.

In the frame of a study aiming at identifying the potential of emotion as the affective component of perception, a questionnaire was developed for assessing the involvement of this dimension in the perception of urban environments. The questionnaire was tested in field studies carried out in two cities. It was hypothesized that the street lighting might be the main feature among the overall environmental stimulation of the urban environment, and this may have an impact on emotional perception. The general appraisal of the urban scene was also considered as background predictor.

Chimerism is defined as the presence in a subject of more than one stable and genetically distinct cell line;cases reported so far include both patients with ambiguous genitalia and healthy subjects. The biological mechanisms, which may give origin to chimeras, are complex, and can be understood by analyzing DNA samples of the patients and their parents using molecular techniques. The objective of this study is to identify the mechanism of origin for the 2 cases we report. The first patient is a phenotipically normal girl with normal (external and internal) genitalia;the second patient had ambiguous genitalia and underwent surgery. DNA was purified from blood samples and, limited to Patient 1, from a sample of biliary cyst. Short tandem repeat polymorphisms were analyzed in order to identify the relative parental contribution to the patients. molecular analyses carried out on the first patient are not fully informative because of two possible explanations (i.e. parthenogenetic and andrognetic chimera), while in the second case the presence of four alleles at some markers allowed us to identify a tetragametic chimera originnated from the fusion of two distinct embryos. Studies carried on one single tissue may not always be conclusive as they do not allow the precise identification of the mechanism of origin. In these cases, studies on more tissues are strongly suggested.

Diabetes mellitus (Dm) represents one of the most serious current health problems nowadays, considering the number of people affected, its complications and morbidities. A broad analysis was performed among diabetic patients attended in the Family Health Center from the district of Baú, in Cuiabá, mato Grosso State (Center-east Brazil), to examine the patterns of occurrence of overweight or obesity, values of glycated hemoglobin and the diagnostic of metabolic syndrome. The results show ahead a wide work that is necessary to prevent and early diagnose concerning Dm, since only an intensive control will make it possible to alter the reality of the unfavorable prognosis documented.

The photoreceptor layer of the human retina has several characteristics that are unique. Their energy requirements are the highest in the organism;in proportion, rods and cones require 10-fold the energy consumed by the cerebral cortex, 6-fold more than the cardiac muscle, and 3-fold more than the renal cortex. Astonishingly, the photoreceptor layer has no blood vessels at all. So, where is the energy to this tissue coming from? In this article we’ll describe the hitherto unknown explanation.

在从压榨间直到蔗汁澄清的蔗糖生产过程中,蔗汁中微生物活动是破坏蔗糖品质的一个重要因素。蔗糖损失和葡聚糖的形成通常与蔗汁中微生物引起的变质有关。多年来,这一直成为糖厂试图改善蔗糖品质时所面临的问题。本文以直接影响得糖率的微生物减少和相对纯度为指标,研究了不同杀菌方法在蔗汁中的效果。浓度为0.007%的S抑制剂显示了对某糖厂初压汁和混合汁中的微生物菌群的抗菌效应。在对照组中,12h后观察到4.8单位的纯度降低。加入S抑制剂后,只降低2个单位。且蔗汁的稳定性在3个样品中几乎完全一致。以S抑制剂处理的蔗汁保持深褐色和清新的气味,且pH与初始相比无显著变化,而未处理的蔗汁变浅褐色,产生很强的酒味,pH和纯度显著降低。这种稳定效应尚未被其他常用的糖用杀菌剂所报导。同样,本文证明了有可能通过使用S抑制剂来稳定混合汁。经S抑制剂处理后,游离的还原物质和多聚糖比不经处理的样品低6倍。这些结果表明,形成的葡聚糖以及随之形成的游离果糖减少。

Determination of Fungal Colonization in the Oral Cavity of College Students

In recent years, an increase in opportunistic fungal colonization in the oral cavity in immunocompetent patients (IC) has been observed. In the bibliography, the most observable genre is Candida and less frequently found are other opportunistic such as Aspergillus, Rhizopus, Cryptococcus, and others. The authors determined the presence of fungi in the oral cavity of IC students, and their relationship with the concentration of secretory IgA in saliva. To this end, we collected 50 samples of oral cavity swabs, which underwent direct examination and culture in Sabouraud dextrose agar with chloramphenicol. For its identification, CHROmagar Candida and API Candida (Biomerieux) were used. We obtained nine positive cultures (7 Candida albicans and 2 Saccharomyses cerevisiae), which represented 18% of the studied population. Throughout radial immunodiffusion (RID plates-PlATE), we determined the concentration of secretory IgA. No relationship was observed between the colonized group and group that was not colinized. The colonization rate found is below the one described in the bibliography (30% to 50%). However, these opportunistic fungi cause transitory colonization with no clinical relevance in IC patients and, its percentage can vary according to the studied population.
