Aeromonas is a Gram-negative bacterium that lives in aquatic habitats. It can be infective in humans. One of its remarkable attributes is the ability of biofilm formation. Many factors are involved in the construction of biofilms as has been described for Pseudomonas, Klebsiella, and Vibrio, among others. The aim of this work was to study the bacterial morphology during the establishment of biofilm through scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) with a modified microtiter plate assay and to determine the best conditions for the establishment of Aeromonas caviae Sch3 biolfilm in vitro. We observed several phenotypic changes, including surface appearance, size, presence of extracellular vesicles from 100 to 250 nm in diameter, and flagella. The best conditions for biofilm formation were to grow cultures at 28℃ at pH 6, as determined by the crystal violet assay. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first study that describes the cell’s biological events involved in the establishment of biofilm formation of Aeromonas caviae Sch3 in vitro.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of iron biofortification on antioxidant response, yield and nutritional qualityof green bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) under greenhouse conditions. Fe was applied using two forms (FeSO4 and Fe-EDDHA) at four doses of application (0, 25, 50 and 100 μm) added under a hydroponic system, and were tested over a period of 40 days. The Fe content was assessed in seeds, as well as the activity of antioxidant enzymes, production of H2O2, yield and nutritional quality. The results being obtained indicated that the accumulation of Fe in bean seeds enhanced with the application of Fe-EDDHA at the dose of 25 μm. This demonstrated that low Fe application dose was enough to increase Fe levels in seeds of common bean. In addition, Fe-EDDHA application form at 50 μmol was the best treatment to improve crop yield. Respect to antioxidant system, chelated form of Fe (Fe-EDDHA) was more effective in the activation of antioxidant enzymes (CAT, SOD and GSH-PX), and a lower content of H2O2 in green bean seeds. Finally, to raise the Fe concentration in bean under biofortification program was a promising strategy in cropping systems in order to increase the ingestion of iron and antioxidant capacity in the general population and provided the benefits that this element offered in human health.

Background: To ensure quality and relevance of Postgraduate Programs are a commitment of the National Quality Postgraduate Programs (PNPC), and those from UNAM. Then, the self-evaluation of the Masters in Nursing Program (PME) is necessary for it to be part of the PNPC. This study focuses on self-evaluation of implementation mechanisms to assure effective communication and collaboration with and among graduated alumni. Methods: The research was qualitative, exploratory and descriptive. An informed consent was signed by four informants, graduated from the seventeenth generation of PME. Data collection from a focal group and descriptive data analysis by *** from guidance questions that were contrasted with the scale value from PME curriculum. Results: Four categories emerged from PME graduated alumni: Category I, Professional academic performance, Category II, International activities attendance, Category III, Academic networks, and Category IV, Higher satisfaction of international activities. Conclusions: It is concluded that self-evaluation shows a graduate’s vision of conditions and networks where PME develops. Masters in Nursing Program fulfills graduates expectancy to create networks, which will contribute to knowledge and recognition of professional practice, as well as on the area’ opportunities opening for better contributions.

Aims: To assess the frequency and the main HPV genotypes circulating among a group of women attending at a third level Hospital in Mexico City. Methods: A cross-sectional and descriptive study was performed in a group of 143 female outpatients of the Gynecology and Obstetrics Service at the National Institute of Perinatology of Mexico. Cervical swabs were taken from participants and subjected to simultaneous detection/genotyping of HPV by Linear Array Genotyping Test (Roche Molecular Systems). Mann-Whitney U, median and/or Square Chi tests were used to compare socio-demographical features between HPV-infected and uninfected women. Results: A total of 66 women (46.2%) had HPV infection. Overall, 112 genotypes were detected either as single infections (45.5%) or multiple genotype infections (54.5%). The cumulated frequency of multiple infections with high-/low- and high-/high-risk HPV genotypes was 63.9 %. The most frequent high-risk genotypes were HPV52 HPV58 and HPV51, whereas the most frequent low-risk genotypes were HPV6, HPV53 and HPV84. Infected women were significantly younger and have less stable partner relationships than uninfected women (p < 0.05). Conclusion: A relevant frequency of mixed infections with high- and low-risk HPV genotypes, other than those considered most prevalent worldwide, was observed. Most circulating high-risk genotypes among the women of this study are not covered by commercial vaccine formulations.

AIM: To assess the impact of transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) on pulmonary gas exchange and to evaluate the use of TIPS for the treatment of hepatopulmonary syndrome (HPS).METHODS: Seven patients, three of them with advanced HPS, in whom detailed pulmonary function tests were performed before and after TIPS placementat the University of Alabama Hospital and at the Hospital Clinic, Barcelona, were ***: TIPS patency was confirmed by hemodynamic evaluation. No changes in arterial blood gases were observed in the overall subset of patients. Transient arterial oxygenation improvement was observed in only one HPS patient, early after TIPS, but this was not sustained 4 mo ***: TIPS neither improved nor worsened pulmonary gas exchange in patients with portal hypertension. This data does not support the use of TIPS as a specific treatment for HPS. However, it does reinforce the view that TIPS can be safely performed for the treatment of other complications of portal hypertension in patients with HPS.

Wound healing and cicatrization is a process that involves several phases. The main goal of a surgeon and specially the plastic surgeon is to achieve the best cosmetic results and avoid complications. Several tools are available to achieve the best result. One of the tools recently studied is the use of Botulinum toxin. The use of Botulinum toxin has showed to be a useful aid by improving macroscopic cosmetic changes, as histopathologic ones. The increase of the tensile strength is also one of the positive changes that come with the use of botulinum toxin.

Powdery mildew on various Acalypha *** previously been assigned to Erysiphe *** a recently published reassessment,it has been revealed that sequences retrieved from this Acalypha powdery mildew form a separate lineage representing a genus of its own for which the old genus name Salmonomyces was reinstated,with the new combination Salmonomyces *** javanicum,described from Indonesia on Acalypha javanica,was reduced to synonymy with Salmonomyces ***,the name Salmonomyces acalyphae was applied to all collections on Acalypha,first and foremost on the basis of the congruence of the morphological characteristics of the asexual morphs on Acalypha super a and other Acalypha ***,attempts to trace new collections of this powdery mildew on Acalypha supera in Kunming,Yunnan Province,were successful and allow epitypification of Erysiphe acalyphae with ex-epitype sequence *** analyses surprisingly revealed the hidden diversity that two sister species are involved within Salmonomyces,viz.,Salmonomyces acalyphae with both anamorph and teleomorph,confined to Acalypha supera in South China as host,and a second species,so far only known as anamorph,with wider host range and distribution,for which the new combination Salmonomyces javanicus,based on Pseudoidium javanicum,being introduced.

Brain metastasis are the most common intracranial malignancy in the adult population. Their incidence has increased dramatically over the last 20 years, as a result of the increasing number of cases stemming from lung and breast cancer together with the higher cancer survival rates due to diagnostic and therapeutic advances. More than 40%of cancer patients develop brain metastases during the course of their disease: specifically, they appear in 50%of patients with lung cancer, more than 25% of patients with breast cancer, and 20% of patients with melanoma. Diagnosis is made using different imaging approaches, such as computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging, accompanied by clinical manifestations and a history of malignancy supporting the diagnosis of a brain metastasis. Current treatment options should be oriented to the patient's current performance, the number of intracranial and extracranial lesions, and related factors. Although surgical resection and whole-brain radiotherapy have been standard treatments for many years, numerous treatment modalities have become more easily available and accepted worldwide, producing more favorable and reliable results. Among these is stereotactic radiosurgery, and the latest clinical trials support this treatment.

In this work, the localization, density, morphology and ultrastructure of secretory structures in aerial organs of Flourensia campestris (FC) and F. oolepis (FO) (Asteraceae) by means of a combination of light, fluorescence, transmission (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were examined. The possible role of secretory structures in the production and secretion of the phytotoxic sesquiterpene (-)-hamanasic acid A ((-)HAA) in both species was also assessed. Capitate glandular trichomes were found in all reproductive organs of FC and FO, and were being reported for the first time. These glandular trichomes, typically associated to edges and veins, were of the same type as those already described for vegetative organs, and were abundant in involucral bracts and corolla of tubulose and ligulate flowers. Their density in reproductive organs of both species was similar (ca. 30/mm2) and lower than that found in leaves (ca. 100/mm2) and stems (ca. 160/mm2 in FC, and up to 650/mm2 in FO). Glandular trichomes in vegetative organs followed a species-specific pattern of distribution. TEM and SEM observations suggest that each species differs in the way in which secretory materials are released to the outside: through cracks or pores in FC, or through a loose cuticle in FO. Similar inspections of the secretory ducts revealed lipophilic vacuoles localized in subepithelial and epithelial cells, in which secretions accumulated before being transferred to the duct. The presence of wall ingrowths in subepithelial cells suggests that granulocrine secretion operates in these species. Secretory ducts varied in density and diameter among the organs in both species, with the combination being maximal in woody stems. (-)HAA was only detected in surface secreted resins of both species, and its concentration (2D-TLC, GC-FID) was intimately associated with the distribution and density of glandular trichomes in each organ (capitula, leaves, and stems with primary or secondary growth).
